I loved the Sega cd in fact I still have it and many of the games on it. I loved the live action ones but it also has some really great rpg's and the third world war is one of the best strategy games of all time. So I started this thread to get other opinions was this something that you had and thought was awesome or did you hate it. Also why do you think it crashed? I think there are a lot of reasons behind it failing being new in the market people really didn't know what to think of cd's. Also it is true that not being able to save a game unless you bought a special cartridge was a bummer, even more so than it was hard to find and didn't come out for several months. I think that with all the companies out there not familiar with what could have been done with the Sega cd many stayed away and that cost the console its life in the end. However the last laugh I suppose goes to them since now CD is the format that is standard but anyway lets hear what you all have to say.

I didn't care for the Sega CD, it was just way ahead of it's time, like to a point where I think they didn't develop games for it as good as they could have if they waited a few more years when technology was better. It was a good try though and definitely unique for its time period. I kind of wish Sega was still around making consoles, would love to see them as Nintendos top rival like the good ole days.

Ya I loved all of the Sega systems.I never knew exactly why the Saturn didn't do well it has some great games and the technology was the equivalent to the other systems out at the time. It would be nice for more competition in the video game to help promote dropping prices and better research and development

I thought it was a great concept and system but the games were lame for the most part. I owned a few and some were great and I can't wait to play them on here. Those include Dark Wizard and Third World War, and the Prince of Persia game was fun too. Unfortunately a lot have too many video cut scenes that sucked, Tomcat Alley is the best example, and one of the worst games I've ever played.

The system was pretty good... I wouldn't say it was ahead of it's time, though.

It's kinda sad that it didn't had many good games. If it weren't because of that... It would have been more popular.

To say that the Sega CD was ahead of its time may be an exaggeration, but it definitely was a good system regardless of whether it was short-lived or not(even if it is remembered mostly because of Sonic CD, which I feel is a bit overrated, but I'll probably make a thread on the another time).

Knuckles Chaotix and Sonic CD showed the system had potential, but the rest of the games were god-awful. It may be the only system in my opinion that had a mere 2 good games. It capabilities were cool, but Sega was all over the place at the time.

I think that the Sega CD was just a big pile of beep because it was just an accessory for the Sega Genesis/Megadrive which allowed you to play Games via CDs and the only good things about it were the Graphics and the only good Game for it was Sonic CD.

I didn't really like Sonic CD that much. I found it to be more confusing and I did not really like the soundtrack. Sonic 3 and Knuckles was way better though.

Hmm..very good question. I think it was decent technology to be able to play videos, but it was way too gimmicky and the acting sucks. But because of this it's hilarious to watch these overdone, cheesy cutscenes. But really the graphics during the gameplay still were mostly the same and it wasn't really anything special. And unfortunately the Sega CD had very few good games to speak of (SONIC CD). So I'll go with neither. It sucks in a funny way which makes it cool.

The Sega CD was released during a time were a bunch of companies made CD based consoles. So no the Sega CD was not quite ahead of its time.

I still like it, it has some great games on it, and even a few decent FMV games.

TrollStoneProduction : Kunckles Chaotix was realesed for the 32X, another obscure add-on for the Genesis.
Soo..that means Sonic CD must have been the only good game for the Sega CD....sigh

I agree with what some of you have said.

I think the system itself was a bit ahead of its time.  However, Sega as a company was a little preoccupied with too much stuff to focus on really showing off what the system was capable of.
