Super Mario Advance 4 Review: 'The best version of Mario Bros. 3 available'   Spicy

Hey, everyone and welcome to my review of: Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros 3.

Darn, that’s a long title. Anyway, this as most of us know by the title, is a remake of Super Mario Bros 3. For the Gameboy advanced. This game was released in 2003 (The year I was born!!!) And has the honour to have been released first in Japan, then in Europe, and then in the US.

Finally a game that gives us Euro’s some pride. But, anyway.

I played this game on my phone, and I must say it works very well with on screen buttons, and was still very easy and especially fun to play. Of course, the original Super Mario Bros 3, was one of the best games on the NES. It did have some issues, though. Like the fact that it was a big game and had no save feature.

Well, this game pretty much fixed everything, and you will see just how much I love this game, as the review goes on

Sound: 7/10

The First Mario and the second Japanese Mario have some iconic songs yes, but they were rather repititve. Super Doki Mario (The European and American Super Mario Bros 2.) Had pretty catchy songs, but they really aren’t Mario.

This game has some great music, I had my headphones on while I was playing the game, and I really loved the music. It fits the game perfectly, in the scary castle, we have a scary theme, in the happy colourful levels we have happy colourful music! Everything fits so perfectly.

The sound effects are great and memorable, too.

Overall, the music is really catchy and fun to listen to, and the sound effects are very, very memorable.

Graphics: 7/10

The graphics are pretty much ripped from the SNES Super Mario All-Stars port, the Gameboy Advanced had similar graphics to the SNES, the GBA could handle a bit more than the SNES.

I like the graphics, but for some reason I don’t necessarily love them. I mean, they do what they have to do. But they don’t really deliver anything special in my opinion.

The animation is smooth, and it looks bright and colourful, like you would expect.

The sprites, I have to admit look great, I love pretty much everything about the sprites.

Overall, I really think it does what it has to do, but It doesn’t do anything great and noticeable, a 7/10

Addictiveness 7/10

Now, I hear you screaming behind your screen ‘’What are you talking about!? Mario games are the most addictive things of addictive stuff!’’

You are right, most of the Mario games are incredibly addicting! And, this one is very addicting

But, just not incredibly for me. I don’t really know why, but Super Mario Bros. 3 was never incredibly addicting. To me anyways, the level design was good. But I felt that it wasn’t as good as the first one, or heck even new super Mario bros, and the galaxy games.

At times, I felt that the levels dragged on a little, just a tiny bit, mind you.

But, of course, I did give it a high rating, because after all it’s a Mario game.

I don’t really need to explain the gameplay, do I? You run from point a to point b, Avoiding obstacles and defeating enemies with various suits and transformations. It’s, well Mario.

Honestly, I never really knew why Super Mario Bros. 3 was so highly praised in the gameplay department, since well. It’s very basic, in my opinion.

Many even put it above super Mario world, which I don’t really understand, because I felt that Mario world had more variety, and was more addicting and well made.

But, overall I still think this is a highly addicting game a 7/10

Depth: 10/10

Now, for a GBA game, it might not be very big. But for an NES platformer, which it originally was, this is pretty amazing.

You have 8 long worlds to play in, all having their own unique theme. My personal favourite being big world, where everything’s big.

The various suits, are really great and even add a little bit of strategy to the game. This is a tricky game, so you’ll need all the suits you can get. The levels aren’t incredibly big, but they’re not short, either.

World 7 has extra levels that you don’t need to play, which adds to the replay ability.

There was also an E-card feature, I don’t know much about it, but it’s there if you want.

Honestly, there isn’t much to talk about here, originally it was an NES platformer, which are in general very short, so how big this game is, is very impressive. A 10/10

Difficulty: 9/10

I’m not very good at Mario games, so that’s why I’m rating it this high.

The difficulty does not come from the controls, which is very important. The controls are pretty much perfect. The enemy placement, is at times frustrating, which is probably the only problem with the difficulty.

The level design is very good,  and Mario plays perfectly, it is easy and fun to control.

Memorizing the levels is very important in this game, and I love games that force you to. It adds to the fun and difficulty part in good ways.

Like I said, though, I’m not very good at Mario games, so I’m not good at this. I am not absolutely horrible, but not very great either.

Overall, the difficulty is great, yet a little too high for my liking. A 9/10

Story 6/10

The story goes as followed:

We all know the Mushroom Kingdom, it’s a safe place because of our heroes, Mario and Luigi. However, the mushroom KINGDOM forms an entrance to the Mushroom world, a not so safe place. Bowser sent his seven sons to wreak havoc in this normally safe land.

And now, Mario and Luigi have to stop them! Very simple plot, but it’s a lot better than the regular The princess is gone thing we get in Mario games.

I didn’t feel that the plot was very interesting, and I wasn’t very excited for it, I was more interested in the gameplay. And, I don’t feel that the plot is very important in games, if the gameplay and controls are good, it’s going to be a good game, no matter how bad the plot is.

I like the plot, but that’s how far it goes. It’s really, just okay. It’s nothing special, because it shouldn’t be. That would take away from the experience, and make the game less interesting. That might sound.. Ludacris, but I really feel that way. A great storyline, should not be present in a main series Mario game.

Memories: N/A

I have no memories of this game, whatsoever.

Overall: 8/10

I’m rating this game lower then what most people would. The gameplay and controls are good, yes they are. But for me, the enemy placement was a little frustrating, and while the level design was good, it isn’t as good as Super Mario World, or heck even New Super Mario Bros. DS in my opinion.

The sound was decent, and the game was addicting, but, the great classic Mario games this game gets compared to, I don’t think it holds up.

The last of the SMA titles, and without a doubt, the best of all of them...   RedHotToddy
As you see, I've reviewed 3 of the Mario advance titles so far, and now it's time to top it all off with what some people declare as the best Mario game of all time, Super Mario bros 3. I agree too, this is not only the best Mario title, but the best Super Mario advance title! Let's see why this game received critical acclaim!
Story-10/10
The story behind this game is that bower has returned to the mushroom kingdom and know with the help of the seven koopalings, he tries to conquer it again. He sends his koopalings (Larry Roy lemmy Wendy iggy morton and Ludwig) into seven parts of the mushroom world to steal the mushroom kings' magic wands, and with the wand, they transform the kings into various creatures, Peach sends Mario and Luigi to go and stop the koopalings, and turn the kings back into their normal form.
Gameplay-10/10
This game plays like your typical Mario game, you run from the start of the stage to the end collecting coins, defeating enemies, and well yea....doing everything else that you do in Mario games. Most of the original powers from the first game return, like the star, which gives you invincibility, the fire flower which lets you shoot fireballs, and a new addition, the frog suit, which lets you swim underwater. OH YES! One more! The tanooki suit, which grants you a raccoon tail and lets you fly all over the place.
Graphics-10/10
This is without a doubt, the best looking Mario title yet! All the levels are bursting with atmosphere and color, which makes up for the visually detailed character sprites! Once again Nintendo! You never cease to amaze us!
Addictiveness-10/10
This has got to be one of the most addicting Mario titles yet! There is no reason to get bored of this game at all!
Depth-10/10
Like all other SMA games, you get the option to play the original Mario bros, and this game also has some sort of E card thingy....I never got how this worked....so yeah.
Difficulty-7/10
Oh yes the difficulty....i remember this game kicking my tooshi in the later levels, like...."Shivers" Iced land.....the place was where things got really harder then usual!
Overall-10/10
This is officaly my all time SMA game of all time! I know I said SMA2 was my favorite one,but now, this is one is! If you see this anywhere, I highly recommend this! Just buy it!

Super Mario Bro's 3 Super Mario Advanced 4   marcus047
Game Background- This Mario Game is a classic remake of Super Mario Bro's 3 that came out for the Nes gaming system. The game was developed and published by Nintendo. This game has two games in one, Super Mario Bro's 3 and Super Mario Advanced 4. In Super Mario Bro's 3  Bowser's children(Koopa's) are going all around the Mushroom Kingdom and stealing royal magic wands and turning Mushroom Kingdom royalty in to creatures and it has gotten so bad  Toad has been forced to ask Princess Peach to call upon Mario and Luigi for help.Mario and Luigi must set out on another epic quest (either playing as either Mario or you can alternate between Him and Luigi) and chase down a flying ship were the thieving Koopa's have taken the wands and are bent on destroying all of the Mushroom Kingdom. In Super Mario Advanced 4,the game is the original classic game of Mario like you would see in a arcade off a Arcade machine, so if you love the classic arcade game or an older Mario fan and you have played the classic in an arcade you will enjoy this newer up to date version with updated graphics and colorization!
Graphics- Super Mario Bro's 3's graphics(facial wise)on Mario and Luigi are incredibly more detailed and by far the best in the franchise for the Game Boy Advanced system. The level/stage layout is far better and goes into more extensive detail and design background in game wise and quite frankly the best I've seen it out of all Mario installments for the Game Boy Advanced system. So for Super Mario Bro's 3 graphics I gave the game a 10 out of 10. Super Mario Advanced 4's graphics are updated and re- colorized to the Game Boy Advanced standards as well as layout and stage graphic designs so for Super Mario Advanced 4 I gave the graphics a 10 out of 10.
Sound- The sound for Super Mario Bro's 3 is what you would expect from any other Mario game. The soundtrack changes every now and again between stages/levels, but the acoustics and pitch are fine with Mario and Luigi's voices and Koopa cries as well as the soundtracks , with no abnormalities. So for Super Mario Bro's 3's sound I gave the game a 10 out of 10. Super Mario Advanced 4's sound has the classic soundtrack for the original arcade Mario and has just been re mastered and edited to sound a lot more clear (pitch and acoustic  wise). So for Super Mario Advanced 4 I gave the sound a 10 out of 10, for keeping it true to its original soundtrack and just updated its quality and making it more clear to understand.
Addictiveness-For Super Mario Bro's 3 I was very in tuned with the game, it held my attention as well as interest because of its diversity from other Mario games from the franchise. The game has a whole new style map as well as  new power items which only added on to the overall appeal of the game. This game had me up well over midnight playing and enjoy all of its stages. But the game does get tired some rather quickly because your basically playing over the same level layout just with minor changes minion/enemy wise. So for Super Mario Bro's 3 I gave its addictiveness a 8 out of 10.For  Super Mario Advanced 4, I wasn't really as excited to pay though  and beat that game, nor was I really addicted to it because its an endless cycle of classic Mario levels/stages, which basically got boring very quickly for me around the 27 stage. So for addictiveness for Super Mario Advanced 4 I gave the game a 6 out of 10, because I guess you would be addicted to it if you like the original Mario stages/levels.
Story-The story for Super Mario Bro's 3 is quite interesting because its not what you would expect from a typical Mario game.Instead of the usual story of Mario, Bowser has kidnapped Princess Peach this time the Mushrooms Kingdoms royalty is being targeted by Bowsers children the Koopa's. The Koopa's are taking Mushroom Kingdoms royalty magic wands and are planning a(n) full scale attack with the wands from a flying air ship and its up to Mario and Luigi to stop them! So for Super Mario Bro's 3 I gave the story a 10 out of 10. The story for Super Mario Advanced 4 went like your Mario and you are stuck in the piping system underground the Mushroom Kingdom and are being attacked and pursued by Koopa minions and you basically fighting for survival. The Story for Super Mario Advanced isn't clear nor well explained and the story I provided was what I concluded from playing the game. So for Super Mario Advanced 4 I gave the story a 1 out of 10.
Depth-Super Mario Bro's 3 is a very long and open world game with plentiful levels/stages to conquer, especial if your on of those gamers who enjoy beating every aspect of a game.It has various paths to reach the ship on each world/stage which will have you playing the game for hour without end especial(once again) if your one of those gamers who love to beat every aspect of a game so enjoy! So for Super Mario Bro's 3 I gave its depth a 10 out of 10. Super Mario Advanced 4 is also a very long game, because it is a never ending cycle of classic Mario stages/levels that will not end until you die. So for Super Mario Advanced 4 I gave it's depth a 10 out of 10.
Difficulty-Well (sigh) the difficulty for Super Mario Bro's 3 is very low, because you can hold up to 3 items in storage for later use, and the Koopa's and stage/level difficulty doesn't really increase as the game gets closer and closer to the end.So for Super Mario Bro's 3 difficulty I gave the game a 7 out of 10.For Super Mario Advanced 4 I gave its difficulty a 10 out of 10,because the game get's harder and harder as it progresses as well as the Koopa minions and the layouts of the stages/levels.
Overall-Overall I gave Super Mario Bro's 3 a 9.4 out of 10 because of its individuality in level/stage design, depth and story which Nintendo keep it the same as its classic original.Overall for Super Mario Advanced I give it a 9 out of 10, because it lacks a story, but it makes up for that in depth, and difficulty, and Nintendo also keep it like its classic for the arcade machine, only making minor changes to its graphics and design.

Super Mario bros 3 and Mario Brothers reveiw   dennyjr22
The graphics in Super Mario Brothers 3 are not the best graphics in the world, but the graphics are nice and colorful.Plus, the graphics are better than the NES and SNES versions of the game. The music in Super Mario Brothers 3 is not the best music you have ever herd, but is not the worst type of music you have ever herd either. The music is not as addictive is some other games music though. This game has quite a bit to offer. To get 100 percent completion in the game, you must pass all of the levels in all eight worlds. When you beat all the levels in a world, a message will appear that says,"World 1 Perfect!" if you complete world 1's levels.Same for world's 2 through 8, a message will appear when you complete all the levels in those worlds as well. The story is not all that bad, the bad thing is that it does not tell you about the Bowser's seven children(kooplings). It does tell you about what is going on in the game, it tells you about how the koopling's stole the magic wands, it also tells you how the kooplings traveled to each of the worlds to steal the magic wand from the world's castles.Super Mario Brothers 3 is a very addictive game. The levels can sometimes be annoying, but this game is a fun game to play.Super Mario Brothers 3 is a very unique game in its own way.The world's in Super Mario Brothers 3 are unique in appearance, color, and size. Some worlds in Super Mario Brothers are short, some of them are long. One of the longest worlds in Super Mario Brothers 3, is world 6.It has 10 levels, and four fortresses. One the shortest worlds is world 1.World 1 has 6 levels, and 1 fortress.Super Mario Brothers 3 is sort of hard on some of the levels in the game.As you move through the game, things will increase in difficulty.Mario Brothers has okay graphics, not as good as Super Mario Brothers 3 graphics. However the graphics in Mario Brothers are in color, not in black and white. The music is not the best sounding music in the world, nor is the music addictive, its okay though. The addictiveness of Mario Brothers is not too bad, but does not have much fun to it as Super Mario Brothers 3 does. There is not really a story involved in Mario Brothers. It is an arcade-like game, and arcade games sometimes do not have stories to it.This game does not have a lot to offer like Super Mario Brothers 3 does.It does have fun bonus phases where have to collect coins in an allotted time.If you can get them all, you will get a extra life.Coins are worth eight hundred points, enemies are worth eight hundred points, but if you flip an enemy over, and it turns green, you can get sixteen hundred points if you eliminate that enemy.Mario Brothers is not a very complicated game if you know the controls. The main goal in Mario Brothers is to eliminate all of the enemies in the phase to move on to the next phase. There are 2 "POW" blocks that will flip all the enemies in the area over.Use them wisely, because you only get 3 hit per block, and you will not get another set until after the bonus game, so use them wisely.Be careful of fireballs, as they can kill Mario if you come in contact with one.In Super Mario Brothers 3, there are eight worlds, The grass land, Desert Land, Sea Side, Giant world, The sky, Iced Land, Pipe maze, And the Dark world. In world 1, There is a hidden warp whistle in level 3, and a hidden one in the fortress level. There is also one in world 2.To get to it, get the hammer up to the brown wall located across level 4.Use the hammer to break it down and get across. There should be a red Hammer brother located somewhere in that section.Go to it, and defeat the two red Hammer brothers. Then, go to the treasure chest, and the warp whistle should appear over the opened treasure chest. There are many power-ups in Super Mario Brothers 3.There is the super mushroom, fire flower, raccoon Mario, Tanooki Mario, Hammer Mario, and other power-ups.Most power-ups can be found two different ways, by finding them in a level in the game, or by going to a orange or red mushroom house.

Super Mario Bros. 3 on GBA   IgorBird122
Another review by IB122 and the game this time is on Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3. This game is a remake of he hit classic game, Super Mario Bros. 3 from the NES and the SNES (All-Stars) versions all fitted into a handheld system known as the Game Boy Advance and this game has got a little bit of a twist with a lot of brand new features added all into this game, which I will mention all below in the main review. This game is the 4th game in the Super Mario Advance series and more in likely the best one in that one series which comes to the conclusion to the saying "Saving the Best for Last" and they really live up that quote with this one game right here. Also, like the other Super Mario Advance games, you can also play a really famous classic game which I will mention in the review below as well.
Ok, with the intro all talked out and let's move on with this big review, show we.
The Graphics:
The Graphics are quite similar to the All-Star version of Super Mario Bros. 3 on the SNES, but this game that scaled down to the Game Boy Advance is a outstanding job and possibly to my opinion the best for the Game Boy Advance, and I got to say why I think so, by looking at some of the worlds and levels, I think personally that they're very outstanding and all well done, to be honest, I think Nintendo did an amazing job on this remake for the GBA, the graphics are exactly like we see in the SNES version, no flaws, no glitches, no miscolors, it's all perfect, and I just like that a whole lot, and also it's not just the environment I'm talking about, it's also all the character spites and all the blocks in the game as well and also to my point of view, with the graphic layouts in this game, like I said, it might be the best that Nintendo has came up with for the Game Boy Advance.
Ok, with that said for the graphics, I'm going to give the graphic sector of this game a perfect 10 out of 10, I just really like on how the graphics turned out in this game, it's just amazing
----
The Sound/Music:
The Sound effects in this game is also quite impressive as well, it does bring back the sounds we heard from the All-Star SNES version, which give it that classic sounding, with all the jumping, destroying blocks, defeating enemies, using power-ups and everything else from that game, and also to add in this game as well is the character voices which is very awesome feature in not just this game, but in the other Advance games and future games as well, which I think adding voices into the game is a really smart feature to add in as well, a pretty nice job. For the Music, it all came from the SNES version, but more of a remix feel to it as well i each of those levels and I think the music in this game to my opinion is the best one in Super Mario Bros. 3, and why I say that, just listening to the music I think makes the player really enjoy each of the levels their playing, giving it a more of a vibe for them to get through the whole game all the way to them defeating Bowser which to my though is a nice tune to the whole Music sector, and not just the music, but the Sound effects as well, and also, I think the music is very appropriate for the Game Boy Advance, because on how it's played with a slightly higher tone than on the SNES version. Without much I think the sound and Music has impacted this game to a certain extent.
I do got to say that for the Game Boy Advance, it's a fantastic job, I'm going to give this a perfect 10 out of 10
----
The Addiction Level:
With the addiction level in this one game is just fantastic, I think personally that it is, the reason why I think so, it's playing Super Mario Bros. on to-go so you can take your Super Mario Bros. 3 adventures on the road, and you know how addicting Super Mario Bros, 3 is on the NES and the SNES (All-Stars) happens to be and with this game. Also, how much of a fan I am with the game Super Mario Bros. 3, I got to say with Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3, I don't have to play this on my television while playing it on the NES or the SNES (Playing Super Mario All-Stars), if I feel like playing this while I'm away from my television, as long I got a Game Boy Advance with me and I have this game, all I have to do it just put the game in and just play Super Mario Bros. 3 without using the T.V. and it's not just me that thinks this, a whole lot of other people likes this as will and I think that's also what makes this game really addicting, with all you can do (I'll mention in the Depths below) and how much you like this game I think personally think is what makes this one gave really addicting.
With all I said, I'm going to go ahead and give the addiction level of this game a perfect 10 out of 10 because of how addicting this one game on the Game Boy Advance can possibly be because you're playing Siper Mario Bros. 3 on the road.
----
The Story:
The story in Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3 for the GBA is a little bit different than from the NES/SNES version, the typical Mario story of where Bowser kidnaps Princess Peach and Mario has to go save her doesn't kick in until the last world of the game, the difference from this game and other Mario games, the king of that castle has been transformed into a certain creature, and in the NES/SNES versions, we didn't see on who's fully responsible, but now in the GBA version of the game, we now see who's responsible and it's the Koopalings that turned the kings into those creatures (although a couple people may already know before the NES/SNES release and you got to get the wand back to change the king back to their normal selves, and then while Mario is distracted with getting the kings back to their normal selves, that is when Bowser has kidnap Princess Peach and Mario didn't realized it until after he taken care with the final king of the world and you have to go in the final world to face Bowser once again and save Princess Peach. As for the rest of the story in Super Mario Advance 4 hasn't much changed than from the NES/SNES versions, it stays the same for the most of the game, just with a lot more added into the NES/SNES story of Super Mario Bros. 3.
For the story, because this being a remake story for the GBA, but with a whole lot more added on into the main storylike, I will give the story in this game a 8 out of 10
----
The Depth:
I think with the Depth of this game, I surly say that this game sure has a whole lot to offer, with all the different levels you have in this one game, like all the stuff you can do from Super Mario Bros. 3 from the NES and SNES versions like all the different kinds of Power-ups in the game like the Super Mushroom, the Fire-Flower, The Super Leaf and just to name a few, and with all the bonus content and all the different paths you can also take in this game as well, with every one of those alternative paths you can take can have a number of goodies in them as well including a lot of bonus levels and who knows what else you can maybe find as well, and also exclusively in this game, you also have a World e area as well, I know how that'll work, but I think you need to own a GBA for real to have that to work though, so I think just on here, it's more of a waste of a world (but I'm not complaining though). Also, like in other Super Mario Advance games, this game also gives you a chance to play the classic Mario Bros. game as well so it'll give the player an experience of playing that classic game with the newer graphics of the GBA which to my point of view is also another fun thing to play as well
All that said about the Depth of the game, I'm going to go on and going to give this a 9 out of 10, it's a game that has a whole lot to offer and it's contents are quite amazing and that is why I gave this a really high rating for this one game, pretty nice.
----
The Difficulty/Gameplay:
(Starting in this review, I'm going to add in the gameplay to the difficulty)
For the difficulty in this game, it's really not that bad, really, mostly if you know what're doing in the NES or SNES version, you mostly know on what you're doing, but if you haven't played the NES nor the SNES version of this game, then this game can be a little bit more difficult to play, with this game like every other game, it'll start out really easy, but the later levels you go through, they tend to get much more harder and harder and with World 8 being the hardest level in the game, and with a ton of enemies, they can sometimes be extremely easy, so some enemies becoming nearly impossible to delete and for each of the bosses at the end of the world, some can be quite easy while others that'll take a lot of tries and each time you fail, you have to chase after the ship in the world, but hat's mostly all with the whole difficulty. As for the gameplay, I think the controls of the game is quite nice though, they ain't a whole lot confusing, although this being a Game Boy Advance, and we got two less buttons than on the SNES, but that doesn't really matter because Super Mario Bros. 3 started on the NES and the NES has the same number of buttons as on the GBA, so in a way, that's really beneficial though, so mostly if you know the controls on the Nintendo Entertainment System, then you know the controls for the Game Boy Advance mostly, That's mostly all I got to say regarding the Difficulty and the Gameplay on this game.
With all I got to say regarding the Difficulty and the Gameplay in this game, it's pretty easy once you're used to it, because they're mostly similar to the NES version, mostly in a GBA with SNES version graphics, so I'm going to give this a 7 out of 10.

Overall:
Overall in this game, I do got to say it's a really huge accomplishment for the Game Boy Advance and this being the final installment in the Super Mario Advance series, they really saved the best for last and I think the stuff I mentioned above like the Graphics and the Sound and Music all came out pretty great for the Game Boy Advance and that's why they're both 10s, and also for the addiction level on how much I described this game as playing Super Mario Bros. 3 on the road which is going to make a really addicting game. The story I mentioned, it's pretty self-explanatory, Bowser kidnaps Peach while Mario is distracted with the Kings. and in the Depth, I mentioned that this game's got a whole lot, and this game isn't that much difficult like I mentioned. For my final thoughts on this game, I do have to say, this is a highly successful game in the Game Boy Advance system, and with it's contents, it's a really nice game to try out if you want to give it a shot, if you own a GBA (or just want to get it on here), I do 100% recommend this game if you happen to be, one, own a GBA, and two, really love Super Mario Bros. 3. That is all I got to say about this game.
Overall if I have to rank this game I will give this game a 9.5 out of 10, the reason I rank it that high because it is a really great game with a whole lot of effort put into this one game for a handheld system and that is a really high success for Nintendo to have for this game and that is a pretty nice job they made by putting Super Mario Bros. 3 all into this handheld system., and that's all I got to say for this review, and this was a pretty long review.

Super Mario Bros 3 Review   Divine Aurora
"It's ah Mario time!",This Mario Game is a decent quality remake of Super Mario Bro's 3.Super Mario Bros 3 has two games in one, Super Mario Bro's 3 and Super Mario Advanced 4. In Super Mario Advanced 4,the game is the original classic game of Mario like you would see in a arcade off a Arcade machine.
Graphics: 10
"What are the graphics like in each respected game?", well Super Mario Bro's 3's graphics(facial wise)on Mario and Luigi are incredibly more detailed and by far the best in the franchise for the Game Boy Advanced system.
Sound: 10
"What can be expected out of the sound quality for each game?",well the sound for Super Mario Bro's 3 is what you would expect from any other Mario game.
Addictiveness: 7
"So just how addicting was the two games?", well for Super Mario Bro's 3 I was very in tuned with the game, it held my attention as well as interest because of its diversity from other Mario games from the franchise. The game has a whole new style map as well as  new power items which only added on to the overall appeal of the game. This game had me up well over midnight playing and enjoy all of its stages. But the game does get tired some rather quickly because your basically playing over the same level layout just with minor changes minion/enemy wise. So for Super Mario Bro's 3 I gave its addictiveness a 7 out of 10.For  Super Mario Advanced 4, I wasn't really as excited to pay though  and beat that game, nor was I really addicted to it because its an endless cycle of classic Mario levels/stages, which basically got boring very quickly for me around the 27 stage. So for addictiveness for Super Mario Advanced 4 I gave the game a 6 out of 10, because I guess you would be addicted to it if you like the original Mario stages/levels.
Story: 8
"What stories  are portrayed in the two games?", well the story for Super Mario Bro's 3 is quite interesting because its not what you would expect from a typical Mario game.Instead of the usual story of Mario, Bowser has kidnapped Princess Peach this time the Mushrooms Kingdoms royalty is being targeted by Bowsers children the Koopa's. The Koopa's are taking Mushroom Kingdoms royalty magic wands and are planning a(n) full scale attack with the wands from a flying air ship and its up to Mario and Luigi to stop them! So for Super Mario Bro's 3 I gave the story a 8 out of 10.
Depth: 7
"Just how long is the length of the two games portrayed?", well Super Mario Bro's 3 is a very long and open world game with plentiful levels/stages to conquer, especial if your on of those people who enjoy beating every aspect of a game.It has various paths to reach the ship on each world/stage which will have you playing the game for hour without end especial(once again) if your one of those gamers who love to beat every aspect of a game so enjoy! So for Super Mario Bro's 3 I gave its depth a 7 out of 10. Super Mario Advanced 4 is also a very long game, because it is a never ending cycle of classic Mario stages/levels that will not end until you die. So for Super Mario Advanced 4 I gave it's depth a 7 out of 10.
Difficulty: 6
"Just how hard are the two games to beat?",well the difficulty for Super Mario Bro's 3 is very low, because you can hold up to 3 items in storage for later use, and the Koopa's and stage/level difficulty doesn't really increase as the game gets closer and closer to the end.So for Super Mario Bro's 3 difficulty I gave the game a 6 out of 10.For Super Mario Advanced 4 I gave its difficulty a 5 out of 10,because the game get's harder and harder as it progresses as well as the Koopa minions and the layouts of the stages/levels.
Overall 9.4
Overall I gave Super Mario Bro's 3 a 9.4 out of 10 because its a brilliant remastered and restored version of its original Nintendo Nes  version(graphics and sound wise), and because the story portrayed in Super Mario Bros 3 is completely different than what was seen from other Mario games in the Mario franchise. For Super Mario Advanced 4 overall I gave that game a 8 out of 10 because there just wasn't enough depth in that game for me but it diffidently  appeals to older Mario fans considering it is a remaster and revised version of the classic Mario bros like one would see in a arcade or a arcade version.

Another Mario Remake for the Gameboy Advance   luigi25

Super Mario Advance 4 is the Gameboy Advance remake of the popular Super Mario Bros. 3. It is basically the Super Mario All-Stars version ported to the handheld Gameboy Advance. There isn't a whole lot of new content added to this remake. The player has the option of playing as Mario and Luigi or just play solo as Mario. SMB3 is a beloved game from my childhood that I was a big fan of. I got it as a Christmas gift along with an NES in 1992. I also got to play it when I got my SNES a year later for Christmas in '93 on Mario All-Stars. I liked both versions but probably preferred the All-Stars version. The GBA version, like with all the other Mario remakes is another disappointment, even though it is still a good game.

Graphics 9/10: Super Mario Advance 4 is an enhancement over the NES Super Mario Bros. 3, but it is not as good as the version that was already done in 1993 with Super Mario All-Stars. This game looks almost identical to that version, but there is a little bit of screen crunch. There is still a lot of detail put into the sprites and backgrounds, but like with all the other SMA games, the color is pretty faded. I rate SMA4 the same as I did the first game. It is mainly just the SNES version of SMB3 ported to a handheld GBA which looks nice but nothing like that version did.

Music 6/10: I can't say anything different about the music for Advance 4 that I haven't already said about the other games in this series. There is nothing new about it. Players get a soundtrack that has just been ported over from the All-Stars version. The sound effects are weak, and the songs are very bland when compared to the original NES game. There is too much variety in all 3 versions, but this one has speaker limitations that give the game the same muddy sound that the other Mario Advance games have. I rate the music/sound the same as I did for the other ones.

Gameplay 6/10: Super Mario Advance 4 has about the same number of levels that SMB3 had. Not all of the levels had to be played in order to beat the game. Mario and Luigi can earn items in the Toad Houses, matching games, and from fighting the Hammer Bros. The player can also earn infinite lives which are also pretty plentiful in this game. Additionally, you take more than one hit after getting the Fire Flower, Super Leaf, Tanooki Suit, or Frog Suit. There are more save points in this version of SMB3, but it works no better than on the SNES. It isn't as good as in the previous SMA games either. In those, you could save after a level at any time as long as remembered to hit Start and Save and Continue.

This port contains the same 8 worlds with their overworld maps and the same item system as before. You cannot go back to levels in the original game or this game either. There are also no secret exits or special coins to collect like in the other Super Mario Advance games. You do have the option of playing as Mario and Luigi which is pretty nice because you can hold more items. This is a fairly long game, but not all the levels have to be played to beat it. The Super Leaf, Tanooki Suit, Hammer Suit and Frog Suit are all cool items. The Mario Bros. arcade game from 1983 is also included in this port and plays the same as it did in the other games.

Super Mario Advance 4 is basically just a remake of SMB3 ported over from the SNES. It has been enhanced some, but it is not all that much different. In my opinion, the save system works no better than it did in All-Stars. I did like how it included Luigi, but other than that it is the same game unlike with Advance 2. I don't know what it was, but I enjoyed the GBA version of SMB3 the least. The controls still felt off, and the layout and design of the game was no different from the original. You're just playing a cheap version of a classic game from my childhood. After playing it again, I don't like how there is no element of surprise. The game feels like it takes longer than it should and is not all that memorable or catchy with its levels or content.

Story 10/10: The story was kept the same for the Gameboy Advance remake. Bowser has sent his 7 children to steal the magic wands from each of the 7 kings of the Mushroom Kingdom. Larry Koopa is shown stealing the wand from the king of Grass Land at the beginning of the game in this version. Mario and Luigi set out to get back the magic wands from the Koopalings, turn the kings back into their human forms, and restore peace to the Mushroom World. While the Mario Bros. are off doing this, Bowser kidnaps the Princess yet again and takes her to his castle in Dark Land.

The story for Super Mario Bros. 3 was something different from the first game and probably even more well thought out then the one for Super Mario World. It is probably my favorite out of the whole series. These characters would be used again in the SMB3 cartoons which I liked the best out of the cartoon trilogy as well. Everything here stays faithful to the original.

Content 10/10: Players get the same 8 worlds: Grass Land, Desert Land, Water Land, Giant Land, Sky Land, Ice Land, Pipe Land, and Dark Land, that they got before with the NES and SNES versions. However, the GBA version takes up more time for some reason. Why is this?! I spend 2 and 1/2 to 3 hours on those versions, but here, I find myself spending well over 3 hours trying to complete this game. Sometimes, I even go to almost 3 and 1/2! Nonetheless, after completing the game, there is nothing else to do unless you want to play the Mario Bros. arcade game, and I think I'll pass on that.

Difficulty 9/10: As far as the way this game played, it is the hardest out of the Advance series. It does nothing to make the game easier than any other version. I find it harder than the All-Stars and NES games. The save system sucks when compared to other Mario games on the system. It only saves you up to the Fortresses unless you hit Save and Quit on the rest of the game. Why not give players the option the Save and Continue like before? Not only that, but the controls and jumping feel off. The problem with screen crunch still exists. The challenge of the original game is still there, but for this port it isn't a fun type of challenge where you want to keep playing.

This time, I can't wait to finish the game because it just seems to drag on longer than it should. There is nothing different and just feels harder than it should be. The save system isn't much of an improvement over the other games, and it really isn't a very rewarding to play. It's still a playable game, but it gets very long and tedious towards the end without much of a way to avoid playing levels you've already played. Playing as Luigi does give players more of an item selection, but after you use that item, it's gone so be careful. Advance 4 can be a pretty frustrating game at times.

Overall 8.2/10: Super Mario Advance 4, overall, is a decent game but not near as good as the other versions for NES or SNES. For me, Advance 2 was my favorite, but here it seems Nintendo ran out of steam. It is the last game of the Mario Advance series, and I think Nintendo was just burned out at this point. There just feels like there wasn't as much effort put into this game like there was with the other ones. Knowing what I know about Super Mario Bros. 3, this port should have been better. Anyway, this completes my review of the GBA Mario series. Overall, none of the games gave me the same experience I got as a kid, and I guess this one is no worse than the others. Some players may disagree with me, but it all depends on the individual.

Super Mario Advance 4 - Super Mario Bros. 3 Cheat Codes

Many Tanooki Suits

In World 5 (Cloud World), the first available mushroom house has a Tanooki Suit. Get it and beat levels until you get to the cloud part of the world by beating the spiral tower. The game offers to save your game. Save it, then get game over. When you continue, you keep the Tanooki Suit you got at the mushroom house, and the mushroom house has returned! All of the other levels remain defeated as well, though the spiral tower remains standing, so you cna beat it and save your game, get game over, and get another Tanooki Suit each time! The suits make good replacements for leaves, mushrooms, and useless items (like music boxes) in your item list.

Glitch only works for World 5 due to the ability to beat the spiral tower as many times as you want and save after each time.

1,000,000 Star

For every 1,000,000 points you earn, a star will appear above the title Super Mario Bros. 3 (where you select between Super Mario Bros. 3 or Mario Bros.) You can earn up to five stars.

Worlds 1, 3, 5, 7 You get the P-Wings
Worlds 2, 4, 6 You get Anchors

Behind-The-Scenes

In most levels, there are multi-colored blocks held up by screws. With the white ones, you can drop behind the scenes to escape enemies or find secret exits by holding down on the d-pad for 5 seconds. In World 1-3 towards the end of the level, drop behind from on top the white block and run behind the black curtain. You will uncover a hidden mushroom house which contains a warp whistle.

Special World Endings

Defeat the Koopaling at the end of an Airship (Worlds 1-7) while wearing either the Frog, Tanooki, or Hammer Bros. suit and receive a special message from the King.

Get the Magic Whistles

Whistle 1- On Level 1-3 when you get to the end of the course you will find a white block. Hold down while on top of the white block until you go behind the scenery. From here run to the end of the course and you will be transported to a room with a magic whistle.

Whistle 2- On the World 1 Fortess, when you come across the first Dry-Bones, there will be a [?] block. Hit this to get a leaf. As Racoon Mario, knock out the dry bones and fly up the ledge until you start walking along the top of it. Continue going right whilst on top of the ledge until you stop moving. Press up to be transported to a room with a Whistle.

Whistle 3- On World 2 after you have collected the Hammer from the Hammer Brothers go to the top right corner of the world map. Use the Hammer to break a rock leading to a secret passge. In here there is a Firs Brothers, beat them to get the Whistle.

Get Unlimited Lives in World 3-4

Attract Lakitu to the pit underneath the Venus Fire Trap. Next, launch a Koopa shell between the two wooden blocks. Now, as Lakitu launches Spiny Eggs, the Koopa shell will instantly destroy them. Accumulate enough points, and soon you will receive infinite lives. (NOTE: The max amount of lives you can get is 999.)

Infinite Lives in World 2 Fortress

You need to be Raccoon Mario to do this. When you enter the World 2 Fortress, don't attack the first Dry Bones (the skeletal turtle) you see. Instead, lure it over to the other two Dry Bones a few screens ahead. Now, jump on the first one, and use the raccoon tail to flutter onto the next one, and then the final one. By then, the first one should be back on its feet. Keep repeating the process for infinite lives.

N-Spade Memory Game

The N-Spade Memory Game will appear on the world map every 80,000 points you score.

There are a select amount of layouts that the game will select from.
