My first review in more than 2 months. Sable's Grimoire is another visual novel, like Legends of Talia: Arcadia, it's a visual novel published by Gamuzumi, at least the console versions are published by that company...Legends of Talia: Arcadia is not a visual novel I recommend getting, not anymore at least, and that's because it's developed by Winged Cloud, I don't support the idea of buying games developed by Winged Cloud, so, forget about my review of Legends of Talia: Arcadia. Anyway, I won't get more off-topic, I have a lot to say about the Nintendo Switch version of Sable's Grimoire, so...let's begin!

Story: The story is about Sable Labyr becoming a student in the famous academy Amadronia Academy (or just Amadronia), described by Sable as ''a place of learning and discovery'' and where ''anyone who wields magic power, great or small, may become a student here''. Sable is an aspiring magic researcher or scholar and wants to learn more about magic, his own powers, etc, by studying in Amadronia, and so, his life as a student in a famous but also notorious academy begins. There are few (if any) twists in the story, I would say that like other games, Sable's Grimoire is another game with a school setting that manages to be interesting, at least because of how unexpected and wild the life in Amadronia Academy can be, there are different characters that are mostly likeable and at least the first time you play the game, you always want to see what happens next, add some funny moments and drama and you have one of many games with a school setting that, like the Persona games and the first Blue Reflection game for example, is engaging when it comes to the story. It's a game published by Gamuzumi, so, there is also suggestive art or situations if one is interested in that kind of art and content. Overall, a great story in my opinion.

Graphics: Compared to other games and visual novels, in Sable's Grimoire it's obvious that the background and sprites/2D art of the characters aren't made by the same person...the background artwork is made by Vui Huynh and the sprites and CG images are made by Shadilyn. Even with the difference in art styles or art, I still think that the game looks nice. The backgrounds look really nice and detailed and the sprites and CG images look good enough, there are other games with better art than this game, it's not on par with Nekopara or even Youkai Poetry, but what the game has looks good enough, a 7/10 for this category is fine.

Sound: Sable's Grimoire doesn't have voice acting and sound effects (the sound of birds chirping is part of that music), so, we only have the soundtrack and can't judge anything else for this category...the music is good, the game has an enjoyable and varied soundtrack, the orchestral theme ''Amadronia Academy'', the relaxing themes ''Spellcasting'' and ''Night On Campus'', not to mention the music ''Danger'' which sounds like a mix/combination of rock and electronic music, are just some examples of the many songs in the game, there are more than 26 songs in the game, I don't doubt that the small budget of the game was used in the soundtrack a lot considering the many themes and variety of music. The soundtrack is never amazing or awesome or whatever, but I still like the soundtrack and in my opinion, the music is more memorable than the music of other visual novels or games, I consider the music of Sable's Grimoire more memorable than the music of Nekopara for example.

Addictive: It's a visual novel with many choices throughout the story, but it's only going to be genuinely ''addictive'' if you love reading or if you are a fan of ''games'' like Sable's Grimoire, I've finished this game once but I don't think I'll try to get another ending of Sable's Grimoire until November of this year at least. if not until next year...yes, I would give Sable's Grimoire a higher number for this category if I could, but I can't, that said, I can at least say for sure that if you love visual novels unlike me, Sable's Grimoire can be a great experience.

Depth: With many different endings including bad ends or instances where the story ''ends'' with something bad (maybe the death of a character at worst) there is a lot to see and unlock in Sable's Grimoire, it has more CG images than other visual novels, it's actually impressive the amount of images to unlock. The first time you play Sable's Grimoire, the story will take you at least 10 hours, so, keep that in mind, it's a fact that it's longer than other visual novels including other games published by Gamuzumi, Sable's Grimoire is long, more or less, especially if we consider the different routes.

Difficulty: A blank space is fine for this category, it's a visual novel with choices to make and not much else.

I don't like the fact that Sable's Grimoire has a content warning, I don't support the idea of putting a content warning in a video game that isn't even rated as a game for kids, Sable's Grimoire is a game rated M and its content descriptors are ''Violence'', ''Blood'', ''Sexual Themes'' and ''Strong Language'', that's enough, those content descriptors and age rating are your warning, don't tell me that the game has depictions of graphic violence, references to abuse or whatever, I don't like that and it takes me out of the experience, developers, do not put content warnings in video games...this is one of the few video games I've played with a content warning, but at least unlike Death end re;Quest 2 for example, the content warning in Sable's Grimoire is shown only once when you play the game for the first time or if there is no save data. Yes, there are a few things I don't like about the game, in fact, there are some typos in the game, that said, there are games with more typos or where spelling mistakes and other errors are more consistent. I also think that the game might be even better with voice acting, I can easily imagine some characters with specific voice actors, I can imagine Johnny Yong Bosch as Sable, Melissa Fahn as Rei Mikawa, Brianna Knickerbocker as Eth, etc. but as I said, the game doesn't have voice acting...oh well. I enjoyed my time with Sable's Grimoire, I'm sure that the game had an extremely low budget especially for today standards, being a game without voice acting and sound effects, for example, there are other things that show the lack of budget...I still think that Sable's Grimoire is worth playing, at least if you are a fan of visual novels, if you hate visual novels and don't like fanservice of a sexual nature, get another game, if you love visual novels however...I recommend Sable's Grimoire.
