Spider-Man - Mysterio's Menace   marcus047
Game Background-  This game is probably one of the less main stream spiderman games when it comes to the villains that were selected to be part of this game. The game shines a light on some of spiderman's generally unknown arch enemy's such as Rhino,Big weel, Scorpion, Hammer Head, Electro , and Mysterio. The thing what sets this game apart from other spiderman games in the franchise is all the boss battle's story's each intertwine  with one another and are all connected into the over all plot/scheme that was planned and executed by the main villain, Mysterio. There aren't many stages to play, there are only 7 stages, but what it lacks in depth it makes up for in story and dialog(cut scenes), and graphics(appearance wise). On a side note there are collectibles you can find/look for threw-out the game and also every boss and stage has their own set of customized minions, just a heads up there is clown minions so any one with a phobia of clowns beware.
Graphics-The character design(body wise) on both spider man and his arch foe's are amazing and very well descriptive for its time, although the facial graphics are horrible and some what hard to make out other than spiderman's. The level design goes into a lot of detail with scenery and different background item's and are generally long and maze like but details are easily seen and recognizable on what they are and are meant to be.The regular enemy's goons/gangsters are very descriptive and go in to detail with the guns they hold and their suits and t-shirts as well but still have horrible lacking in individualized, diverse face design. So for graphics I gave the game a 9 out of 10 , because while the games character design(body wise), and level layout design was incredible and distinctively descriptive, the facial part of the character design was lacking in description  and was a disappointment.
Sound- The sound was well above satisfactory level. The sound track changes with each stage and also during cut scene's as well as boss battle's. The characters talk when they get hit by you or if you get hit by them either by bullets or by fists. Every thing has it's own distinct sound like for water, guns being fired(either if its a regular gun of flamethrower or frost beam), when you lose, when you defeat a boss, and also spiderman's spidey sense. The pitch and acoustics were spot on, they shifted right were they needed to be giving the game that overall feel that your actually spiderman and it basically helped you feel like you were part of the action. So for sound I gave the game a 10 out of 10.
Addictiveness- Well this game is highly addictive because of its overwhelming well thought out story and plot. Also because of it's ability to keep the gamer interested in playing the game and seeing the game through to the end. Partially why I was so addicted to it was because it offered players to fight some of spirderman's not so well known enemy's and get to known a little bit of background on them. As far as replay value goes this game has plenty replay value because it wasn't very long and didn't drag the story out longer than what it needed to be, also it has plenty of dialog in the cut scene's so that you can get a grasp of the story that the game tells. So for addictiveness I gave the game a 10 out of 10.
Story-The story although it is short,it has excellent dialog with a really good flowing plot structure. Every crime each boss commits does connects to the over all plan/scheme concocted by Mysterio(the main antagonist) and the story explains it's self nicely in a neat organized manner that actually makes perfect sense if you read the cut scene's. Basically it goes like this,Rhino is at the docks packaging shipments of some high end equipment, which he then ships it to hammerhead which is setting it up all around key parts of downtown to where he escapes and you chase him down. Overall the infamous Mysterio is conspiring/influencing the  other criminals into coming together with him to carry out his plan to plot the downfall of spiderman and New York City. So for story I gave the game a 10 out of 10.
Depth- While the game physically(how many levels/stages there actually is)  doesn't make the game very long, but the levels them self are incredibly long. The game doesn't take very long to beat, I estimate a time of 2-4 day's if you play it about an hour or two for each day. It doesn't have a considerable amount of things to do(besides playing though the game and beating the bosses) but you can find collections and power ups threw-out making it some what longer. So overall for depth I gave the game a 6 out of 10.
Difficulty-The controls and fighting maneuvers in this game play a key part in difficult, as well as your reflexes and ability to execute fast  reactions to quick events. Some of the bosses require little to no effort to beat(which is basically one out of the six) and the others are incredibly hard to beat and have seem to have a good move set with nearly perfect fighting maneuvers with little gaps in defense. The computer doesn't seem to be another brain dead A.I.  that makes constant mistakes. So for difficulty I gave the game a 8 out of 10.
Overall- Over all between the games excellent well thought out story, greatly programmed character(body) and stage/level design graphics, and sound the game is a pleasure to play and experience, but it does have its flaws like character facial design, it doesn't save like regular games, when you win(beat a level) or fail (lose a level) the game gives you a password you have to enter in main menu if you quit in order to resume the game instead of the usual save slot. But overall I gave the game a 9.6 out of 10, because even though it has it's minor issues it's still a excellent game, well worth the time and viz to play.

Spider-Man Nostalgia   EiyuuShizuka
Ahh, Spider-Man - Mysterio's Menace... I used to play this game a lot. I used to think that it was absolutely fantastic and I had beaten it numerous times.Don't get me wrong. This game isn't terrible, but it definitely will never live up to what I saw it as younger at the age of about 5 or 6. So let me just go in depth on each category and you all can make out what your own score is, and then I will tell you mine.
Spider-Man - Mysterio's Menace has some awkward combat. The punches are very short range and you have no useful projectile weapons (the Web ball and web... tie up thing don't count as most every enemy you would want to kill dodge these or are not harmed by them). The melee combat is almost as bad as Legend of Kage for the NES. I'll rate a 2/10 on combat, but the rating system doesn't have that, so moving on.
Next: the graphics. The animation looks actually very fluent... on spider-man... The enemies on the other hand, their animation is sloppy and choppy. The graphics though, on the other hand are over-all unapealing. Now, I realize the limitations of the GBA, but they can at least look apealing. Minecraft for instance doesn't have outstanding graphics, but it looks apealing and colorful to the eye. This game's color scheme just looks odd and all over the place. The animation is top notch, but the graphics look like something you would find on an SNES game, especially the enemies. I'll rate Graphics 4/10, but graphics don't make a game better, do they? No.
The sound, on the other hand, is actually not bad, but gets bumped down on the 5 second repeat music on every level. It's different all the time, but it's just a 5 second loop at best. The SFX aren't bad for the time, thought, so I'll give it a 6/10.
Now: Addictiveness. This game gets really repetative and the only reason I would EVER pick it up again is for the nostalgia. I'll rate it a 3/10.
Now for story. It... is aweful. The only way to sum it up is how the game begins: You are on the daring task to... get Mary Jane a stupid fish bowl. Yeah. It never does go enywhere up from that. 2/10.
Now for depth. It's certainly not long but there are hidden secrets that may get you to pick up the game for another half-hour to find. It also does have secret areas and unlockables and a surprising amount of power-ups given the material they have. Sadly, the score is brought down by the lack of actual general length of the game. 4/10.
Lastly the difficulty. Oh... My... GOD! This game was no doubt made for kids at least a bit. They would be the only super hero fans... well... some adults are but mostly kids. The game isn't MegaMan or NES BatMan hard, but for the community it's supposed to appeal to, it is very relentless, even on easy mode. The difficulty doesn't even change a whole lot on difficulty switches, just your health bar and enemies'. There are a lot of instant death pits and large gaps which can only be crossed with a web swing, and if you've run out, you're screwed. I get that it's supposed to be faithful to the comics, but if you want to be that faithful where if you use some attacks or web swings too much and you get stuck, either make web swinging unlimited, or don't have instant death pits everywhere. What, did peter just forget to bring extra web? I wouild think he would come prepared to fight super villains. Also, there are no common health powerups, only about two in each level. Also, crouching is awkward. It is very delayed and you don't just crouch, you go to a crouching mode that is gotten out of not by releasing down, but pressing up! Also, you are automatically in this crouching mode if you are crawling on a wall and go on to an upright surface or if you jump from too high of a height. I copuld go on and on about how hard this game is and why, but you should just try this game for yourself and experience it. Overall Difficulty is an 8/10, WHICH IS A BAD THING, because remember, I am rating the difficulty off of who the game was meant for, which was 5-9 year olds. If you are a hardcore gamer or an adult, you could probably easily beat the game.
Overall score: 4.5/10. Slightly below average. It... just play it for yourself and see why.
It's not aweful, but it is NOT good. Only hardcore Spider-Man fans should play this.
