This topic may have been posted a few times before, but I thought it would be nice to discuss it. Basically, the title says it all. What were some video game enemies that scared you? You may post walkthroughs or pictures of them, but if they're from a Mature or Adults Only game, please don't.

They may be bosses in non horror or kids' games, or bosses from semi-horror games. Just don't mention anything too scary :

Every other person here is going to say Giygas, I just know it. While I don't disagree that he's scary, I don't think he's the scariest boss out there.

The ones that are, in my opinion, some of the most horrifying, are the clan leaders from Soul Reaver. Melchiah first and foremost; he's basically a mass of flesh and bone stitched together, entire human bodies mashed into one clump that consists of a very stretchy face, hands with missing or irregularly shaped digits, and from the waist down is essentially a spine that drags along the ground like a lazy tail as he crawls after you. Zephon is up there as well, being a vaguely arachnid creature, fused into the walls of a cathedral that was originally designed to be a superweapon to use against vampires, that produces eggs, in spite of originally being male. Rahab looks like an angler fish or a dragonfish that crossbred with a blue shark and grew arms.

And in the last Legacy of Kain game, you actually end up fighting Raziel, though you still switch between him and Kain. While you fight Raziel though, when he does one of the special attacks with the Soul Reaver, he looses the most insane, maniacal laughter that sends shivers down my spine.

Leeland : *nods* I agree. The first time I heard of Giygas was from a Youtube video of the 10 most disturbing bosses in non-horror video games, and you'll never guess who was #1 on that list. Afterwards, curiosity led me to look up a walkthrough of the final boss battle of Earthbound with Giygas, and although I didn't watch the whole thing, I was freakishly disturbed at how demented it was. Afterwards I was shaking from head to toe, trying to forget about the thing. The good thing, though, was that the computer's volume wasn't up that high, so I didn't hear the theme of the battle much.

And the description about the clan leaders from Soul Reaver makes me wanna vomit... It's pretty disgusting. Is it a horror game?

I decided to do a list for kicks.

10) Castlevania ... Any Boss in any game. My favourite is the "Grim Reaper". He is too hard. Why?
9) Zelda O.O.T. ... The Dead Hand Mini-Boss. (Check out Peanut Butter Gamers Top Ten list for yourself.)
8) Ninja Gaiden ... Any from the series will do but I am partial to the Boney Dragon in "Black for x-Box". (Like the thing lived for a thousand years, Hidden, some-how.)
7) Tie... Metal Gear Solid and Any Zombie Game ... Any M.G.S. Foe Roster will do but I have a special place for Liquid Snake. He Never dies. No matter what you do to him he keeps coming back.
Same goes for the Zombies.
6) Aliens ... Any alien game will do but I have a thing for the FOX Movies Aliens Queen. She is in many games and I still get a little freaked out seeing her.
5) Resident Evil ... Again Any Boss from Any Game will do. For Me it is Nemisis. Again He can almost take anything you dish out at him. Very well used in that series.
4) Silent Hill ... Any Foe From Any Game will Do. I Favour "Pyramid Head". I do not know if he is a boss but I like the idea of a foe to be a reflection of the protagonist.
3) Predator ... From any game he is in. That monster is the freakiest invention I can imagine.
2) Doom 3 ... All of the monsters are freaky in this game. I Like "Sarge" due to the Shock Value of seeing him. Even after you defeat him you examine him in all his glory. It is nothing for a weak stomach.
1) Metal Gear Solid Again. ... Mantis? No. Raven? No. Vamp? No. The Creeps in Snake Eater? No.

This one goes to "Grey Fox".

This guy escapes death and lives a zombie like existance of being experimented on for years, to hide in waiting, of the perfect ending? The perfect Death?
Nothing could be scarier than this.
Better than the Predator. Better than a Zombie. Better Than a Demon that will not Die.
This one is for the books on creepy.

The developers wanted to give an even more freakier experience with this Ninja by forcing you to drain all your weapons before fighting him in hand to hand.
Check out the link to "Metal Gear Solid Trailer E3 1997".
If that does not give you an idea of what Konami could have done? I shudder to think of what they have in mind next if they really wanted to push the edge of Mature ratings.

Here's a link for fun.

Good Luck To All.
Peace.

P.S. I really do not think it is possible to frighten people anymore. Modern technology and all. Why Ask this question now???

Nice. But what are some freaky bosses from non-horror games BESIDES Giygas?

For some reason, on this subject no-one mentions Andross from Star Fox 64. Here's some pretty gross details about him, but warning, because this is filled with ending spoilers for Star Fox 64:

First of all, you go the easy route from Corneria to Venom I, and after going through swarms of Venomian enemies and going through a temple with a rock golem (which deeply resembles the shrine of a fox god Miyamoto visited which inspired him to make Star Fox), you finally face Andross. Literally. You meet his face. Or, at least, a disembodied head with two floating hands. After you shoot his hands and then his face and eyes, his face muscles fall off to reveal a robot Andross, meaning the one you fought was a decoy. After shooting the robot's head and taking severe damage because it keeps biting you, you finally escape.

Then you take the hard route from Corneria to Venom II, but instead of having to go through those swarms of enemies and stuff, you get to meet Star Wolf again with his Wolfen II's. What fun. Afterwards, you go into a tunnel that, once again, resembles the shrine of the fox god, but it resembles it even more. Then you face his face (lol) once again, same as always, but once you get it to the point where his face falls apart, instead of a robot, his BRAIN shows up. This is his true form. He then shoots out his eyes, which are connected to his brain by electric beams, and you have to shoot his eyes. After you do so, you then have to keep shooting the brain until he finally explodes and brain matter and blood falls all over the place. Fox's dad saves him.

Alright, so some of the gory details didn't actually happen in the game, but you get the idea. Also, when you fight Andross's brain, he get you entangled in his floating brain tentacles, and damages you until you die. Pretty gross, right?

NalaTheLion : While Soul Reaver isn't exactly a horror game, it does have things that are easily described using such tasty words as 'grotesque' or 'vile'. It's more of a puzzle game, but it still has elements that can be pretty scary. For example, in the area where you fight Zephon (the Silenced Cathedral), you have to deal with his offspring, who are a sort of mutated vampire that developed spider-like traits and powers. That they climb all over the walls, which makes it hard a all Hell to see them, and they make this spine-tingling 'clackclackclack' noise as they step, it can really freak you out; I think they turned out a lot scarier than they were intended to be.

If you're okay with just a link to the pictures instead of actually putting them up on here, I'll show you.

There are a few others, but they're not as especially freaky. Although, if you're into Lovecraftian things, the guy who's coaching you through all of this is a being known as the Elder God, who looks kind of like Yog-Sothoth.

I'm fine with posting links to other sites that contain images or walkthroughs, as long as you don't post them on this thread themselves if they are from M or A-O games. And since those spider-vampires seem pretty disgusting, I don't think I'll bother going there. I just watched Lord of the Rings: Return of the King, and the huge spider from the movie grossed me out enough. Good thing I don't have Arachnophobia.

While I wouldn't call them bosses, there's the majority of the ghosts and other creatures in the point-and-click adventure Uninvited. Shadowgate is another especially scary one; Deja Vu, as well as the sequels, are definitely eerie, but they aren't the sort of thing that burns into the back of your head.

I would say one of the more disturbing bosses in a game would have to be the Wall of Flesh in Terraria. You see it and it just keeps coming. You have no choice at that point to fight.

For me it would be between the berserker or the giant worm in the Gears of War franchise.

Mine has to be Bitores Mendez from Resident Evil 4.

I mean just look at this guy! He has menacing bloody claws coming out of his "body", 2 hideous arms with scarier nails than "the world record for longest nails" women. He has a grim face and to top it all of a scorpion tail that hangs out of his head.
seriously, this guys is WEIRD AND DISTURBING

Aaaand it seems like everyone has forgotten someone special. Here's a hint: starts with a G, ends with an S, shows up at the ending of Earthbound... Give up? It's Giygas. Practically everyone puts him/it for #1 on their Most Disturbing Bosses for Non-Horror Games, but much people disagree that he's scary or disturbing. There are many ways to pronounce his/its name, but I pronounce it Gee-Gas. Anyways, I think the boss battle for it is pretty demented because he/it kind of represents r@pe and abortion, and Earthbound is sort of a kids game. And the music is disturbing too, although I barely heard it.

Vizzed.com is very expensive to keep alive! The Ads pay for the servers.

Vizzed has 3 TB worth of games and 1 TB worth of music.  This site is free to use but the ads barely pay for the monthly server fees.  If too many more people use ad block, the site cannot survive.

We prioritize the community over the site profits.  This is why we avoid using annoying (but high paying) ads like most other sites which include popups, obnoxious sounds and animations, malware, and other forms of intrusiveness.  We'll do our part to never resort to these types of ads, please do your part by helping support this site by adding Vizzed.com to your ad blocking whitelist.
