Borderlands 2, the game that made me not hate all shooters.   Chindogu
Borderlands 2, the game that made me not
hate all shooters. When I bought the original Borderlands it
was because it was a shooter that didn’t dwell on war, had nice graphics, and
was most importantly fifteen bucks. When I got home, installed it, and loaded
it up I expected nothing spectacular or particularly awesome, but I was wrong. I
immediately became a fan of the franchise and bought Borderlands
2
when I had the chance and boy was I not disappointed.

Graphics 9.0
The graphics of Borderlands 2 are
quite unique for a video game in the sense that they feel like the art of a
comic book. The attempt to make the game unrealistically drawn and at the same
time realistic enough to immerse the player succeeded quite well. The player
could find him/herself wandering around an area filled with snowcapped mountain
peaks and suddenly come upon something that almost resembles a shanty town were
bandits live. Of course the bandits are pissed that someone is disturbing their
shady little lives and will attempt to kill the player(s) if that happens. Now
we get to see what these bandits look like. Few of the bandit type enemies are
unrealistic in their models proportioning, except the goliaths for example, but
wear interesting costumes nonetheless. Most just wear a generic red cloth
around their head with a borderlands emblem on it and an inoffensive looking
jacket and pants, but some have truly comic bookish costumes: spiked helmets,
spiked shoulder pads, and of course spiked boots. Not once did I think an areas
or characters graphic looked out of place or poorly done, the art style was
consistent throughout the entire game. I rate the graphics for this game at a
9.0 since I found them thoroughly enjoying.

Sound 7.0

*A screaming Psycho Midget runs towards you as a Nomad bellows
commands and gunshots ring out* Ah the sound of an imminent battle. Feral
screams, deep throated taunts and insults, and even the ever welcome clinking,
banging, and sometimes stuttering gunshot make up that sound. Despite some of
the sounds having to be handmade or heavily edited to sound like what they
were, all of the sounds in the game were well recorded or crafted. Even the
grunting and footfalls you hear all the time without a
choice didn’t become grating at all. Well, maybe the Handsome Jack voice did
get a little annoying at times, but it was supposed to do that so still well
done. I’ll rate the sound at 7.0.
Addictive
8.0
What was the addictiveness of Borderlands 2?
Well, that really depends on if you like the humor provided by the developers. It’s
on the verge of being censored (just look at the name of one of the enemy
classes ‘Midget’) and is filled with cheap, innuendo filled, and downright rude
jokes that most of my generation find funny for some reason. The addictiveness
also depends on if you like shooters, which you must if you bought this game
like I did. Now, since I find both of these things entertaining, I rate this
games addictiveness at 8.0.

Story 8.0
The
story of Borderlands 2 is one of bad business, a powerful
business d*******g, and a handful of renegades who want to stop him and/or get
what he’s after when all is said and done. The games intro shows the four
default characters riding the train into Pandora when suddenly an assassination
attempt occurs. Hyperion robots come out from the other train cars and from
under the seats, the four characters ready their weapons and start fighting.
After all the robots have been destroyed the four make their way into another
of the train cars and discover something rather disturbing: it’s filled
entirely with dynamite and a mannequin of Handsome Jack, the villain. The
mannequin plays a pre-recorded while turning to face the doorway, blows up, and
destroys parts of the train. Now that’s just a taste of the wild, funny, and
sometimes disturbingly twisted story of Borderlands 2. I found the story enjoyable, thus, I rate it
at 8.0.

Depth 6.0
I found myself, at times,
not wanting to leave the world of Pandora and instead continue to kill, loot, and
listen to snarky dialogue. I could sit for hours and play this game and not
become bored, yet I could never lose myself in the game world like I can with
Skyrim. While sure to eat up a good chunk of your time if
you let it, you won’t become utterly lost in Borderlands 2
like some other games. However, since this game is a shooter that actually has
a story that keeps you coming back (unlike most shooters I might add),
characters that actually have a little depth to them, and eye-catching graphics
it is by no means a shallow game. I give depth a 6.0.

Difficulty
6.5
Borderlands 2 unlike most shooters uses a
leveling, skill tree, and a “baddass rank “system to help with balance issues.
When I started playing Borderlands 2 I was relatively new to
shooters having only played maybe three or four others, all of which tried to
capitalize on other aspects of the game such as horror or stealth, and was not
overly familiar with this genres gameplay. However I soon got the hang of it and was
enjoying the sarcastic, outright rude and innuendo filled jokes of
Borderlands 2. The humanoid enemy’s in this game all had a
pretty similar combat style: find, attack, get under cover, and repeat, yet
they all had minor differences that made them unique. Bandits simply did the
above with guns and grenades where Psycho’s did the above with bone saws, yes, Bone
saws
. Yes this is a minor difference, one is primarily mêlée and one is
primarily ranged, but this minor difference helps to add variety to the enemy’s
and helps to make prioritizing which enemy to kill first more important. This
variety in enemy design and AI adds subtle difficulty to the game while also increasing
immersion potential if executed properly. Overall, the game was difficult
enough to provide an enjoyable challenge yet not to hard or too easy to be unenjoyably.
One tip though, if it is possible to play the game online with your internet connection
I strongly suggest you do. Borderlands 2 was designed to be
played with a group of people, and is far more enjoyable when you have someone
to help you during that boss fight you didn’t properly prepare for. I’ll give
the difficulty a 6.5.
And so ends my second review. Tips
for future ones (although likely never to happen again) would be appreciates.

Seen as there is no review for this on ps3. I thought i would put my views your way.
First brought to this game by my friend mark1fordnut <--- vizzed member.
Borderlands was my first try at it.
Then decided to purchase the second one. Great gameplay. Adapted to the controls well. Due to the fact i played previous titles. Characters have hundreds of customisable parts. Head, skins. Name and skill tree.
To get the full depth of this game first time round best played in solo. After that. Feel free to hit them raid bosses with friends. As the guns are unlimited. As the box says, "bazillion just got bazillioner".
Would recommended this game to any one who likes 1st person shooters that is non-competitive. Great for playing with friends.

SECRETS

Badass Rank Farming

To build a high Badass Rank, and gain all the perks associated with it, create a pair of new characters in co-op mode and have player 1 beat player 2 in 50 duels. This gives 166 Badass Ranks. Save and quit, then start another new game, creating another new character for player 1 (don't bother messing with player 2's character). Fight another 50 duels, with player 1 winning them all for 166 more Badass Ranks. Repeat as desired, and delete the pile of unwanted characters when you're done.. If you set the controller configuration to something where you can just keep tapping the melee-attack button without ruining your aim at the other player, you can finish a duel-run like this in roughly 10 minutes. Thus, over the course of one hour, you can build up 996 Badass Ranks.

ENEMY/BOSS TIPS

Allowing secondary characters to reach level 20 easily. [Pre-Patch]

When you have a character reach Tiny Tina do all of her side missions until you make it to the final stage of her tea party. Here she wants you to lure Flesh-Stick to her little cove to join her tea party. Since you can fail this mission by killing him you can actually repeat that over n over for experience. On top of that if a second controller is available and you wish to make another character but don't want to level them up the normal way you can have that created person join your session and have them run all the way to Tiny Tina. If you keep them in front of her and your main character in front of where Flesh-Stick walks out you can kill him and re-accept the mission as fast as your trigger finger allows making anyone reach roughly 20-21 in a matter of minutes.

I used to love this game. Beat it 4 whole times. And I got to the hardest mode which if I remember is True Vault Hunter mode. This game is amazing the story is much better than the originals and has many twists which just make it better.
