Hello Vizzed Community, CANVgamer here to bring you some "insight" into our older generation of video gaming... So if you are a fan of the "Tony Hawk's Pro Skater" series, then I am sure this game may catch your attention once I am done explaining it out a bit.
When you look past all the "negative" parts of our older game systems and their games, you will then see the true beauty that each game had to offer us. Much like "Tony Hawk's Pro Skater", this game brings tricks, speed, and bails to the field; but the question behind all this is... "Should I play Cool Boarders or not?"
Graphics - 7/10
With standard block-like and somewhat pixilated graphics, it's really hard to determine if they are "reasonable" enough to be considered. Heck, even games like Super Mario Bros was a major hit in the past; so why should this be any different? Cool Boarders brings to the table a whole new concept of what it means to go snowboarding, and with the "basic" graphics to throw you off; you never fully know when you just might go head first into the nearest tree. Besides the fact that many of these older games had graphics that weren't as "smooth" or as "defined" as many of the newer games, does not change the fact that this was one of the top selling games for the Playstation. With somewhat realistic-like sounds and a unique gaming soundtrack, you may just end up attached to this game for life; and may I remind you, this game is the perfect way to "chill out".
Sound - 6/10
As I have said above, the audio soundtrack to this game brings a whole new concept to the field of play. Unlike "Tony Hawk's Pro Skater", this game does not include well known artists such as Green Day or even MC Hammer, but this soundtrack goes cold. With a more "soundscape" and "ambient" feel to it, you are drawn into the sensations of the sound of the snow itself, the wind, the cheering and the avalanches.
Addictiveness - 6/10
Both this game and "Tony Hawk's Pro Skater" have made it to the top list of a few gaming magazines here and there, but what is it about these games that makes players want to play. Understandably enough, both of these games has a well-rounded aspect of excitement in the world of free-based sports; or you can just say... both of these games bring the competition to the player. Whether you are attempting to do tricks, running away from a falling avalanche, or attempting to get first place in a race against the other snow boarders; there is just no telling what might happen next. You can play multiplayer with your friends to see who really is the fastest or who can do the best tricks, or just go head-to-head with the AI for the chance to win the gold.
Story - 1/10
With many games similar to this one (generally surrounding around EA and ESPN), there is no definite storyline to define how these games are played or structured. If anything, you are playing to win the gold, be the fastest, or have the best trickstyles.
Depth - 4/10
With each win and each time you progress through the game, you can unlock hidden characters, hidden boards, and hidden tracks. Along with a few minor cheats and codes here and there, there is so much to achieve in this game. Show off your board by doing a trick to impress your friends, or even get a faster character to beat the rest. Find hidden routes and dodge enormous snowballs rolling along the way, avoid becoming one with a tree, and even avoid faceplanting into the snow itself.
Difficulty - 8/10
Throughout many of our older games, the controls seem to "vary" from time to time; often giving us a more "limited" amount of options and movement designed for the game. The only reasoning behind why this game is so difficult (for me at least), all comes down to the controls. They are what I would consider to be rather "skiddish", and even a little "lagged"; but even so, with how much this game has to offer and with the right amount of friends... you may just end up playing this game for hours and hours on end.
