Members of the Vizzed Board I have a serious question to ask you today, why does Xbox still need batteries for controllers? Better yet WHY DO PEOPLE DEFEND THIS!? I was having a conversation about how stupid it is Xbox still needs batteries for controllers and so I googled if there was an actual reason where Microsoft apparently says it's to give players freedom???? Freedom to what buy more batteries? Nintendo did it for one generation and realized wait no this is stupid and we've not been forced to buy double As for Nintendo controllers since. I don't even think the Xbox controllers are more advanced than the others console controllers look at the PS5 controller it has the touchpad, adaptive triggers, motion controls, built in speaker.... I just don't understand why it's like that and you know I looked it up expecting Xbox fans on sites to at least be disappointed like "man that kind of sucks but we'll take it" or something but no people were defending it??????? If it was truly about player choice why can't you just charge it when it doesn't have batteries and then switch to using batteries if you want to? That'd be choice and yes I know you can plug a controller in with a cord but that's not a charge that's just a work around where you have to own a cord long enough for that to work.

Edit tell me how I only start having internet issues after I start criticizing the Xbox? Microsoft is out to silence me!

You are so close to asking the right question: "WHY DO PEOPLE STILL BUY XBOX WHEN PLAY STATION AND PC EXISTS"

And yeah, it's not because their controllers are "more advance". The switch pro controller is very high tech too, and it has a charge life of 40 hours, which is great.

Well, I think that it's stupid, but, if you have rechargeable batteries, then it's no problem, also the Switch Controllers, you can't use them when they die, you have to wait for them to charge, unlike the Xbox Controllers, and the PS5, the built in speaker is dumb, if you're talking to someone, there is going to be Echo, and you'll be able to hear everything in the house.

Look as an avid PC and Xbox gamer I can assure you why, money. They have the technology to do it, Microsoft. Heck, I have an elite series 2 controller as a gift and it doesn’t need batteries, which makes me wonder why the other basic controllers use batteries. Cut costs down? Pffft PlayStation controllers are the same price and have more functions than the Xbox. Definitely not for the legacy or the feel of the controller. The elite controller is nice though not gonna lie but still lacks the functionality that the PS5 possess. I stand by my reasoning of money being the answer.

I can remember when battery remote controls were just becoming a thing. One of the marketing things was freedom from long cable controllers that had to be plugged into the system. Also, freedom from having to use a wired PC controller. That was a huge marketing scheme. You are correct Nintendo also tried this.

While it sounded good on paper. The battery controllers were often battery hogs. If players played games for several hours a day the batteries would not last. Some companies started to use rechargeable batteries or blue tooth controllers instead. That is what Nintendo did, I don't know if they still do that or not.

If Xbox is still using battery controls my theory is they have a contract with a battery company. Here is where I'm going with this. Xbox markets the battery controllers as freedom from cables. However, due to the batteries not lasting the battery maker gets money as people have to buy batteries. Likewise due to a revenue sharing contract with the battery makers Microsoft gets more money.

It is absolute nonsense. With the great advances in technology and the futuristic take gaming is taking, still needing double As for their controllers is simply absurd.

True is that modern controllers need plugs to charge, but the standard ones given with it are more than enough. It's not the same, I'm the first one to admit it, but the fact batteries do allow for true wireless gaming at all times can't be justified with the use of this ancient technology. And if we get even more picky, there's the thing about recycling those double As which is another big reason most of the world is changing towards built-in batteries.

Knowing how the world works, the only reason they do this is because it's more profitable for them. Not sure if it's because lesser costs or a contract with battery makers, like others have said before me, but unless Xbox saw a true benefit to do something everyone else doesn't they wouldn't have gone ahead with it. And I highly doubt said benefit isn't monetary, I don't see this helping sales in the slightest or giving them an edge over the other console makers.

Why Does nobody like Xbox Controllers!?!? You can hook them up to anything you want! PC, Tablet, Maybe phone I haven't tried that yet. Also, PS5 Controllers feel horrible, your hands will fall off your arms cause of how bad they feel, why would you want PS5?! And how is Xbox bad!?

[EDIT] I'm gonna make an Elimination thread for Controllers, I have to.

Dauntez : The Xbox controller is a little better than Play Station, I’ll give it that much. But, the switch pro controller is a lot like the Xbox one, but slightly better. Has better battery life and it’s less, “curved” if you know what I mean. I don’t have big hands, and I think that’s why I don’t love the Xbox ones as much. But the batteries make it a clear looser overall.
