Obviously, my vote goes to Final Fantasy 7 for most overrated. I mean I loooved the game and it is pretty awesome, but all the crazy Sephiroth, Cloud, Zack, and Vincent fan girls made this game waaaaay overrated.

As for the most underrated, I'll have to go with Final Fantasy 9. Seriously, the game was great. The story is memorable, the characters are all likeable, and the overall game play is pretty awesome. True the re-play value isn't great, but it's still an awesome game. I'd say what gave this game such a low rating is FF10. People were so psyched when they heard that the PS2 was going to be coming out that they ignored FF9 and waited for FF10 since it was going to be for the new system. But in my opinion, FF9 kicks the crap outa FF10.

I agree with you. FFVII was really overrated. I think because it was the first one on Playstation, most of those people never experienced FF before.

I still think FFVI is underrated. It's such a great game, story, soundtrack, and everything that I can't believe how little it is talked about and respected. If I had a choice between every other FF game or FFVI, I'd go with FFVI. When you have the best, you forget the rest.

Anyways, I feel that 7 is waaay overrated, like you said. I think that 2 and 5 are way underrated, both are really good in my opinion.

It's obvious that VII is the one that is most overrated. I liked the game and all but it just as great as a lot of people believe.

I'm not sure which one I'd label as most underrated since I don't care too much for what other people say about games and tend not to pay attention to them.

Yeah. Most people disagree with me about 9 being better than 10. I don't know, the people in FF10 just seemed so generic and typical compared to the people in FF9. Of all of the main characters in FF10 onhly one was a species other than human. In FF9, four of the main characters (Zidane, Quina, Vivi, and Freya) are not human. Plus the four inhuman characters are very uniquely made. I also thought the story line was a lot more elaborate and interesting. But that's just me.

VII is heavily overrated, not to say it's a bad game but yeah, many people obsess over it to a point that it really takes some of the enjoyment out.. I'd say any game before VII and X by itself isn't as loved as it should, although X not so much.

X is my favorite because it was the first one I actually played, so I took more time in getting into the characters and everything...they aren't really generic, they just aren't as visually diverse as they are in IX

I think it goes without saying that VII is overrated. The game was fun and all, but it really didn't deserve that much credit.
Though FFVI doesn't really get as much attention because of VII, I wouldn't say it's underrated. It's got a large fan following too(rivaling that of VII). So, out of all the games I've played, I'd have to say V is definitely very underrated. The game was lots of fun and the Job system was incredible, though the story was a bit dry compared to some before and after it.
But really, V doesn't get enough credit. It was the last game Sakaguchi directed until now with the Last Story. Plus, the soundtrack's pretty awesome too, and the difficulty is pretty high compared to most of the newer games.

I consider Final Fantasy VII to be overrated beyond words. I'll just make an English word up for it. Metallica Album 7 is what it is like. Metallica is overrated beyond words. Final Fantasy VII is overrated beyond words.

Final Fantasy V would be the most underrated. It is hardly ever mentioned, and no one ever cares about it. It's a fun game. Screw storylines that get tons of games made just to make more sense of things, V had good gameplay. It also had a character named Butz, so...

Final Fantasy VII is just......completely overrated. It's not a bad game, but it doesn't deserve the praise it gets.

Underrated would be Final Fantasy VI. Just about everything that is FFVI is good, but it falls in the shadow of FFVII. Oh well

I can understand why you love it, but just curious. I'd like an explanation on why it deserves all the praise, and also your opinion on why it isn't overrated.
