This thread is all about Prize Fighter for Sega CD. I waited to play this game for twenty years it was well worth the wait. As a Boxing journalist and historian who has played many of the Boxing games to come out over the last thirty years I love this game specifically the real nature of the game that is presenting in cinematic form from a first person account. In that respect I feel this game was and still is way ahead of it’s time and I wonder given the advances in technology with the new generation consoles and with the wide popularity of EA Sports’ Fight Night series why we have yet to see an updated version of this game or even a re-release for the newer generation consoles. For those who haven’t played this yet I highly recommend checking it out.

If you like Punch Out! Or Legends of the ring you will like the first person account of this game. In terms of game play the action is actually very realistic in relation to Boxing and was probably the first game to feature aspects of head movement and timing in order to box effectively. The game also features several cut scenes throughout which really resembles the authentic Boxing atmosphere for those who have ever been to a fight card in person, even features heckling fans and such. It was also the first and only game to my knowledge to feature both Michael Buffer’s voice and actual person in the game as he is featured playing the ring announcer for the game.

Highly recommend checking this one out.

What are your impressions of the game and it’s game play?
