Yie Ar Kung-Fu: One, Two, A Review!   Ultrajeff
Overview: Yie Ar Kung-Fu (lit. One, Two Kung-fu in Chinese) is a 1985 fighting game courtesy of Konami. Influential among Fighting games, this game innovated through the use of very varied opponents, colorful backgrounds, an assortment of moves, and very elegant music. It practically set the standard for fighting games, but would you enjoy playing it? Let us find  out.
Controls: Oolong can tap the directional stick upwards to leap forward and backwards, while he can use it to also direct his attack range (eg. placing the directional stick diagonally, along with the button to attack, allows Oolong to throw a diagonal punch or kick). Oolong can punch and kick opponents in eight given directions, which makes for a versatile repetoire of moves.
Gameplay: Oolong fights against eleven opponents in one-on-one matches, in which he must win in a single round. The first of these is Bushu, who is slow but reasonably strong, with a flying headbutt. The key to victory is attacking after he lands from the headbutt, along with a succesion of attacks. The second is Star, who attacks you with throwing stars. The key is attacking her stars to render them obsolete, then attack her when she runs. Nuncha can be painful, with several deadly close-range nunchaku attacks. Beat him through backing up constantly and attacking from a distance. Pole is annoying fast, and hits very hard. The strategy would be to jump-kick and barrage him in his chest before he attacks you. Feedle is kind of a Bonus boss and is quite easy, just hit his clones when they approach you. Chain's deadliness resides in his chains, which are absurdly long and difficult to dodge. Win by jumping or ducking them, and attacking very quickly and quietly. Club has a lot of defense, which can be negated through kicking him in his legs. Fan throws paper fans, which are somewhat slow and easy to hit (which can also earn you an extra life)! Win by closing in on her and attacking. Sword is especially tough, with fast sword strikes and parrying. The key to victory is attacking while keeping distance, without jumping too much. Tonfun moves quite fast, and can set up to decimate your efforts. He's the penultimate opponent, and tricky to beat. While not having Pole's or Chain's range, he makes up for it with a balance of good speed and power. His only weakness is fighting you close up, so corner him quickly and effeciently. Your final challenge happens to be Blues, your equal. He is truly fearsome, as he can read your moves and predict your strategy. Winning takes some careful trick plays and feints, like a jump-punch combo, or kicking and fleeing. Beating him ends the game. With it's varied opponents, this game is actually quite interesting 8/10
Graphics: For 1985, this is quite good. The characters move valiantly, while the backgrounds look quite stunning. Attack animations are fluid and exquisite. It's a nice treat. 8/10

Sound: This is also good. The music is fitting and fun, while the sound effects fit perfectly. 8/10
Addictiveness: This game is very, very fun. You will find joy in finding new winning, dazzling strategies against opponents or trying to do a perfect run. 10/10
Story: A very simple one. Oolong wants to be the best fighter in mainland China, so he enters a fighting tournament. 4/10

Depth: It doesn't offer much, but it really doesn't need too. 4/10
Difficulty: This game might be moderately challenging. If you know what you're doing, you'll be just fine. Bumrushing and button mashing will get you killed, so it's about strategy. 6/10
Overall: Yie Ar Kung Fu is quite the experience. It's fun and rewarding. If you happen to like fighting games or games that test your skill, this game is for you, friend. Just be very, very cautious. 8.8/10
