The Immortal is a classic in my eyes for the Genesis, it's an awesome spin of RPG and adventure mixed with some excellent isometric graphics with a lot challenge.
The plot goes how you've reached this ancient valley and see it all in ruins due to dragons. Now you have to find your master and explore the mysterys of this labyrinth while killing the monsters in the ancient temple.
The game as I already said plays like an isometric RPG, you as a wizard can dodge, slash, or disarm the traps or monsters that lie in the labyrinth. And there's going to be a lot of the traps which sets up the hard traps. You have traps ranging from arachnids or fireball cannons. It can get a bit frustrating since a bit of the game focuses on trial and error. There are a bunch of puzzles in Immortal which are many items being placed around. Some of the items can have some very strange combination's and that some items have to be used at a specific place or else they're gone. Now for the combat, it's you using the items you have to kill the foes while you can run away from them too.
A bit of a gripe with the combat is that you have to dodge the enemys attacks while trying to think up a plan. While it just has you pressing the A button while moving left or right until the enemy stops attacking and this can get REAL old considering how there's only around two bosses and five enemies. What DOESN'T get old is the death scenes in the game which was a bit brutal you have random deaths like exploding heads, decapitating a trolls head, and much much more. The corpse even stays there after you're done the graphics for Immortal makes it even more gruesome.
There is a lot of splattering noises for the sound however many of the death scenes has no sound with a thud being the only thing there. However the music is a bit decent but Immortals medieval soundtrack doesn't really have a lot to him. However the big part of the game is the graphics which are very impressive for Genesis standards, with the whole isometric backround. And once again the death scenes are graphically excellent.
Overall, The Immortal is an impressive RPG for Genesis. It might be a bit stale for a while, but I think it's a fun filled RPG.
Final Score: 8/10
