Mortal Kombat 3 (Sega Master System)   kenneth$3
Hello people and I am going to review Mortal Kombat 3 for the Sega Master System.   Will this be a good port of Mortal Kombat 3 or not?
Read the review to find out.
Graphics - 4
Oh boy....these graphics on the Sega Master System port of Mortal Kombat 3 are bland.  The backgrounds (on the three stages in this port) are not very colorful; however, the characters actually look alright for the Master System.  In short, the graphics are below average.  (I know it's impossible to expect 100% arcade graphics on a Master System, but they could've done a bit better here).   The animations are not that great, either; in fact, the running animation looks like the characters are power walking rather than running (so the animations are also below average).  However, that's not the worst of this port's flaws.
Sound - 3
Ugh....the sound on this Sega Master System port of Mortal Kombat 3 is pretty bad (maybe even awful).  Now, the U.S. Version of the Sega Master System didn't have a particularly great soundtrack to begin with most of the time, but this is a bit inexcusable.  I mean, even Sonic the Hedgehog 1 and 2 on the Sega Master System actually had GOOD soundtracks, as opposed to this bad-awful sound that Mortal Kombat 3 on the Sega Master System produces.  (Yes, they've could tried a lot harder here).  Not to mention, there's only maybe TWO or THREE soundtracks at most!   I mean, it barely sounds like Mortal Kombat 3 on the Sega Master System here.  (Yes, I know it's impossible to expect arcade perfect sound on a Sega Master System, but the entirety of the soundtrack on the Sega Master System of Mortal Kombat 3 is really repetitive and very bland).
Story - 7
I can't say that the story of Mortal Kombat 3 is that bad; however, it is the same as all the other ports of Mortal Kombat 3 and you don't even get pictures!  The characters (all 9 of them) do have their bios and stuff; however, that isn't REALLY going to matter, because I'm getting around to the depth and difficulty ratings of this port and why this port is a mediocre-at-best port.
Depth - 3
Oh boy.....this is going to be a good one to explain.   Now, you have 9 characters in the Sega Master System port of Mortal Kombat 3 (as opposed to the arcade, of which you had 15 characters) which you MIGHT be thinking whether you should get this port of Mortal Kombat 3 or not.  Those characters are: Smoke, Sektor, Cyrax, Sub-Zero, Sonya, Sindel, Sheeva, Kano and Kabal.  Believe me, that is not the reason why I gave the depth a 3 to this port.  No, the reason why I gave the depth a 3 to this port is because of it's lackluster endings (seriously, no pictures, just TEXT) and the fact that you can just jump kick everybody to death without too much resistance (even Shao Kahn is affected by the jump kick strategy).  I suppose you COULD just spam Sheeva's teleport stomp to infinity, but that brings up another flaw to this game: the stupid, yet cheap A.I (which I will talk more about that in the difficulty section of this review).   The fatalities are very bland as well; they involve either exploding and freezing or are just bland-looking in general.
Difficulty - 5
You might be asking, "how difficult is the Sega Master System port of Mortal Kombat 3"?   Let me answer that: it can both frustrating AND easy.  Let me explain that; on one hand, if you fight normally, you're going to LOSE (every single time).  It's as simple as that.  On the other hand, if you pick Sheeva and do her teleport stomp to infinity or do jump kicks (or roundhouses, they work too), you're going to WIN (every single time).  Oh yeah, the controls are not great, either (actually, the controls are pretty mediocre, come to think about it).   I mean, the controls are not AS bad, as say Altered Beast for the Sega Master System, but you probably will have a bit of trouble pulling off special moves.  (OK, fine; the control is not as bad as some of the other ports of the Mortal Kombat games.  I mean, you can pull off special moves with enough time and effort).  Here's the funny thing, though: the A.I. is stupid, yet cheap (meaning the A.I. will manage to pull off special moves effortlessly, while the A.I. is very weak to jump kicks and heavy abuse of Sheeva's teleport stomp).  I mean, I had to be consistently cheap as hell and/or do jump kicks consistently just to have a chance of beating this port of Mortal Kombat 3.  (Let me tell something; I'm not a total fan of Mortal Kombat 3 to begin with; but this port makes me want to run back to the arcade version, where at least you could have fun there).  Here, even if I did TRY to play this port with somebody here, I probably would not have any fun at all (and the other player would probably quit).
Addictiveness: 2
With it's lame-looking fatalities, it's stupid, yet cheap A.I., it's somewhat mediocre controls, it's bland graphics, it's decent story (probably the only decent thing about this port) and it's bad-awful music, I would never play the Sega Master System port of Mortal Kombat 3 again in the future (maybe as a thing for YouTube, but not in the near-future).
Overall - 3
Overall, I would not recommend buying this game for any more than maybe five to ten bucks at most.
