Hello so this is my first proper thread on a game review so i picked the simplest game i could think of to try and ease myself into this sub forum, I'll try and keep the waffle to a minimum while including a lot of in-depth analysation as possible so here goes.
Firstly a description, you are essentially a random person who crashes through a wall of a top secret facility lab where at the entrance you steal a jetpack. From here You simply use the one tap system to navigate your way through and endless map of lasers, coins and tokens until you die, get bored, reach a new high score or complete your assigned missions.
Features: (probable spoilers)
storyline
Well contrary to popular belief there is actually a storyline to this game, although nowhere in the game will you find this storyline a few web searches will probably get you to the video behind Jet Pack Joyride. (Sorry I can't link it, I'm only a newbie; not allowed) Anyway you are a working man stuck in an office all day who one day catches wind of a Jetpack experiment conducted in a lab. You then decide to change your fate and break into the facility to live your dreams and so begins your endless quest to reach the end of the never ending map.
Levels
While there are not any levels in the game the map is split into sectors, as you go through each sector your speed increases and the obstacles become gradually harder and harder. In a way towards what you find is the end is a series of near impossible obstacles to which will make you eventually just give up and try again. There are however levels your character can reach after completing specific missions which I will go into later.
Incentives
The game cleverly uses a good old shop for you to buy new jetpacks, new clothes and utilities so you have something to aim for in your journeys as a Jetpack Joyrider. Also to make sure your not simply Jet packing for that sole reason, you are actually giving specific missions to carry out for example 'collect 3 tokens in one game' or 'high five 80 scientists' on completing these your earn stars which of course level you up. Once you reach a certain number of levels you can then prestige endlessly until your level a billion if you want to be, (so far I'm 120).
Obstacles and coins
Missiles, yellow stationary tasers, orange spiralling tasers, spontaneous red lasers, as for coins we have ... coins and tokens. On death you can then have a go on a one armed bandit using the tokens you have collected to gain utilities or you guessed it.. More coins. All in all standard set up but above average appearances or aesthetic value in the way they presented this feature.
Music
Well being an Ipod game you can already tell companies didn't set out to make it feel like an epic skyrim game full of barbarian choir singings on the title screen so instead repetitive whimsical music is played exactly what you would expect from such a game.
Graphics
Once again it's an Ipod game so graphics are 2d but still brilliant for what they were aiming for, a casual, whimsical game to play on the bus or train or whenever your bored, the definition of most games aims.
Price
Well given that its one of my favorite games on the iphone as well as over 20,000 others who have rated it just below 5 out of 5 stars with a further FEW million who have downloaded the game. It may be mainstream but lets be honest when has that ever stopped anyone its a great game and I give it a solid 5/5 and with the price being .... FREE (for a limited time, then going to 0.69p) its a game well worth getting if you own an Iphone.
Thank you for your time
