One of the Greatest games I have seen on PS1 DragonSlayer22
Amazing.This is another game I personally own and still have to this day, just like some of my other games I have on my PlayStation, unlike the original Myst I have on my old PC, this one mostly stands out. Why? IT COMES ON 5 DISCS.Yes, you heard me right, when you open the disc box you have to watch out that all of the discs don't fly at you. To start I will talk about the look of the game.Graphics: 9 The game looks amazing, especially on the PlayStation 1, yes, it plays like a slideshow, with frame-by-frame movement, but the animations on things like water makes it look really good, this game had the graphics down to the smallest rock or pixel on screen and at a 640x480 resolution it still looks great today.Sound: 8 The game's audio makes you feel immersed into the 5 islands of Riven, with even the smallest bug or water animation it sounds realistic, almost PlayStation 2-like.
Addictiveness: 8 The game is still fun to play to this day and will keep you for hours figuring out puzzles and tricks that are mandatory for you to continue to the next area. The game is a bit hard though, which I will bring up later.
Story: 7 The story leaves you off where the original
Myst ended which, spoilers if you didn't play the game, starts with you and Atrus as he finished his newest book titled
Riven, where he wants you to save his wife, Katherine and stop his crazy Grandfather named Ghen from taking over the islands of
Riven.
Depth: 8 As I mentioned earlier, the game will keep you hooked for hours discovering puzzles and reading books and going from island to island via some kind of train system.
Difficulty: 9 This game is near impossible to do without a walk through, I got LOST my first time playing the game, because it is SO huge. There is no manual to come with the game so you are on your own. Also there are some hard parts in the game that involve you to decode things that are really hard unless you know EXACTLY what you are doing, or else you will not get to Ghen's Laboratory, a major part of the game.
To say the least, this game is fun to play, but hard to play and will get you lost, the puzzles in the game are head-scratching and will get you confused. The game is around $5 online and should be around $6 to $8 in store if you can find all 5 discs for the game.
