Muffin Reviews Superhot. Hello and welcome to my review of the game Superhot. It’s the first game on my 2019 list so lets head straight to the review shall we?
Superhot is a action/fps game where you have to defeat enemies. The gimmick to the game is that time moves when you move. So you can for example see bullets slowly coming towards you at super slow motion then as soon as you move they become normal speed. When you clear the stage it then shows you a replay of the whole level but in real time.
GraphicsThe graphics in Superhot are very minimalist, Every single non-interactive object such as set pieces and backgrounds are white, Whilst weapons are black and enemies are red. Its simplicity in its design makes it easy to pick up and play, whilst still being visually appealing at the same time.
During the story elements of the game you’re basically looking at a very early and basic chat room. So it sticks to the very simple aesthetic throughout the game.
SoundThere is actually not a whole lot of sound in this game. Most of it is just sound effects such as the firing of guns or the typing of a keyboard, or even the ever constant chanting of “Superhot”. The only thing of note is that there is no ammo counter for your weapons so they use sound cues to tell you that it’s out of ammo. Which is actually more useful than it sounds.
StoryThe story is very basic and tries to be interesting but for me I never really got invested in it. The story is basically the game trying to get you to convince others to play the game and to throw away your humanity to join the games hive mind/core. The objectives for nearly every mission is the same thing also.. Kill the bad guys.
DepthDespite the main story probably taking a couple of hours to beat for the average gamer there is actually a lot of depth and re-playability to the game, It mostly consists of challenge modes and an endless mode as well. However as it’s basically the same as the main game. If you got bored of that the extras won’t really extend the time played at all.
DifficultyI personally found the game rather easy, Especially when you figure out that jumping in the game is rather broken and makes it a lot easier for the AI to not hit you. Besides that it’s still challenging enough to be fun. Also the enemies don’t always spawn in the same order or with the same weapons, so for those who do find the game hard it’s not as simple as trial and error.
Final ThoughtsSuperhot is one of those “one and done” games. You play it once have a semi decent experience and then never play it again. The very simple design and gameplay make the game easy to pick up and play but it also gets stale rather fast as well.
Personally I would only recommend this game if it comes on offer.
