I've been trying to decide on a new game thread here for a while now (a few months anyway -- I'm indecisive), and I've finally decided to just ask you guys for an opinion.
Important instructions: Anyone can answer, but I especially want to hear from anyone who would likely partake in the thread. Now you'll notice that multivoting is available: this is because I want you to vote for every idea you like. However, if you vote for more than one, please post a list of which ones you like, in the order of most liked to least liked. Descr •Survival RP: This would be like Getting Out Alive Feel free to read it in it's entirety...just skip absolutely everything I wrote during the big bad reveal because I totally botched it by changing the main storyline at the last minute. xD Spoiler: The dad was supposed to be a crazy killer by night originally. This game would use revised gameplay and systems, based on what I learned from Getting Out Alive. The changes include: 1. Smaller map. GOA's map was massive. Initially it was meant to be very small and congested. The new survival RP would sport a map that's probably 1/3rd of GOA's map, possibly less. 2. Skill system revamping. GOA allowed for several skills, but none were ever used. The new survival RP would still have skills, but whether they would all be passive (always active) or not, and how they would work if they weren't all passive, I cannot say until I write the story for it. 3. More coherent story that will remain faithful to it's start. 4. Less complicated stat systems. This is as much for me as it is for you. GOA's stat systems were used and fully functional, but far too complex and opaque. 5. A higher sense of risk. The likelihood of dying in this one would be much higher, but it would be based more on your choices and abilities, and less on luck. This, like GOA, will also include leveling up. This will make your chances of survival greater. How it would work is a detail I'm still ironing out, but it won't be complex, I promise. •Mystery RP: This RP would center around mysterious killings, and would have you trying to find and stop the villain before you were killed. As with the Survival RP, it would be entirely possible for everyone to die and essentially give us a game over. You'll have a fair chance though: no being cheated, and no instadeaths. The systems are undetermined as of yet, but I've toyed with several ideas, including things such as player participation after death. •Forum RTS: Yes, that term is kind of impossible to live up to with Vizzed's rules on posting, but the basic idea is still there. Some details: 1. Resources. You'll have to gather resources. This would be done using action points. You'd receive a set amount of action points to start, and you would use these to complete actions. An example: User A has 3 action points. They choose to allocate 2 points to gathering stone, and 1 to farming. This adds to their stone resources received on the next day, as well as their good resources. And since 2 points were allocated to gathering stone, they would get more than they would had they allocated only 1 point to it. There would be more actions available than action points, so that you would have to think carefully about what to prioritize each day. 2. There would be PvP (player versus player) fighting, as well as PvE (Player versus Environment, or fighting with groups not controlled by players). Players and non-player controlled enemies could be permanently defeated. 3. Building and Crafting. And yes, mining, but not minecrafting. There would be a list of things that could be built or crafted, along with the resources needed. 4. Possibly alliances and hired services. Not sure about this one, it depends on how complex the rest of the systems are. I have to make sure we don't overload the computing system (my brain ). That's it for now. Thanks for voting! Is it just me, or the Forum RTS is a forum version of Minecraft? 300% better graphics if it is lol. I personally would be interested in the Mystery RP. As much as I love Agatha Christie's murder novels, there's no way I could hate this game. Would be interesting to see and discuss the systems, the player participation after death can be quite the twist under certain circumstances. I'd also like to suggest a new idea: Cluedo. There was this forum that organized a match with a special theme (two of the mods here where in that game with me), but it never got running and I doubt it started going after I lost access to said forum. This means that three of us could still be waiting for this game, so how about making it here? It can also have systems to toy around and it could even have a dedicated theme towards various subjects, so we should totally consider it. The downside is how to effectively convert a board game into a forum game and what about the map and the privacy of cards, but I'm sure we can all figure it out with some discussion. EX Palen : lol yeah, I submitted the story and idea to a friend a few months back and they said something similar to the IT thing. Honestly I'm unfamiliar with it since I don't think I've ever posted in that particular forum. So... I don't know, it might be similar and it might not be. I have no clue. lol
The RTS one is actually more like Great War Nations, and (I'm told) the old Age of Empires games. But yes, the graphics will be amazing compared to Minecraft. :V The RTS one is actually more like Great War Nations, and (I'm told) the old Age of Empires games. Is it me, or might the mystery one feel similar to Danganrompa, just with less gore and more family friendly killings? |

I'm all for the Survival RP (but also wouldn't mind the Mystery one either). Getting Out Alive was pretty much the only creative ( that word is a stretch considering my work XD ) writing I've done since High School lol. It really takes a compelling story along with the right genre for me to be interested in reading something, let alone actually contributing to the story myself, though Eirinn seems to have a knack for putting things together in just the right way lol. In summary, I'll participate for sure if it's Survival or Mystery, but the RTS thing I'd have to see and understand a little more before I can say I'm committed to it =P Getting Out Alive was pretty much the only creative ( that word is a stretch considering my work XD ) writing I've done since High School lol. AuroVee : lol I know what you mean, but that last bit struck me as odd: "more family friendly killings". Not making fun of you, it was a legitimate question, it just seemed humorous at first.
I'm unfamiliar with Danganronpa, so I can't say really. Based on what little I do know about it though, I'd say yes, it will share similarities. Mynamescox44 : You give me too much credit. You just enjoy subpar writing is all. lol If I'm honest I was really hoping that the Survival RP would win, but it doesn't look that way so far. Oh well, I do have a story and some mechanics already started for the mystery, so it's cool. I plan to do both eventually anyway. I'm unfamiliar with Danganronpa, so I can't say really. I wasn't partaking of the past one you did, but I like both Survival and Mystery. I would participate in this, how much wordage are you usually looking for per post? |

endings : Sorry for the late reply. Word count isn't too important, as long as the post isn't extremely short or vague.
Example: You wouldn't have to say "Alex stood motionless as he squinted his eyes, trying to make out the form on the other side of the dusty room. As it dawned on him who, or what, it was, the hair on the back of his neck stood on end and his heart began racing wildly. His mind screamed 'Run!' but every muscle in his body froze in defiance of the order." But I also would prefer more than "Alex saw [ So basically as long as you give the impression that you're actually playing the game and not just posting out of duty, and are utterly disinterested, then you're good. Ten words or a thousand, just be involved really. Example: You wouldn't have to say "Alex stood motionless as he squinted his eyes, trying to make out the form on the other side of the dusty room.
