With today's Switch update, I noticed that there was a major change to Nintendo Switch Online, and that got me thinking. Are we going to get Game Boy games on the console? We already have NES and SNES games so why not Game Boy? I mean we already had the option to play the original Pokemon games on the 3DS, so why not add those games to the Switch as well?
I was thinking about this because of the way that the new Switch Online page is set up and because of a couple other people who were talking about it.
For starters, Online now has an icon at the bottom of the home screen all the way on the left. I do think that normally, Online is a big deal just because of the games that are already available, but I don't believe that Nintendo would give Online its own icon if it wasn't going to be getting a big overhaul in the future.
In addition to that, the way that the Game Archives looks really makes it appear like there will be a new console added soon. Just like how I don't think Nintendo would give Online its own icon without a reason, I don't think they would have separated the consoles and given them their own tabs when there's only two to choose from, unless they were going to add more.
What do I personally think? I think the best route for Nintendo to take would be to add the original Game Boy and Game Boy Color, maybe even the Advance too. But not all the games, just the Pokemon ones to coincide with Pokemon anniversary next year. That way people can play more, if not all of the old Pokemon games on the Switch, and Nintnedo would have a foundation to add even more Game Boy games.
