So I've been wanting to get an e-reader. Specifically the Kindle for a while now. and I was wondering if I could get some opinions before I bought it.

I like E-readers because they save trees, and they're way more lightweight than carrying 5 books or more. The only downside to E-readers is you have to purchase all your books. you cant just check them out from the library. Though I think you can on the Nook. I'm not really sure.

The main reason I want to get a Kindle rather than a Nook or something else is because I already have an Amazon library established from the Kindle app on my iPod. Main reason I'm not sticking with my iPod is that it hurts my eyes after a while and it doesn't have the battery life to sustain my long book reading times. I like to read for hours at a time.

So thats my opinion. Whats yours?

Have not used the nook, but I would think the nook color would have similar problems to the iPod and iPad due to it's LCD screen. The Kindle on the other hand doesn't use LCDs, it's like reading a book and with it's wirelss off you can have the thing run for nearly a month on a single charge. I just let mine go to sleep, pretty much never turn it off.

You may outta consider getting the 3G version, if you plan to just read at home the Wi-fi only is fine, but if you plan to take it elsewhere and want to get books on the fly 3G version is what you want.

E-readers are pretty amazing, there doesn't seem to be a lot of problems with them. I don't have a Kindle, but I did get the chance to try it out and it's a very pleasing experience. When you read it, the text is very soft, almost like you're reading straight from a book. the fact that the reader is all you need to carry means no need to lug books around, get them lost, or dog-ear pages so you can find where you are.
