So before MECC was inserted into the learning company they opted to remake one of their beloved franchises, they gave the Muncher one more go before their stuff became The Learning Company's property and found itself in the company of the Super Solvers and Reader Rabbit

Gameplay and Story: So there isn't really a story to go with this game basically in the intro we get the muncher being sucked into the tv screen because Math Munchers Deluxe is a tv show, do you like to munch math facts? dodge obstacles to success? then you're in! At the start of every round we get commentary from well...commen-taters, literally potatoes Ruby Tuber and Spud Russet, and you get a tutorial you get it from this lady (who I can only call a rebel Blue Meanie) Cookie and she pops up when you play in WITH Troggles mode and leaves muncher treats on the board and you'll be invincible to the Troggles, you don't get to obliterate them like in the original game though. Every time you clear three boards you can watch some cutscenes, some commercials and segments from the Muncher Shopping Network, remember when that was a novelty?

Graphics: So the graphics in this game are a major upgrade from the originals muncher games they look like they have more of a texture rather than looking flat, they aren't really 3D anymore

Soundtrack: so there's not much variety to the soundtrack sadly which is kind of unfortunate, however the Hall of Fame Music is way better, it's basically a rap also there's more effort in the music in the cutscenes, though sometimes I wonder if one of the tracks got re-used for Road Adventures USA

Addictive: I played this game alot in my youth, because my parents saw me as a bit of a math prodigy, I was quite good at math back in the day, now I'm only good at certain types of math

Depth: So there is actually no ending to the game, you play until you quit or run out of lives due to eating the wrong answer or you get eaten by a troggle

Difficulty: If the math problems don't kill you the Troggles will, however they will give you the option to play without troggles, personally I prefer to play with troggles, mostly because Slimey can change the answers once in awhile, though some of the other troggles can be a real pain in the ass, like Doggle and the Crumbly Sisters (aka the Tandum Toaster Twins) and then there's Mel the Alien, Spidey and Eggie, they make the problems disappear. I'm not as good at math as I used to be sadly, so I'm not exactly looking forward to playing Carmen Sandiego Math Detective on Level 3

Post Review Follow up: This will be the first of a trio of reviews in the Muncherverse (well it's technically more than that there's also Troggle Trouble where the Muncher is actually an abduction victim, I did put in a request for a page on the site but it hasn't come through for some reason)

This concludes my review join me tomorrow when I review Trivia Munchers Deluxe, now I have a morning gaming video to make and a You Don't Know Jack Extra to film and a very limited time window to do it in, I wish I could have made this longer.

I'm glad to see there are doing remakes of the Munchers. When I was a young lad I remember the original Munchers. The game was fun. I can remember playing it after school, my mom worked at the same elementary school I was out. A lot of days I would play these games till it was time for my mom to get off. I was very good at the original game because I'm good at science and math. Hope this introduces the Munchers to a new generation.

tornadocam : This is actually from the 90s I think I would have heard if some company had acquired the rights, considering that The Learning Company has gone defunct and no one is doing anything with the munchers but the original versions of the game can be played on the MS-Dos area of the internet archive or on classic reload, I don't know if these games are on Steam
