Gravity Falls: Legend of the Gnome Gemulets Review by: zanderlex - 8/10
Attack The Shack!I have been waiting for this game forever, and I really mean it. Way back when Rumbles Revenge came out on the Disney site way back during season one, I kept telling myself that I wanted an actual game. I kept saying that one day a 3DD RPG would be amazing and then BOOM, a few months ago the game was announced and here it is. It isn't exactly what I wanted since it's a platformer but it's pretty sweet.
The game has all the charm of the show and then some more. After just playing the game for a few minutes, I was asking myself why weren't some of the dialogue in an episode? The dialogue was amazing, each character must have said dozens of different things that you would expect them to say in the show and some of the things that they say are just soooo amusing. Here's are some random quotes by Robbie.
"Are you admiring the whole early 2000's goth thing I've got going on? Well yeah I know its over, I'm waiting for it to come back!"
"I see you checking out my fingerless gloves. Fingers are so 2001."
I love all of the character and setting placement because you literally see everything from the show. You pretty much see every character, human or creature doing something they have done in the show and there's all sorts of props from the show as well, buildings, items, you name it and its there. That's one of the reasons I like the game so much because I get to actually explore everything and laugh a heck of a lot.
GRAPHICS 8/10
The graphics are good and look pretty much like they came right out of the show, but the animations could have had some work done on them because sometimes they get a little statiky. So much detail had been put into the game, the shack looks just like it would in the show, the town looks a lot like how it would, and even the bus that we have only seen like twice is there with all of its detail. The background looks amazing too, sometimes you will see some of the down or forest behind you and sometimes some scary creature or something. Overall, it looks so much like the show and is really fun to look at and for a grade, it's going to get an 8 out of 10.
SOUND 7/10
As for the sound, there are good parts and bad parts to it. First lest go over the bad parts, one of which is that there's no voice acting. Of course, the actors at busy and probably just were not able to play a part in the game but being able to listen to the characters say their hilarious lines would have been amazing. Another bad aspect is that the normal in game music doesn't always resemble real gravity falls music, it just sounds like regular video game music at times and doesn't make me think of the show but its still good to listen to. Now for some of the good parts, the in game sounds make it seem like you're actually in the woods and the gravity falls theme does play. The theme plays on the menu and in the credits so there's finally a reason to watch the credits of a game. Thanks to the theme, this aspect is going to get a 7 out of 10.
ADDICTIVENESS 9/10
Why wouldn't the game be addicting? Of course if you are not a fan of the show, then you would probably just treat this as any other game, but even so, you would still have a great time thanks to all the laughs. If you are a fan of the show though, this will be the greatest thing ever. Who wouldn't want to play as dipper and Mabel and go on some sort of an awesome adventure? The game has so many little things that make you love it and probably will make you want to keep playing it over and over. In fact, once I beat the game and discover all the hidden secrets, I might just try it a few more times to see if I can beat it in quicker times. This game is very addicting and for a grade, gets a 9 out of 10.
STORY 8/10
The story has nothing to do with anything that ever happened in the show, but I would love it if all the content from the game could just be smooshed into a couple episodes because it fits in with the main ideas of the show and is fun. In the game, some creature starts stealing gems from the gnomes and by taking them away, the forest starts to die and dipper and Mabel volunteer to go on an epic quest to get the gems back. At the same time, Stan has dipper and Mabel taking treasure from all the places they explore so he can sell them. It's not a long story, but it's cool and for a grade, gets an 8 out of 10.
DEPTH 7
I would say that the game has a good amount of depth. It only has about 5 different levels for you to explore but they are built so that after you complete them, you need to get certain abilities later on in the game in order to go back and find hidden secrets, so you could go through each level 2 or 3 times. Im addition to getting the gems and treasure, there's a bunch of different side quests that you take on from the towns citizens whether its finding lyrics or books. You find them randomly throughout the levels and take a while to find. You can also get all sorts of upgrades to your weapons and stuff so the game has a lot to offer. For depth, this game is going to get a 7.
DIFFICULTY 2
The game is mostly easy because all you need to do is attack your way through enemies. You don't even get lives, just hearts and I'd you lose all your hearts or fall in a hole, you just start from like 10 steps back. Its not like there's a game over or anything, and losing hearts is hard, I never died from losing hearts, even when I had just 3 and you can keep upgrading your hearts until you have like 8. Overall, the game is so easy and gets a 2.
OVERALL 8/10
Overall the game is a blast and should be just as much fun whether you like the show or not. Its very clever in its design and mechanics and you're sure to like it. The only thing that could be a downside is the price if its a short game but for the most part it's worth it and I suggest you get it. Overall, the game is a lot of fun and for a general grade for a game, it's going to get an 8 out of 10, but if you are already a fan of the show and have been waiting in excitement for this game, then it can easily reach a 9 out of 10.
