I own the original Sega Mega Drive game of this gem. Unfortunately I don't have a console to play it on now. This game I played during my childhood of the '90s.
It's the sequel to revenge of the shinobi, bringing new abilities, graphics, sounds & levels.
Graphics: Musashi & everything else looks great in 16bits.
Sound: Each track sounds great despite it being repeated a few times in areas. The boss fight music matches them perfectly as well as the finale.
Gameplay: Side scrolling action , with improvements such as running , slashing, wall jumps & the always useful double jump & shuriken burst. Some areas you need to practice your jumps & timing to progress, especially the last few level with the falling rocks & electric fields. I lost so many lives there.
Addictive: There's no new things to unlock once you've cleared it but the harder difficulties are there to add more challenges or if you want to do a no shuriken/magic run or search everywhere for secrets.
Story: It's pretty basic , Neo Zeed has returned & you have to stop the Ninja Master.
Depth : There's 7 stages with various areas & mini bosses/bosses to beat ,from forests to riding on a horse or jetski across a harbour ,to high tech facilities , a bio lab & finally a giant flying airship.
The bosses are all unique looking & some are throwbacks to the revenge of shinobi. The giant robot Godzilla like boss & the boss of stage 6.
Difficulty: It's pretty difficult but it feels less brutal than it's predecessor, after stage 4 it becomes harder, especially 6/7, the knock back isn't as bad as Castlevania but it gets annoying when you're jumping & an enemy projectile knocks you back down.
This is a great platformer & very nostalgic to me. I'd love the series to make a return in this sidscrolling format like streets of rage did but that's very unlikely.
