There were many arcade games released in the early 80s. Some of them were revolutionary and fun, others were boring clones. Qix stands out because of its unique and original gameplay. Your goal is to fill up as much of the square as possible. There are enemies that try to stop you and you have to avoid them. Qix got ported onto the NES pretty late. It got ported in 1990. Most NES arcade ports are pretty good except for Q-bert. Qix falls in the middle, because some how I just don't find the game fun and enjoyable.

GAMEPLAY C: Qixes gameplay is fairly enjoyable. You have to fill up the square as much as possible without getting hit by the qix which is a unpredictable line that moves all over the screen. I found that to be a little annoying. It would be better if you can at least have a slight clue to where that thing is going. To make things worse, as you go on, there are even more unavoidable enemies. The game is still fairly fun. I like how you have to take chances and you have to use strategy to get the square filled in as much as possible. Other people might have enjoyed Qix, but I some how just didn't care for it.

GRAPHICS B+: This game was 9 years old when it got ported onto the NES. So I'm not going to criticize the graphics to much. I am going to praise how accurate this game looks to the arcade. There's even a few enhancements. When you mark territory on the square. A colorful and unique design is displayed inside, how neat. I also noticed that the colors are a bit more vibrant. While the graphics might have not pushed the NES very much. Its good to know that the developers at least tried to make look better.

SOUND A-: The thing that truly shines in this game is the music. The song in the beginning is a great start. I actually looked forward to starting the game. Just because of that one song. There's not much in terms of sound effects, but the music in this game is incredible.

ADDICTIVENESS D+: I usually think of arcade games as very addicting and fun games. This game is fairly addicting, but I just did not want to play this game for very long. It might be enjoyable to some, but Qix on the NES is not the most addicting arcade port out there. Play something else if you want to be playing for a while.

DEPTH B+: Its hard to rate this section for arcade games, because they usually just go on, and on, and on. There is some variety in this game though. There are more enemies as you play through, and you have to fill up more of the square as you go on. Not bad for an arcade game.

DIFFICULTY HARD: Most of the game is pretty difficult. There are a lot of hard to miss hits. I really don't have much to say for this section.
