Sometimes I hear people talk about a "Red Ring of Death" for Xbox. So wat is it?

It's "three red lights on the Xbox 360's ring indicator representing a "General Error requiring service of the Console or Power Adapter," nicknamed the "Red Ring of Death", "Red Ring of Fire" or "Red Lights of Death" - according to Wikipedia.

After that, well, you'll most likely need a new one. I'd rather have a PS3 but whatever floats your boat. Oh, and I have heard that this was much more prevalent in the older models than the newer ones. The Slim version, however, has a Red Dot instead that alerts you that it will shut off to avoid damage.

The reason that XBOX 360's suck.

Its a little light that tell you you should have got a PS3.

It is there to remind you that Microsoft cut corners to maximise profit.

It basically means that either there's a power failure in the 360 or it's overheated. One of the many reasons why I don't use my 360 a lot.

Should have got the PS3 man. It does cooler things. Also, I'm not a big fan of all of the mindless 360 games (move, shoot, kill, die, repeat).

I agree with the above. My friend got the RROD yesterday while we were playin Left 4 Dead 2 it was hilarious.

Microsoft did maximise profits by using cheap solder that melts at a low temperature and cheap cooling gel that was only heat resistant up to 35 degrees which causes the hardware failure's.

Why mention Halo Microsoft may be making millions but it is only Microsoft's concept Bungie are the real winners they get a bigger profit share because they programmed and come up with the story as Microsoft's original story boards did not make sense.

Microsoft do look like the owners but on the legal side of things they are not the sole owners, the only game Microsoft have sole ownership over is Gears of War and one or two others.

Im sure its a general failure or its overheated.

Yeah My PS3 has what is known as the Yellow light of death… I’m taking it in to a service shop tomorrow to get it repaired. I hope this is a one time thing because I really don’t want to end up sending my PS3 to Sony or worse buying a non-backwards compatible PS Slim model…

I haven’t been able to access my PS3 since May because I couldn’t afford to get it serviced at the time so needless to say I will be looking forward to getting back on it and picking up where my game data was before it went down.


You would think considering how much both Xbox and PS3 costs that they’d be able to avoid problems like that… It’s just the opinion of a somewhat disgruntled consumer but I feel at $600 a pop (At the time of original release) there should be no hardware malfunction like that from inside the console.

I am just happy that it has nothing to do with the actual system so my system should be as it was (Knock on wood) after the parts are replaced.
