Both I guess. If I need to press a button, I will. If I need to touch the screen, I will. If I don't need to touch the screen, I won't.

Surgiac : yes i have exactly the same problem.spirit tracks should have been a bit more button orientated yet during early development if there was a sequel on DS many people did complain about the controls but hopefully when th 3DS comes out with the remake of Oot they will make it 50% button and 50%touch gameplay.

BUTTONS! Always where possible, buttons.
There are very few games I like that only use the touch screen.
And alot of the time it's BECAUSE they use the touch screen that I dont like them.
Phantom Hourglass, Spirit Tracks, both good games but with touch screen controls they fail.
The exception to the touch screen rule is mystery type games.
Professor Layton is an example of one of the few GOOD touch screen games.

DarkHyren : yes those were games that didn't frustrate me even with the whole touch gameplay.even the puzzles were WAY better with touch.i don't think any puzzles on those games wouldn't be any good at all with buttons implemented.

Whenever possible I use the buttons. For one I don't like the idea of possibly scratching up my screen with the stylus (and i suck at putting screen protectors on). also I just don't see the need for it, sure its nice if done right (like being able to do menu or inventory stuff on it would be useful) but it seems like some games use it just to use it.

I use them both. Depending on the game I am playing. If I am playing something like a Mario game then I will use the buttons but other games I like to use the touch screen.

I use both. I generally go with the buttons but if I need to use the touch screen, then I use it. Otherwise I use the buttons.
