My Ice Climber review gamerforlifefor..
The year was 1985, and Nintendo was planning on making a new video game franchise known as Ice Climber, which is about an eskimo kid whacking enemies with a mallet and climbing mountains. It may not be anywhere near as well known as Mario, Pokemon, or The Legend of Zelda, but it's a good game regardless. How good do I think this game really is? Well, I will now tell you by making this new review, enjoy!
Graphics: 7/10 The graphics for Ice Climber is pretty good, even though it has a black background. The different sections of the mountain are colored differently which I think is pretty neat, instead of having it all be one color. The character designs also look very nice for a mid 1980's game. Overall, I think that Ice Climber has pretty nice graphics. For that reason, I'm giving the graphics a 7.
Sound: 5/10 Ice Climber has an okay soundtrack. I guess the music is kinda catchy, but it's nowhere near as catchy as other classics from around that time like Super Mario Bros soundtrack. Also, Ice Climber music is not memorable at all. The only way I'd recognize the music is if I were to start playing the game again. Overall, Ice Climber does have an okay soundtrack, therefore I'm giving the soundtrack for Ice Climber a 5.
Addictiveness: 8/10 Ice Climber is a pretty addicting game that you'll want to play a lot of times so that you can try and beat your high score. Climbing the mountains and beating up the enemies with your mallet is very satisfying. Also there's plenty of replay value because there's always a way for you to improve your high score, and since this game has great gameplay, you'll be wanting to get that new high score badly. For these reasons, I'm giving the addictiveness an 8.
Story: N/A Ice Climber really doesn't have much of a story. For that reason, I'm leaving this category blank.
Depth: 7/10 In Ice Climber, there are a total of 32 mountains for you to conquer, and those mountains are not easy for you to beat, so if you want to conquer all the mountains the game has to offer, then Ice Climbers will keep you busy for a long time. While there are games with more levels to beat than there are in this game, I say there's more than enough content in this game for me to give Ice Climber's depth a 7.
Difficulty: 9/10 Ice Climber can be a very difficult game because the mountains can be very slippery (ICE is in the title after all), and jumping onto platforms can be very tricky. The reason for this is because even though you're able to make high jumps, you barely able to move in a certain direction in the middle of your jump, which makes the bonus stages especially difficult. Ice Climber is a game that will test your skills as a gamer. Because the game is so hard, I'm giving the difficulty a 9.
Overall Score: 7/10 While Ice Climber may not be as good of a game as Mario 1 & 3, or Legend of Zelda, It's still a really good video game that people who are a fan of arcade style gaming should definitely try out at least once in their lifetime. It's got good graphics for an early 80's game, a good amount of levels, very addicting gameplay, and it provides a good challenge. Ice Climber may not be one of the very best titles on the NES, I think that it's still good enough to recieve a 7 out of 10 from me. I hope you enjoyed this review.

Ice Climbers Review Zircron Swift
Some of the games on the NES were popular at the time, but wasn't remembered as much as other titles. These sort of games come back as nostalgic moments and suddenly, they become popular again. Games like Kid Icarus and Ice Climbers were like this. Some make sequels, some don't. Ice Climbers never had a sequel, but was re-released several times over on different formats. Some of these games are often over seen and under noticed for what they really are. So how does this game fair? Get your booties 'cus it's cold out there. Lets look at Ice Climbers.
There isn't much story. The game is more arcade orientated and those normally don't have a story. There is one, but not that gripping. The ice climbers, Popo and Nana, are climbing up a mountain to retrieve stolen vegetables from an evil condor. Why a condor wants to steal vegetables is beyond me. How the ice climbers got the vegetables is another question.....unless if they don't live in the Arctic. But I digress. You venture through 32 different stages to get the vegetables. As this is arcade orientated, when you get to the end, you start at mountain 01 after 32. You can even select the stage you want from the very beginning in the same way Wrecking Crew for the NES did.
An odd thing is the game side scrolls up, not along. Very few side scrolling games did this at the time. It makes sense, as you are climbing a mountain. The level is split up into eight different layers. You start at layer one, of course. You make your way up to layer eight by smashing blocks above your head with your hammer. You have to watch out for birdies and icicles that might fall on your head. These can be destroyed by smashing them with your hammer. Sometimes, in future levels, you need to wait for a cloud to pass by in order to get further. Quite often you'll miss that cloud and have to wait for another one. I pass the time by holding down the B button so Popo continuously is whacking his hammer around. Isn't that adorable? ^^ It's like he's trying to be serious. I sometimes like to say "RAGE!" when doing this.
If you fall below the bottom of the screen (often when you go up a layer or two+), you'll lose a life. If you do, you'll go back to the layer you were once on. Awww, how nice ^^ You don't have to start all over again if you die. An annoying thing in levels is that when you make a hole just the right size for you to go through, one of these fur ball yeti's will fill it up with some ice before you get the chance to jump through it.....RAGE! *holds down B* Although I love getting my own back by smacking them on the head, and they'll scurry away. Aww, they are quite cute when they do that.....WHAO! Was that a polar bear wearing some Hawaii shorts in shades? What the hell does he do? Odd clothing for a polar bear in the freezing mountains.
When you make it passed layer eight, you'll be in the bonus round. this is your chance to get all the vegetables that dastardly condor stole from you. Just collect it and get to the peak before the time runs out. Sounds simple. But the controls are a little slippery and stiff at the same time. As you skid on the floor a bit, you could fall off the platforms. But jumping makes it hard to get there as you have to be right next to the cliff to make it effectively. This makes the bonus stage harder than it sounds. At the peak is that evil condor - whose crimes should give him the right to be hanged by a flaming noose - holding a vegetable. You need to take it from his very talons and the bonus stage is completed. Take that! If you fail at the bonus stage, you'll move on to the next stage.
At first, the first five or six stages are fun to play. They introduce a new type of footing, that moves you in the direction that the arrows point. This adds a level of skill needed to get through that hole you made and....NOOO! I just made that hole you vile yeti.....RAGE! *holds down B* But the levels get incredibly linear and very repetitive as you play. You'll notice That the same level is used, but a floor is missing on a layer, or the floor has the moving footing on a certain layer. The level design is poor in the aspect of keeping things interesting. I found myself give up on stage 16 and went straight to stage 32. That's what happens if you give the player instant level select.
The graphics are nice and adorable, but the background remains black for the most part (turning into a star-filled night at the bonus stage), which makes a poor background in any situation. The music is limited, but it is good. Although there isn't much music for the most part of the level, when you get to the bonus stage, the theme song pops up and gets you in a mood to get those stolen vegetables. But it does get a little annoying after a while.
Overall, I give this game a 7.1/10 Quite frankly, I find this game boring. The game play is linear and repetitive after a while and I lose interest after a while. That being said, it is a fairly challenging, has good music, and a lot of cute enemies in it. Completing a bonus stage is not an easy task, and I'm mostly pleased when I do it properly. But even then, it doesn't seem worth it for the bonus stage in itself. I wouldn't mind seeing a sequel to this game, I would even look forward to playing it if it came out, but I can understand why people didn't take much notice of it, but still was popular among fans.

Ice Climber Review Marcmoney

Ice Climbers is a great NES game. I remember playing this about a year ago playing it about everyday, till I got bored of it. It is the first Ice Climber series game ever made. Another thing I would do for this game is play it when I have extra time in the morning before I go to school. This game is a lot of fun. It is also a great way to play with friends in 2-player mode.
Graphics - 8
The graphics are very good for an NES game. The levels that were made in the game is not challenging, but does get a little hard in some of the mountains. It has good quality on the enemies and your avatar. The weirdest thing is that if you die, you spin down the mountain in white. That is weird, but okay. :P
Sound - 8
The sound brings back the past. The way you jump, the way you die, and the way you attack. It is like a mixture of Mario and Pacman. The background sound is just like the theme for Ice Climber. Very good for that. :)
Addictiveness - 6
Like I said, I would play this everyday, but right now, I do not play it as much as I did in the past. Trying out the hard levels can get you into the game trying to beat it. :)
Story - N/A
There is no story in this game. All you have to do is get to the top of the mountain and catch the bird that is there. Can be difficulty to do, especially with the controls.
Depth - 5
The game does not have a lot of features. All it has is 2-player mode and just 32 good mountain levels. If only there were secret levels, that would be cool.
Difficulty - 4
The controls are the only thing that I hated in this game. When you jump, you have to get it at the right time because sometimes the Ice Climber will go through the block a little. I am used to it so I know when to jump. What is bad for 2-player mode is that you have to stay close to each other. If one of the players is too low on the screen and the other played gets higher, the other player from the bottom will die, so I recommend trying to do the same pace. Another thing would be trying to get on the platforms that are moving. Some move so fast that you have to jump at the right moment.
Wrap Things Up...
Ice Climber is very popular, it is in Super Smash Brothers Melee and Brawl. I think they should make another game for Ice Climbers because they can last a little while longer. I recommend trying this game, I guarantee that you will love it if you like playing arcade games or if you are an Ice Climber fan. :)
