Background: Donkey Kong Jr. was a game released by Nintendo in 1982. It is the sequel to Donkey Kong, and stars Junior, his son. This also happens to be one of two games in which Mario is the villain (the other being Donkey Kong Circus). Gameplay: Players become DK Jr. Using left and right while grounded allows Junior to run, while using up or down on vines allows Junior to cover distance. He can jump and climb effortlessly, using one vine to descend abruptly, and utilize two to ascend quickly. The goal in most of the levels revolve around getting a key to free DK, while avoiding Mario and his goons. There are three types of enemies, Snapjaws, Nitpickers, and Sparks. Red Snapjaws are slow and smart, patrolling the area and challenging Junior's skill, While Blue Snapjaws are stupid and only descend in one direction. Nitpickers can fly absurdly fast, descending to the bottom of the screen to kill Junior. Sparks are chaotic and automated, following a set path and attacking on arrival. All three mean death.  Fruits help, as dropping them kills your enemies. The first stage is quite simplistic, you just climb the vines and reach DK, while avoiding the Snapjaws and falling. The second stage involves using springs to propel yourself into the air while using vines to climb and avoid Nitpickers. The third stage involves climbing while utilizing jumping to avoid Sparks and getting to the top. The final stage involves climbing chains to push up six keys to the top, while avoiding Snapjaws and Nitpickers. Its an acquired taste in platforming. 8/10  Graphics: For a game released in 1982, the graphics are breathtaking. Mario's whip-cracks, Junior's vine shimmying, DK's grunting and growling while in a cage.... Its all very good. Definitely impressive. 8/10Sound: The music, while repetitive, is adequate. The sound effects shine as everything has charming and appropriate sound effects to go with it. 8/10Addictiveness:  The game is decent, yet amusing. If you are a fan of frantic platforming, you might want to play again. 6/10Story: Not too much of one, actually. Junior has to save his father from Mario. 2/10Depth: For a game made in 1982, the game has some depth. Though its generally vine-climbing and jumping. 6/10Difficulty: The game is actually somewhat difficult, due to jump physics and enemy placement. 6/10Overall: Donkey Kong Junior is quite good, with superb platforming action. Play if you want something worth your time or if you're a fan of platforming games in general.  8.2/10
