i know some of you might hate me if i say this. but probably my favorite RPG was secret of evermore.
now you might say, But mana was so much better. I don't think so, Mana had too much color. when i played mana i always felt like it was appealing to girls or little children, While evermore was more appealing to teenagers (real gamers at that time) the story was a little silly, But if you took it seriously thats your mistake, a good example of this is that the main character quotes movies like the alien from mars, for example, if he is taking the piss out of himself why would you take it seriously? the biggest character in the game is named Tiny for Heck sake. next i want to say the magic (alchemy) system is probably the best magic system i have ever seen in any game, Period. it put so much more to the MP, get a magic stone, or get a spirit to follow you. this had reasons people had magic. the story followed at a nice pace, the game was a little easy, but not too easy. plenty of things to do, items to collect, and spells to acquire. but it doesn't have multiplayer! thats a big problem with the game for most people. First off how many of you actually played secret of mana with a friend? i know i didn't, friends usually don't want to play rpg's together, they usually want to play racing, or fps games, not rpg's face it they are boring with friends. there is no multipolayer but that doesn;t put a damper on the game in my oppinion. but secret of mana had more weapons! yes i know secret of mana had more weapons, but some of them like the whip or lance were close to useless in secret of mana. atleast until you leveled them up. which is difficult if you can;t hit the enemies half the time. the story i think is gloomier than in mana and i also feel like it has a certain omminicence about it that mana is missing. the game was made by an american team to appeal to american gamers, and thats what they did, people always complained it wasn;t a true sequal to mana. of coarse it wasn't, if it were i would say mana instead of evermore. notice, legend of mana, secret of mana 2, sword of mana. get the picture, evermore was nothing in connection other than the battle system if i were you i would go and play through this game again and don't compare it to mana, it is it's own game. play it as it's own game. i'm sure you'll be amazed at how good this game actually is. now you might say, But mana was so much better. I haven't played Secret of Evermore all too much, I just couldn't get into it... It just didn't have the "pull" that secret of mana had to me. But I have to correct you on one thing.
Originally posted by durdadan I have loads of friends that absolutely LOVE to play RPG games with me, we often get 4 persons together and do runtroughs of Tales of Symphonia. (done this at least 3 times) Maybe you just have the wrong kind of friends. :/ Originally posted by durdadan I have loads of friends that absolutely LOVE to play RPG games with me, we often get 4 persons together and do runtroughs of Tales of Symphonia. "JigSaw and myself have come to the conclusion that the reddit site sucks. They're also incredibly rude, very liberal and die hard athiests." THAT sounds like my cue! :3 |

I have played Secret of Evermore. To the end.
It's a great RPG I agree. It's alot darker but also has its own humor. I never thought it was part of the Seiken Densetsu series at all. Never compared it to Mana as far as graphically or storyline. Except maybe to say "it's different to Mana". Nothing else. But of course, I'm a more educated gamer, so... I don't think that Mana was necessarily better or worse, just different. Mana had its style (Anime) while Evermore had its (Comic). The 2 games are completly different so shouldn't be thought of in the same light. On the subject of multiplayer, I hate multiplayer on most games, it's rubbish and is put in most times because the devs are to lazy to make a real game. And multiplayer games are more often too easy in single player mode anyway. Hence why more people like them..... So I don't think it even needs to be talked about. But at least the multiplayer in Mana was more an afterthought to the game itself, rather then a purpose. To sum it all up: I enjoyed both games. I don't know for certain I liked one more or less then the other. I have no idea if Evermore was underrated in USA because I live in Australia, and we have always suffered as far as RPG game releases were concerned. (We never even got Chrono Trigger or Final Fantasy 3 (re: 6) on SNES here) So it is sort of shocking that we Evermore here, but I am glad we did It's a great RPG I agree.
