The Legend of Zelda - Link's Awakening Reviews

9.1
An awesome game to say the least   THEKILLERJUNKER
What can I say that hasn't been said a million times? Nothing that's what! And do you want to know why? Because this game is a great feat for the game boy. It is one of the best if not the best rpg you can find on the game boy library (next to Legend of Zelda the four swords another great rpg!)  It simply is a must have for your game boy library. While not the best, it still holds up to this day once someone brings the original game boy up in a conversation. So the question is does it live up to it's credit?  What is it that makes this game great? Let's find out!
Graphics: 8
The graphics - while not the best - still are great to look at. Very colorful and nice to look at and is much better than the graphics on the Pokemon red, blue , yellow, and green games. Now before you start justifying that pokemon is older I'll give you a quick fill in. This game came out in 1993 while pokemon red, blue, yellow, and green came out in 1998. That's about five years later. So anyway moving on with the graphics. While not the best on a Zelda game in general it still is dazzling and colorful to look at. This is the game boy at it's finest with a very colorful atmosphere to look at. It ranks up there with the original Zelda on the Nintendo Entertainment System with the graphics - not the best but still very impressive.
Sound: 8
The sound is another nice touch to this game. Instead of tirelessly borrowing or using the same music like some companies do, Nintendo brought a lot of effort with the music and did a fantastic job with the music and or sound. It's like the Pokemon series where they give each town their own little tune. It is very soothing to hear each and every little jingle while your quest for the legendary  triforce and Ganon's head on a silver platter continues. The music is one of the best done on the game boy. Even games like Super Mario Land or Mega Man : Dr. Wily's revenge aren't as memorable. So altogether this is one of the best tunes done for the game boy. PERIOD!
Addictiveness: 7
Giving up this game is like giving up on any drug - painful and frustrating. This game has so much good and wonderful things added to it with sophisticated dungeons, great enemies, and hard (but not impossible) puzzles. You will find yourself returning to this game every once and a while. However it isn't as addictive as lets say World of Warcraft or pokemon. But it still is addicting so be careful with how much you play! At some times it can get a bit boring but that is once in a blue moon. Most of the time it is filled with many obstacles that keep the game fresh from ever going stale. It is a very entertaining rpg to say the least.
Story: 8
The story is very different compared to your typical link saves Zelda scenario. In this story Link gets shipwrecked on an island where he helps the island's inhabitants and searches for eight mystical powers or tools. Now that is some originality to a story unlike the other Zelda games where you save Zelda from Ganon. So for this story to come out of nowhere is very special considering that this franchise revolves on Zelda and Ganon.
Depth: 8
This game has a lot to offer when it comes to the game play. It has a lot of dungeons, areas and characters which is why the game can be addicting. It has a great amount of replay value and is very enjoyable to with it's true nature. Like I said before it isn't the best Zelda game out there but it still is a great delivery when you think of pure rpg elements. Also this is on the game boy so that means that you can play this on the go unlike the Nes Legend of Zelda  which must be played at the television. And that means that you can continue the adventure any time you want without worrying about  having to go out . Which means that the game has a lot of depth considering that you can play it just about anywhere!
Difficulty:7
This game is hard but not as hard as Ninja Gaiden on the nes. Over the time you will get used to the game's mechanics, puzzles, obstacles, enemies, and bosses. But it does take time and patience to beat requiring a little bit if skill with that sword of yours and some maneuverability with some of the obstacles and puzzles. But this game is far from impossible. It doesn't even come close unlike games such as Ghost's n' goblins on the Super Nintendo or Contra Super C on the Nintendo nes. But it still provides the necessities of a good challenge when it comes to rpg gaming.
Overall: 9.3
This is a very entertaining game and a must have if you have a game boy or game boy color. If you haven't played yet I suggest you should check it out because you my friend are missing out on pure game boy/ rpg bliss. An excellent game if you want rpg at it's finest.

Another Review from Retrokid12   retrokid12
Oh, this game. This amazing, awesome game. Y'know I got this game for Christmas along with a Gameboy Pocket when I was about 10. I have loved it since the moment it fell into my hands. You see, there aren't many REALLY good RPGs on the Gameboy out there(except for Pokemon). I had spent many days playing this game, and I had gotten everything. Every Heart Piece, item, upgrade, you name it. But anyway, I shall begin.
Graphics - 10
These are probably the very best graphics I have ever seen on a Gameboy. Everything was detailed, and pleasing to the eye.
Sound - 10
There is not one single song or sound that will make you say, "Ew!", or, "Ow! My ears!!". Every sound is good and they sound like something you would hear in real-life. The songs are extravagantly amazing, and you'll want to listen to them over and over again.
Addictiveness - 7
This game is one you'll get sucked into. But if you're a completionist like me, you probably won't play it again after a long, long time after you complete it.
Story - 9 *SPOILERS AHEAD*
Well, you have saved the land of Hyrule three times now, and you head off on a boat to an island to train more so you can defend Hyrule more efficiently. But during your journey there, you get trapped in a storm and struck by lightning! You wake up in a bed in a girl named Marin's house with her father, Tarin. Tarin gives you your shield, telling you that monsters have become very violent since you washed up on the beach. So you set off to go back to the beach, and you find your sword! And then a talking owl comes and tells you about something called a "Wind Fish" and to set off for the Mysterious Woods. So you head there to find a Tail Key. The owl comes back and talks about a shrine called Tail Cave. So you go in and defeat the monsters in there, and you find a musical instrument! You leave to find the owl talking about the instrument, and you need to find the others. So while you are getting the instruments, you start realizing the dark secrets that Koholint Island holds, and you realize it's a dream! So when you vanquish the Nightmare and wake the Wind Fish, it all goes away, and you wake up... Only to find out that the Wind Fish is flying above you in the sky! Maybe it wasn't a dream after all! So, anyway, after that long, telling of the story, it was really good.
Depth - 10
There is a lot to do in this game. Many Heart Pieces to collect, a Trading Sequence, eight dungeons, and even a labryinth to go through! So get in there and do it all.
Difficulty - 6
The game isn't too hard. But it is hard enough to have anybody enjoy it.
Final Verdict - 9.5/10
It is a remarkable game that any RPG fan, or... ANYBODY should play.
