Time out, I gotta feed my fish.
Do you think mini games are getting a bit out of hand?

So. I'm playing Dark Cloud 2 (again) and as I'm battling my way through endless streams of rolling tanks and nasty tornadoes, I keep having to go into the menu to feed my fish. I have done the research on what to feed them to increase certain stats. And every time I get them feed enough, I sit and patiently wait, watching the breeding tank as they get it on and make a new fish.

And it suddenly struck me...what the heck am I doing?

This is one of the two fish-related mini-games in Dark Cloud 2. The other one is catching them and participating in a weighing contest for prizes. And you don't know the hours I've sat, patiently waiting for a nibble on my fishing pole.

So my question is two-fold, actually.

1) What's the weirdest/most bizarre mini-game you've ever found in a game, and

2) Do you think that the mini-games in today's videos are getting a little out of hand? Are they fun, or do you usually skip them?

1# Every single professor Layton briefcase mini-game,
2# If It unlocks something I do want / need / or will use I will try to get it,
But yeah some mini-games are a bit stupid now.

I don't mind mini-games, honestly, as long as they're more related to the actual game than just absurd nonsense, such as that fish one in your example, Nya~.

Most times, I'll actually enjoy doing some of the mini-games or side missions, such as the ones in Sonic Generations. Other times, I'll just do them to gain whatever advantage I can get in the game because of it, despite thinking it's a huge waste of time.

I can't really recall the weirdest one I've played, but then again, I never really have a tendency to play games WITH Side Missions/ Mini Games. There was probably some odd one in one of the Assassin's Creed games, I'm sure.

And I think they're probably getting better nowadays, honestly. It gives a lot more to do in the game, rather than just barreling right through the story then putting it away for ages, only hoping to want to play it again some day, Nya~.

Yeah mini games are getting way out of hand.

60% of all Wii games focus on mini games. Why? I don't know.

I can't really answer number 1... but as for number 2, yeah... there are a few games that have WAY too many mini games. Yeah, mini games are getting out of hand.

not really sure about number one, I cant think of any mini games right now. Number 2, yes, I think mini games are ridiculous lately, they are boring and tedious.

Wierdest mini-game, excluding ones found in games like Mario Party: The egg nursery thing in Sonic Adventure DX (I think that was the name of it), if it counts, since there are actually a few mini-games tucked away in it. If not, then I don't really know.

I'm going to say yes to number two. For example, I love Zelda games, but they seem to like putting mini-games in them. I usually find them boring however, and skip them. In my opinion, mini-games ought to be seperate from the main game. IF they feel the need to make them playable in the main game, they should offer no reward except perhaps a cheats menu. That way, the player doesn't lose anything if they choose not to play them. Mini-games are great, when, and only when, I want to play mini games (which isn't that often).
