In the tradition of Backyard Sports, an NHL game staring kid versions of your favorite skaters and the kids you have learned to love throughout all the Backyard Sports games are all here in "Backyard Hockey"

Quite simply, this game is NHL ice action in your own backyard

Here are some of the notable characters in the game:

Pablo Sanchez, the MVP of Backyard sports

Jaromir Jagr, the Czech sharpshooter

Reese Worthington, the defensive genius

Paul Kariya, the Anaheim Ducks Captain

Steve Yzerman, the man of the hour in Detroit

Mike Modano, the captain of the Dallas Stars

Joe Thornton, the big man from Boston (now San Jose)

Curtis Joseph, the best goalie never to win a Stanley Cup

and more of the kids you are familliar with throughout all the Backyard Sports Series

For a game like this to be ported on the GBA, it's looks challenging, but it's a whole lot of fun

Now, let's get to the game itself:

Graphics: Once again, GBA-level graphics, but it's still pleasing to the eye. 8/10

Sound: The commentary is non-existent, but the sound effects are good. 8/10

Gameplay: For a hockey game, it's more of the same, execpt for the power-ups (but only if they are activated in the settings). The shooting mechanics need a little work, and the Goalie AI makes it almost impossible to score 7/10

Addictiveness: Do I want to play this game again? Absolutely! The fantasy drafting and fast-paced gameplay makes me want to play it more often. 10/10

Depth: Not much, only Season mode. I think this is the only downside to playing this game, as you do not get the full hockey experience. 5/10

Story: It's pretty simple. You draft a team, defeat the other teams, and win the championship. It's not that hard, unless you have a bad draft. 6/10

Difficulty: It's not that hard playing defense, but it is playing offense. 8/10

50/7=7.1/10

Final thoughts:

Backyard Hockey is a very addictive game, but the issues in gameplay and lack of depth hurts its reputation as one of the best Game Boy Advance games on this website
