Cemu has made a lot of progress since its start. Wii U games have been playable for months now, but get better with every update. The games that are working can be played at full speed, with good hardware, and can even be played in 4k resolution. Cemu can emulate the gamepad screen and the touch can be used with a mouse.

One of the only things holding cemu back is that it can't load all of the textures when starting the game. This means that you need to play through until it loads them all. The problem with this is that whenever a new texture is loaded cemu stutters for about a second. Once all of the textures are loaded you won't need to load them again so if you play through a level once, the next time there won't be any stutters.

I've only tried a few games, but I'm getting excellent performance with them. I'm using an Intel i5-4200H (2.8ghz dual core), an nvidia 860m, and 8gb of ram. I'll list the games that I tried and how well I can run them.

When I'm recording cemu slows down so the actual gameplay should be much faster. My recordings are done in 30fps and slow down gameplay. *Video Uploader is currently broken so i'll add more videos went its fixed*

Captain Toad Treasure Tracker, Super Mario 3D World, Mario Kart 8, and Pikmin 3 run perfectly. At 4k they run smoothly, but might slow down.

Super Smash Bros 4 runs well with cemu. I get about 55-60fps once the textures are loaded. Sound works almost perfectly too.

Kirby and the Rainbow Curse and Hyrule Warriors can't get past the main menu, but I wouldn't be surprised if they are fixed in a month or two.

It's certainly making better progress than Citra, which doesn't even have a good frame limiter yet.

Unfortunately to avoid stuttering, you're gonna need a pretty fast SSD instead of an HDD. Otherwise you'll stutter no matter how fast your graphics and cpu is.

yoshirulez! : Yeah I was kind of disappointed when I tried citra after trying cemu. There is a frame limiter now.
Once you load the textures once you won't have stutters. The only way you'll have them is if you load a new texture or upgrade your cemu version without transferring them. I'm sure an ssd would help, but its not required.

I've never been too fond of the Wii U, so I don't know if there are enough games out there that I'd like to try. It's good to hear that there's an ever improving emulator out there, though, four updates between October and December says a lot about their commitment.

It still haven't been two years since this emulator has been released, so there's many room for improvement and many things to figure out yet. Due to this, there's no rush to try it out, so I have enough time to focus on other emulators first.

It's better than i expected it to be. Weird thing, though. Super mario 3d world didn't work for me. After i chose a character all i got was a black screen. Sounds like I'm the only one, though.

I like this so I might just try it out since I never had the console for myself. I pretty much know what games to get if I was to go for this emulator. Thanks for making a thread about it.

A new cemu version dropped today so I'm going to update my original post. Games can now be upscaled and should use the gpu better to take some of the load off of the processor. Which means games should run faster and can be upscaled with no effect on performance.

I read an article about this Emulator working pretty well a few months back but haven't had the chance to download it and try it out yet. I'll be interested to see how it performs since I have a pretty beefy PC.

I would like to try out some Wii U games since I never wound up picking one up because I was waiting for a game like Zelda to come out. Now that it's announced on the Switch I probably won't be getting a wii u at all unless I see a good deal on a used unit.

So I stop checking on cemu's progress for a few months and now all of a sudden it can play some games properly wow.  The last time I checked on it, wind waker hd couldn't even load all the textures and splatoon could barely load menus.  Now they're considered playable.  Emulator devs will never cease to amaze me.

A new version came out Thursday so I updated my post. We got performance increases and some bug fixes. For me, the sound issue in smash was fixed and I'm getting higher fps in smash, mario kart, and pikmin 3 (captain toad and 3d world were already perfect).

Considering that games have started getting DLC, how will that be handled in Emulation? Does the DLC come with the emulated games and we just have to enable them, or do they have to be downloaded separately?

It depends on the system. With Cemu you need to download the dlc separately and then put in inside the cemu folder. I can help you out if you want.

I'd like to test out Cemu using a ROM of The Pinball Arcade, with the DLC from Seasons 1 to 3 included. A season is basically a group of Levels in the game.

Its pretty easy, but finding the game id might be a little confusing. Also I don't know what the Pinball Arcade's id is because I don't have the game.

I find it funny that this emulator got so good so quickly, it took off light years faster than Citra. I just wish my computer could handle some of the really big games like Breath of the Wild (even though I have the Switch version).
