An awesome party game to play with friends!   RedHotToddy
I remembered playing Mario party, it was a party with a bunch of minigames that you can play with your friends or by yourself, This series has came a very long way, and we are supposed to get a Mario party for the 3DS very oh so soon, So let's just take some time and review the first game of this amazing series! This is Mario party for the N64.
Story-N/A
There really is no story to this game, much like some other games I have reviewed, mostly pirate games, I would make up my own silly plot like I did with some other games, But not this time.
Gameplay-8/10
Mario party is well, a party game as the name suggests, there are a ton of different game modes to play in and I will go through all of them one by one, In story mode, you and 3 other computer players compete with eachother through big game boards as you compete to collect the most stars by the end of game, In minigame mode, you can replay any of the minigames that you have unlocked through the story mode, And last but not least, there is minigame island, where once again you and three other computer players are on a map and you must complete each minigame in order to advance through the map. The game has a bunch of crazy game boards, one takes place on a birthday cake, one takes place on a huge island, and so on! The main highlight of the game though, is the multiplayer, In this mode you can play the game with 3 other friends and you can do just quite everything! The minigames, the story mode, yeah, you get the point. There are over 56 minigames in this game, and they are all very fun and enjoyable, They are all categorized by genre, like some minigames are free for all, some have one against three, etc. As for the characters, you can pick from Mario, Luigi, peach, yoshi, donkey Kong, and wario.
Graphics-8/10
This game was released in 1999, and for what it is worth, It looks really really good! All the maps and worlds you will be exploring are big, cartoony, and bursting with color and atmosphere! I mean sure, the N64 was known for having "Blocky" games like smash bros, super Mario 64, etc, But that is the point! Besides, this was a cartridge based system! But anyways, as for the characters, they look really good as well! Mario looks like himself, Luigi looks fine, Peach looks good, Yoshi is cool, and all the other characters look awesome as well! The HUD when playing story mode is pretty self explanatory, All the contestants of the game are shown on the top 4 left corners of the screen, and It also shows you how main coins everyone has and all the stars that they have collected. I really like the level design though, really, Birthday cakes, huge islands, jungles, It is everything you come to expect from Mario!
Sound-7/10
The sound in this game is your typical Mario fare, but that does not mean it is bad! I mean sure all the songs are pretty catchy and all, And that is a really good thing, because this is what we grew up here! All the songs you will be hearing in each level really suit the mood of each level and just prepares for what you are about to encounter. As for the sound effects, they are OK as well, You get everything that you have heard in various Mario games, and that is pretty good as well! Heck, the game even uses character voices! Which means you will get to hear everyone talk every once in a while, and all the characters have great rememberable voices, which is even a bigger plus then usual! Except, some and I say SOME of the songs can get a little repetitive, but it is really no problem! Because the songs thereselves are extremely catchy.
Addictiveness-8/10
You guys should already know how likely I am to ever play this game again, VERY likely! The game just has so much content that it blows my whole mind completely! Whenever I have a sleepover with any of my friends, I always made sure I had this game with me, you know so My friends can know how awesome this game truly is!  In fact, when I first played the first 20 minutes of this game, I got hooked instantly! Because the game is tons of fun and should last you a really really long time.
Depth-9/10
You guys already know, this game is loaded with content and replay value! I mean, so much that your brain will completely explode at how much there is! The story mode consists of 6 main game boards to play through, so that mode with probably take you about 2-4 hours to get through, but the main highlight of the game has got to be the multiplayer, this mode lets you play with 3 of your friends as where you guys can do just about everything the single player lets you do! Story mode, free play mode, mini game island, etc. This is one of those game that will last you so long you won't believe it! A true main staple of the series!
Difficulty-6/10
Now to be honest here, the game is pretty easy, I mean there is a difficulty setting for certain modes, so you can practically adjust how hard you want everything to be! But some minigames are still pretty easy and don't require much skill to get past, but some of those other ones can give you quite a hard time!  And that is OK, because people like me really like a challenge in certain video games, and that is for the best!
Overall-8.2/10
If you need a good game on the N64 that you can play with friends besides smash bros, I highly suggest you go with this one! I mean it has fun, charm, depth, and everything else you come to expect from a Mario game like this! I gave this game a 8.2 because how much fun it is and the amount of content it offers for you, So anyways, just buy this game! You will be highly satisfied! You won't be disappointed, just do it! This has been your favorite reviewer RedHotToddy, and I am signing off!

Mario Party Review and Little Help   Lights
Graphics: The Graphics are amazing while it keeps the movement and gestures/posture in the game fair, the graphics are nice and very well done.
Sound: The sounds are nice when doing mini-games in the boards. I like how the characters sounds Like Mario, Luigi, Wario, and Yoshi whenever they lose in a mini-game its just entertaining.
Addictiveness: For Mario lovers I say the addictiveness in the game is a 9/10! I love how you can play  multiple mini-games in the board while trying to be 1st place in the mini-game to win in the board. Each Mini-game has its own unique features that I enjoy playing.
Story: Well It starts off with a group gathering and Toad wants to find a superstar! While everyone was looking around about with each other Wario said he was a superstar. Donkey Kong decided that he is the superstar and started throwing a tantrum. So this game starts off which 6 characters are good  enough to be superstars. You start off playing with these 6 characters Mario, Luigi, Peach, Yoshi, Wario, and Donkey Kong in outrageous board and atrocious mini-games.
Depth: This game offers a lot. Multiple boards, mini-games, and unlockable. You would need to be number #1 with the character you have chosen in the board. After being chosen you would have to go through Bowsers evil plan in the board. This games also offers more than 100 mini-games including an outrageous adventure with 1 character you have picked.
Difficulty: The difficulty of the game is a difficult you choose from. there are 3 slots to choose from depending on how you want to play the game. Easy, Normal, and Difficult whatever you choose is what the level on how hard the board/mini-games will be. I choose normal so I gave the difficulty a 9/10.
<------- Need Help Also: For people who have played Mario Party 1 there is a boat mini-game and you would need to spin the controller stick around multiple times. I didn't know how to spin the controller stick so I just gave up on mini-games which needs to spin the controller stick.

mario party one review   austipokedude
Now here's a great multiplayer game you can play with your friends.Mario party is perhaps one of the best co-op games I know. But honestly I want to just go ahead and get started.
Graphics:The graphics are great as always. The playable characters looked amazing even the in game environment looks great to tell you the truth.Bowser did look a bit weird looking just like in super mario 64 but if you look at him long enough he does look kinda cute when you think about it.The intro looked great at times and actually switched depending on which stage you used got done finishing but every single one of them were neat and unique they are also worth seeing as the game transfers you to the title screen after completing a stage.
Sounds:The music in this game contains my favorite music ever it gives me a happy feeling just looking at the main intro even though they do argue but that music was actually quite great to tell you the truth it fitted the mood.At times the music made me feel mad at other times it made me feel mad as the music switches between low pitch and high pitch
Addictiveness:This game is my second favorite multiplayer game for it never gets boring to play this game with your friends and family.Yes this is another one of those games that just never get boring no matter how long you play it.
story:There really isn't no story at all but here is how it goes. You play through various stages and win to become the superstar which mario and his friends were arguing over one day.So pick who  you want to be and collect as many stars and coins to progress the game.Yeah the story isn't big but at least it isn't confusing like some other game's story modes.
Depth:In this game you must collect coins to buy minigames so you can play them any time and also must collect stars as well to progress through the game. That is about it it does get pretty repetitive but you got many minigames to hold you over.To tell you the truth the game doesn't offer much but it is very fun to play and very addicting.Trust me you will spend alot of great hours playing this game if not you must really hate the mario party series.
Difficulty:Once again you do have the option to adjust the difficulty per player but depending on how good you are for the minigame depends if it is easy or not but it does lean a bit toward hard though. But the game was easy if you turned on handicaps and gave yourself the upper hand so it is easy and hard at times depending on what you have selected before you entered a stage.
Overall:Great game to play with your friends and I suggest you play on vizzed. The game offers great music and is very addictive but it isn't very big but overall great game I suggest playing this game if you get bored for some reason maybe the happy feeling music will cheer you up a bit.The game got a overall of 9.1 and I recommend you play it even though it is the first for the great series it was a great game and was very fun to play.

Blisters for 4   Slyshiyoshi
Mario Party was possibly one of my first Nintendo 64 games growing up and it's still to this day one of my favorite Game Franchises of all time, albeit a spin off of the Super Mario franchise, but still to this day I enjoy *Most* of the games in this series. Today we'll be looking at one that I've both had a falling out with but have grown a much bigger appreciation for over the years and that's the original Mario Party itself.
The game was originally released on the N64 during early 1999, personally it's what helped grow the series to as big as it is now since the N64 was widely known for having 4 controller ports right out of the box and with the competitors you'd have to get an adapter in order to play Multiplayer with 4 people.
Mario Party's first entry on the list had a bit of controversy during it's hay day however and was infamously attached to it's legacy as a game that caused people to get blisters due to the Analog stick being a rough plastic and some of the Minigames requiring analog rotating which people would use their Palms instead of their thumbs. Due to this, a lawsuit was filed and Nintendo lost, having to give people gloves as compensation for damages and paying a hefty fine. To this day, this is why no new Minigames have any analog rotation which I think was for the better.
Anyways enough chat about what's behind the scenes of the game and get into it.
GRAPHICS
I think one thing that's really charming about the Graphics of Mario Party itself, while the models in the N64 era of Mario Party didn't change all that much, the in game boards were pre-rendered and it helped the boards stand out. The models themselves for characters and non pre-rendered areas in the games (Like the Hub, during Minigames, in extra areas, etc.) Look pretty fine. Some of them can look a bit rough around the edges, mostly in part due to texture work that I think could be easily fixed. Other then that, a pretty solid looking game especially for the time of release.
SOUND
I'm quite in love with the Music and SFX of this game. I guess you could say it's nostalgia talking, but the composition work done here just *can't* be unnoticed. I'd have to say a few of my favorite tracks in the game are Mario's Rainbow Castle, The Mushroom Shop Theme, Luigi's Engine Room, Move to the Mambo, (Sadly cut from the US version) and Wide, Wide Ocean. I would list more, but we'd be here all day. I can't say anything negative about the Music at all. The Sound design is really great as well, capturing just the essence of having a party.
ADDICTIVE
This category pretty much depends on if you're playing with friends or not. If you are playing with Friends, I'd say this is one of the most brutal experiences you can dish out and that's just due to how this Mario Party works over the others. It's still a really fun time however expect your friends to get pissed off at you more then ever if you choose the first game over the other 2 in the 64 line. If you're playing by yourself, that's a bit more tricky.
I think what makes this game great is just the fact that you can have multiple different outcomes and have different experiences with each time you play, however it's much more fun with friends if I'm being honest. The redeeming factor is the Minigame Island where you can put yourself through multiple Minigames until the Finish line. There are other things I would say in the section but it's best left to Depth.
You can even get new unlockable boards for a total of 8 of them which is the only time that one of the Mario Party games has ever achieved such a high number of boards to play on, however you can only buy Magma Mountain after playing on all 6 boards. You have to unlock the other one by collecting 100 Stars which is probably one of the most tedious things the game will put you through.
Coins can be gained by completing a Board Game and other things of the sort and are actually used for Minigames and Items from the Mushroom Shop which is completely fine though the only really noticeable ones are the Blocks that can do a few different effects and appear randomly through your game and some other items that allow you to disable Boo and Koopa. You can turn them off as you please.
STORY
Are you really expecting there to be any actual story to this game? Why are you reading this? You play Mario Party for the game not the Story, but I'll humor you and tell you the Story from what little there is.
Everyone argues about who's the best of their group and Toad tells everyone to stop arguing over it and instead decide to wager a bet by trying to see who would win in a party. Everyone agrees, everyone parties. The End.
The only real other story is that Bowser tries to take over the Eternal Star but that fails. Stop worrying about Story in your damn Mario Party and have fun!
DEPTH
This is where I'll talk more about some of the stuff I didn't in Addictive since they kinda clash with each other and kinda are how to gauge Weather or not you'll enjoy the game as a whole.
One of the key things is that this game while a Party game is also somewhat of a strategy game when you'll have to plan out what your next move is and you can also try to plan for Bonus Stars. They only have 3 in this game and only 3, so if you strategize enough you can prevent others from getting them. You could also just turn them off BUT who actually plays with them off, that's basically a cardinal sin.
There are also Minigames, which some are actually skill based and some are just pure luck. Just try your hardest and practice them out of you need to stretch your Minigame muscles.
These aspects aren't the only bits of the game that are important. but by far are the most important ones. The Boards also have their own mechanics and work differently from each other so it's a good idea to keep aware of what Happening Spaces do.
The biggest thing that everyone remembers from this game is Chance Time. These can pretty much range from small effects to completely game changers. They are the most efficient way to screw over your friend.
Overall there are just so many outcomes that can happen in this game that it's impossible to pin down a guaranteed way to win because it can usually be decided purely by luck. That's what makes this game just purely unique. It has so many varied elements and it's not going to be the same each time.
DIFFICULTY
I think this game is particularly more brutal then all the other Mario Party games as some of the games as mentioned are Stick Rotating Minigames which can easily cost your palm, but other games are luck based and you'll have to chance it out. One of the most prominent things about this game which only happened in this Mario Party is that there are games which you can lose your coins.
While the Minigames are kinda the bane of some peoples' existences I do think that the board game aspect itself isn't exactly difficult though there is a bit of a huge learning curve if you're wanting to master this game and "Get Good" as they say. I think you can really chalk this up to personal opinion. I think this game does have some tough spots though.
OVERALL...
While my least favorite of the N64 Trilogy, I still think it is a good game with some flaws that did get fixed in the next entry. My main problem is how rough this game seems in comparison to the other game in the series. There are just better games that fix the issues of this one and it makes looking back at this game really hard for me.
One thing I learned to appreciate though is that it's kinda what makes the game stand out, not in the best way though it has it's gimmick and it sticks to it pretty damn well. I'm still glad I own this game. It's a part of my childhood and I don't think I'd be as big of a fan of the series now if I didn't have it.

A Party of Mario!   pacman1755
Today, I'm going to review the very hated, yet beloved, Mario Party! It's loved since it would be the beginning of countless ports for more than 15 years into the future. Can't believe it is going to be that far into the series of Party games already. Well, we are going to review the one that started it all, and there are some points to go through about the game. So, let's get right into it.
Difficulty: 7
The difficulty can be graded from Easy, Normal, and Hard to the CPU, if you're playing by yourself. There is some difficulty between the maps or boards you play as well from DK's Jungle Adventure, Peach's Birthday Cake, Yoshi's Tropical Island, Wario's Battle Canyon, Luigi's Engine Room, Mario's Rainbow Castle, Bowser's Magma Mountain, to the hidden map Eternal Star, which can only be unlocked if you do a specific requirement. Yeah, the Party game has somewhat of a story, but I guess it doesn't count. I'll tell you when I'm in the Story category. There's also up to 56 mini games, from 4 player free for all, 2 vs. 2, 1 vs. 3, and even 1 player games, it can go pretty much anywhere. It has its share of difficult games as well, depending on what input you do, such as the infamous Analog rotation. It is said that many people sued Nintendo since it severely hurt their child's hands as the skin started to burn off by doing this, and Nintendo gave all of them a special "glove" for them to have to relieve the pain on those games. Besides those, you shouldn't have much problem playing these games.
Depth: 5
The game doesn't have "Depth" per-se, but getting through each mini-game, unlocking everything, and the Mini Game Island optional quest, it has some length to offer. It can take a little bit since it requires you to play each games to get to the very end in a pathway for the Mini Game Island, and for unlocking the mini games for free to play access, you need to play a lot of Adventure Mode and earn coins. The more coins you earn, they go to your "bank" and you can buy items and blocks, and games. Besides that, there's nothing worth noting to offer.
Story: N/A
This is a party game. There is no story worth noting. Until you earn 100 Power stars and play each Board at least once, your bank that keeps your stars would be robbed by Bowser himself, and he has taken off to the Eternal Star. If you win the Board, you stop Bowser from getting away with all the power stars and repair the giant star you're playing on, the Eternal Star. Do that, and Bowser and his Koopa Kids will be blasted into space. That's the only story you'll get. I don't really count it as a story, though.
Addictiveness: 9
This game is a guilty pleasure of mine since I grew up with the original trilogy when I was younger with my N64. I have so much fun with the simplicity of the game, and the mini games even more. It keeps me entertained, especially playing with my best friends growing up. I guess you can say the peeling skin of my hand was worth it in the end. :P
Sound: 8
The music in the game is relaxing. The game has each characteristic depending on what map you're on, and what kind of mini game you're in. If it's something of platforming, an athletic theme kicks on, if it's a dark and mysterious game, an eerie theme kicks on. It's very atmospheric, and fits the mood of each game and board. Sound effects, not worth noting, it's as simple as you'll get. Voice acting? There's a little. Wario's legendary D'OH I MISSED, and everyone else's chants were pretty much on the money. Unless you're playing the Japanese version and Luigi and Wario say OH MY GOD. But that's just hilarious to me. Everything is pretty good, nonetheless.
Graphics: 8
There isn't much to say about the character models in this game, it's the simplistic 3-D models of Mario, Luigi, Wario, DK, Yoshi, and Peach. But what gets the rating an 8 is the board details. It's quite amazing to just look at each board, especially boards like Yoshi's Tropical Island, and Mario's Rainbow Castle. The colors pop out, and you really feel like you're in the area it's representing. I could gush more about the music, more so on Mario's Rainbow Castle Theme but you can take a listen yourself. Again, it fits the mood, and you feel like you're not playing a board game at times.
Overall: 8.5
The beginning of the Mario Party series overall, is not the beginnings of most big series are, like clunky and just a test on what they can do. This game brought everything, and delivered. That's why they were successful. It's quite amazing, and I can't say that enough. Does it hold up to today's standards? To me, it does. Some of the mechanics are dated, but everything else about the game still holds the nostalgic feeling in my heart. I love it. If you haven't checked it out, you should give it a try, but I would recommend a game controller for it. Have fun!
