~Metroid~
Metroid for the Nintendo Entertainment System, ahh. Even though I am only 13 I remember how hard this game was to beat on my NES when I was 4. The Metroid series contains gameplay elements from shooter, platformer, and adventure games. This game is the first one to ever be made but not the first in the story line. The reason this game was so cool to me was because of one thing. You play as a female protagonist. You play as a female bounty hunter, Samus Aran who was sent down to the planet Zebes to eradicate the " Metroid " so the Space Pirates can not use them for galactic domination. An original storyline in my eyes. Also during your journey you have to destroy The Mother Brain, as well as its guardians Kraid and Ridley.

Before we get into all the sweetness, lets attack the game for a while! While playing this game make sure to have a mental map because there is none for you to use, and believe me. The planet Zebes is HUGE! Also, you can't duck to shoot, and half the enemies don't go up past your knees. This problem becomes resolved later in the game when you get more items but for a while, this can be annoying. The music is great, but sadly, the designers decided, "hey lets make Samus's footsteps audible! ". Bad idea. Also the jump controls are slightly broken, but you get used to them later. Sometimes, when you are going through doors there are enemies on the other side that you can not dodge! Finally, when getting hit by enemies, man does Samus get recoil, forcing you to fall into a pit of lava. That is all that I honestly didn't like.

Okay, time to talk about what ROCKS about this game. First of all, it started it all. If this didn't exist, no Super Metroid *GASP!*. I know, I know. Insain. While going through this game, you will see tons of enemies, all that are equally epic. Epic or annoying, either one. When exploring you can find missiles to blast your enemies or open doors. There are a total of 255 missiles total! Have fun trying to find them all! I love the password system! Great way to come back where you left off. Really, what I loved about this game is all the power ups. They PWN NOOB! Here is a list of my favorites.

Ice Beam - When you shoot an enemy with this, the get frozen solid! You can use them as stepping stools to reach higher areas.

Wave Beam - A gun that lets you shoot three squares high, It shoots a wave like beam that can hit enemies on the ground.

Maru Mari - This is an item that lets Samus morph into a ball! How cool is that!

Screw Attack - This item changes the gameplay, instead of trying to avoid enemies, you try to jump into them! INSTANT KILL!

Those are just a few of my favorites, there are tons more but I don't want to spoil them all. Honestly, I think everyone should try this game, just to explore. I give this game an 8/10 because it lead to much better Metroid games. Here is a bonus for reading my review. Three passwords!

I grew up playing Metroid for the NES, I think I was 5 years old when I got into it and I was probably better at the game when I was 5 than I am now lol.

Honestly, I couldn't have beaten that game without using a map XD
