So, remakes get a bad rap, in my opinion. A lot of people seem to assume that all of them are bad, and while I agree that a lot of them don't really have any heart, at least a few are very good, with plenty of decent ones as well.

The 1986 remake of The Fly by David Cronenberg, for instance, is in my top five movies of all time, so it should go without saying that it's my favorite remake, but an honorable mentions go to Cape Fear by Martin Scorsese, The Thing by John Carpenter.

While we're on the subject, though, I think it's worth discussing what
constitutes a "remake". Like, the new True Grit by the Coen brothers is
considered a remake by some, but the brothers say it's a second adaptation of the book that the original was also based on. It was excellent either way, but worth mentioning as an example I think.

I think true grit was a good one whether it was a remake or a different adaptation, but one I really want to see is the remake of total recall looks good and with today's cgi and other special effects I cant wait to see what they did with it.  The omen was pretty good I took my girlfriend to see it when it came out and about 7 years later I asked her if she wanted to watch the original and neither of us could sit through it so the remake was definitely better.  Clash of the Titans was great and I don't think a lot of people realize that it was actually a remake of an old kind of goofy movie I still like the original and all but the remake was just awesome. Dawn of the dead would probably be among my favorite remakes with better guns and way more gore if you haven't seen the original you should watch that and try not to laugh at the acting and kind of crappy effects in it. My all time favorite would be the Thing with Kurt Russell great movie and I never get tired of watching it. Another remake I am pretty excited to see is the evil dead loved the original and love Bruce Campbell.  With all the vampire movies out I think it is kind of hard for anyone to know which movie is an original and which is a remake just my opinion but I avoid vampire movies (especially Twilight) at all costs.

The new Total Recall was just lame. It wasn't laughably bad, just completely uninteresting. It had nothing new to show me. Also, it got me excited by casting Bryan Cranston, and then he showed up for all of about five seconds, which disappointed me even more. Complete waste of time, and I rarely say that about a movie.

I was well aware of Clash of the Titans being a remake, but I wouldn't call the original "goofy"; it had some of Ray Harryhausen's best special effects, and oddly enough, its remake had another of my favorite actors in a disappointing role, though not for lack of screen-time. Liam Neeson, obviously.
