It is more of a competition oriented game.

It's more of a hobby than a sport too.

However, some argue it's a mental challenge, which I guess would make solving rubix cubes a sport too.

I'm pretty much re-iterating what has been said, but I will state my opinion.

It isn't exactly a sport, rather a mental exercise. Its a good recreational hobby, and takes more brains and natural born talent than any 'sports'. I love to play chess, it keeps you sharp. It just isn't a sport as much as it is a competition. That reminds me...
