Left 4 Dead 2 is a game for the Xbox 360 released by Valve.  It is a sequel to the ever-popular Left 4 Dead.  The game is a zombie survival first person shooter with a twist, and can be played either single player or cooperatively with friends.  This game is like the Left 4 Dead we all love and remember, but with some new features.
The first change the player notices is the new cast of characters in the game.  Rather than Zoey, Bill, Francis, and Louis, the characters in this game are Rochelle (a female television reporter), Coach (a high school athletics coach, as the name implies), Nick (a con man), and Ellis (a laid-back Southern man).  Some people debate as to whether or not the new characters are as good or better than the four original characters, but I believe the new cast is a refreshing change of pace from the original game: having the same four characters in every game would get very repetitive.
One of the next things players will notice is the fact that there are melee weapons in Left 4 Dead 2.  The melee weapons are my favorite addition to the new game, and I carry one with me in every game I play.  The player must discard their pistol to carry a melee weapon, but in my opinion it is very much worth it.  There are several melee weapons in the game, including an electric guitar, katana, machete, crowbar, cricket bat, and chainsaw.  There are some achievements related to the melee weapons, such as Club Dead (use every melee weapon to kill a common infected), Chain of Command (kill 100 common infected with a chainsaw), and my favorite, Head Honcho (decapitate 200 infected with a melee weapon).  These achievements encourage players to experience the new melee weapons and to use them effectively to decapitate infected, and I think these are fun achievements to obtain.
Another new feature in Left 4 Dead 2 is the new special infected: the charger, spitter, and jockey.  The charger is a super-fast and strong infected which can charge in a straight line at enemies and slam an enemy against the ground repetitively if a survivor is caught at the end of a charge.  The spitter is able to spit acid at survivors which damages them if they come in contact with the acid.  The jockey is able to pounce on survivors and if a jockey successfully pounces on an enemy, it claws at the survivor’s head and can direct them in any direction.  There are some achievements based on the new survivors, such as A Ride Denied (kill a jockey within 2 seconds of it jumping on a survivor), Acid Reflex (kill a spitter before she is able to spit), and Scattering Ram (as the charger, bowl through the entire enemy team in a single charge).  These achievements not only encourage people to play the game in single player to try to obtain the “kill infected”-style achievements, but to also play the game in multiplayer so they may try for the “play as infected”-style achievements.
The levels are based on a linear story based in the southern United States, specifically in Louisiana and Georgia.  Each of the levels has a different environment and a different “uncommon” type of infected that are in each level.  The first uncommon infected that players will encounter is an infected CEDA agent, which basically looks like a common infected in a hazmat suit.  They have a chance to drop a bile bomb grenade when they are killed.  Another uncommon infected which very rarely spawns is Jimmy Gibbs Jr.  He is known as a famous stock car driver in the Left 4 Dead 2 universe, and Ellis is heard talking about him throughout the mall level.  The characters steal Jimmy Gibbs Jr.’s car to escape the zombie-filled mall.  Probably the funniest uncommon infected is the clown, which can be seen at the carnival.  The clown is unique in that it is able to lead “packs” of common infected to attack the survivors.  The clown is the subject of my favorite achievement in the entire game: Cl0wnd (Honk the noses of 10 clowns).A clown’s nose is “honked” by hitting it with a melee attack, and a very satisfying “honk” noise can be heard.  Swampy mud men are another type of uncommon infected in the game; they can be seen in the swamp, and usually stay in the water, where they are able to move faster than other infected or the survivors.  Some uncommon infected are policemen in riot suits.  These are the most difficult to defeat in that they are wearing Kevlar (a.k.a. bullet-proof armor) so they must be attacked from behind, which can be fairly difficult if attempting to face one alone.  Hitting a riot suit uncommon infected with a melee attack does no damage to them but can knock them down, making this one possibility of getting behind them to kill them.
In addition to the melee weapons, new survivors, and new infected, there are also more new weapons in Left 4 Dead 2.  One of the most notable is the boomer bile grenade, which is exactly as it sounds: a grenade filled with boomer bile, which can be used to guide common infected.  These are fun to use on either tanks or witches, and then watch as every nearby common infected attack them without question.  There are new guns in Left 4 Dead 2: new styles of rifle, pistol, and even a grenade launcher.  The grenade launcher is fun to use to clear out large groups of zombies, but shouldn’t be used in close quarters as it can cause damage to the player or the player’s teammates.  There are also two types of special ammunition in the game: explosive and incendiary.  These are exactly as they sound: the explosive ammunition explodes upon impact with an enemy, and the incendiary lights the enemy on fire.
All in all, this is a very fun game and is definitely worth picking up.  It is about a year old now and can probably be found rather cheap.  There are several new features in the game, such as the new melee weapons, guns, and infected.  If you are into a fun zombie survival first person shooter game, then this game may be for you.

Graphics:8/10
The graphics in this game suffer slightly in comparison to the first game in my opinion, but they are still very good.

Gameplay:9/10
Very simple: Get to the safe house, and do whatever must be done to survive and do so.

Sound:8/10
The sounds in this game are good: each special infected has their own sound effect, so the survivors know when they are about to battle each type of infected.  Also the voice acting was done well, and I find myself laughing almost every time Ellis tells a story or comments on an action occurring in the game.

Replayability:8/10
There aren’t a lot of levels in this game, but they are each fun in their own right, with different environments and uncommon infected in each.

Achievements: 9/10
The achievements in this game are really fun.  From decapitating 200 zombies with melee weapons, to honking the noses of 10 clowns, to bowling over every survivor with a single charge while playing as a charger, these achievements were definitely fun to achieve.

Overall:8.5/10

Great review, but using the scroll bar was a major pain.
But still, I'd be more inclined to buy the game after reading this.
