Make sure they're not wearing an engagement ring, first off. Secondly just talk to them casually. If they have a boyfriend, she might mention him. Also you probably shouldn't pursue someone you haven't even chatted with. It's just awkward for everyone involved.

Agree with most of KG says. Just try to engage in conversation and if she mentions her boyfriend or husband then you know. Worse case senerio, she ignores you not the end of the world. Do you have a class the same as her?

This is a lay-up.  You ask.  Say hello, introduce yourself, tell her she looks like a nice person and you want to get to know her more.  Ask her if she wanted to (actual activity) at (specific time) on (day of the week).  The biggest mistake is saying, "Wanna hang out some time?"

Say this.  "Hi, my name's Mike.  You look really nice and I want to get to know you.  Would you like to go bowling with me around 7.30 on Thursday at Colonial Lanes?  I think it'd be fun."

I can tell you the worst place to engage in conversation would be at a bar. Although you can't stalk her and wait for a moment to approach her. You have to make it casual, like talking to her after class if you have one together.
