In my opinion, when they started to try giving all the characters more personality, that's when things got pretty pointless and sometimes annoying. (The points after Sonic Adventure 2)Sonic for becoming the stereotypical hero with a big ego.Tails for becoming the sidekick that ends up only getting speaking roles and just hanging around the hero.Knuckles for just... being...so... naive. And idiotic at some points. I mean, sure he lived on an island and that would have sheltered him from a lot of world knowledge, but if he was so cunning to put traps all over the island, he SHOULD have some chance to prove that he can be as sly as everyone would think.Amy was all around cute in her debut, funny in Adventure and Adventure 2, but after that, she just got a bit annoying to watch chasing Sonic around. Sonic Team had somewhat of a better initiative of trying to make her mature in Sonic Chronicles by her saying she has a new boyfriend, Dex, but who's to say she's lying? She should show a little bit more maturity if she's "chasing" Sonic. Be a little bit more laid back and somewhat flirty, but not to where it's annoying or distracting. Everyone here would know where the limit is.
Eggman- ugh. I wish he was Robotnik again. I really do. He was way more cunning back then but now when given the name "Eggman" he even started calling HIMSELF Eggman. It was funny back in Adventure, but... Really and truly, he should have been a lot better like he was. Instead, they decided to make it canon by showing in Generations that he WILL call himself that in the future.
Big wasn't too much of a big (not used as a pun) deal for me. He's just one of the slow-witted characters that was around. Granted the "Froggy" thing was a little annoying. Chronicles was the only amusing thing for it. He wasn't in many games to really make such a statement against him. Although, I don't think many did like the Sega Bass fishing in Sonic Adventure because of him.
Rouge was a lot better in her debut, but it's really starting to seem more like fanservice at this point. A little TOO flirty for my tastes. She's not enough of what she was back then. Even if she was only made to match up with Knuckles. Otherwise, the character's ok. I won't say much on the voice since they changed her actress to someone that can actually make her sound more or less around her age. (I really do prefer the very first though, but they changed it. Pity.)
Shadow... is...too pessimistic. I mean honestly. There is so much a person can take in one game. His debut was fine, In Sonic Heroes the mystery of him being alive or not is enough to have you on the edge of your seat. Onward was... blech. In his own game, he... honestly should have had a bit of a change in attitude. You know, to show SOME development. But it's still the same. Too focused on the negative that it can be a bit of a pain just to hear him complain. His voice was annoyingly whispery from his very first debut, but that changed later on. (And this VA just happened to be my favorite from another game, how lucky is that?~)
Cream, eh. I don't really see what's the problem with her. She was in only a few games, her debut, and then from there... Advance 3, Sonic Battle, Rush, Heroes, Chronicles, and Shadow the Hedgehog, where she actually played some sort of role in the game's entirety. Otherwise, she was just another side character. You don't see much development in her from where she started but the only thing I found annoying was the voice being a tad bit too high pitched. They corrected it in the later games though, so not much of a problem anymore. She should have a better role than just being there, or... there'd just be no point in her. (Am I a bit biased because I think she's cutest in the series?)
Blaze isn't too much of a problem for me, being that she hasn't had much development on her from her debut. In '06 however, she shouldn't be the person to always say to her partner Silver how naive he was. A running gag like that was a tad bit annoying in my opinion. It made her look a little too...naggy/motherly? Well, I'm not sure quite how to explain it for her, but it was a bit out of her character with how she put it.
Silver was ok in his debut, but unfortunately they took the naive portion a bit too far for him. It gets in the way of character development and unfortunately, he's not much of a favorite because of it. Could do much better.
The chao that they had was just adorable, I don't see a problem with it at all. In fact, I say they should return them in any future adventure games. For now, I'll stick to the cute little rascals on Adventure and Adventure 2.
Lastly. Omochao.... I don't like it. I don't hate it. I don't love it. I just dislike its use and its voice. People could figure out a game by either actions using trial and error, or just plain going near some type of hint pad for a clue. You don't need to go overboard with a chao robot. We can figure a few things out ourselves. And it ain't that cute. (Thank goodness for the off switch in Generations)
So, that's my analysis on all the characters. There's truly no "most annoying" in my book. Just developmental issues that can be focused on in the next game. And I wouldn't blame it entirely on the character's behalf if there was a good excuse in backstory for them.
