I recorded a little bit of gameplay of an old, crappy game that didn't have any videos or anything on its page, and I wanted to edit it all together and upload it with the video uploader. Problem is, no matter what I change the settings to, the video becomes much blurrier than before and it seems to shrink a little bit, even though the resolution I rendered it in is the same as the resolution of the original video. Is this just a quirk with weird resolutions like 256 x 224, or is there something I'm doing horribly wrong that I can fix?

Yes, I'm using Windows Movie Maker. I haven't bought any editing software, and I didn't think I'd need to just to do basic editing like what I was trying to do here.

NovemberJoy : its windows movie problem, you made the resolution big and anything beyond 100% of its original radio will be blurry as you can see.

you can try another video editor, you are no longer limited to windows movie maker since there has been many free options.

mastergame : It's not the resolution. The original video was recorded in 256x224, which is the native resolution of the NES, and I rendered the video in the exact same resolution. By the way, I just tried using an old, pirated copy of Premiere Pro, and I got very similar results - the quality does not look anywhere near as good as the original video does. I also tried looking at the website that you provided, but most of the alternatives that were shown wouldn't really work too well for various reasons. I just wanted to put the videos together and edit out ten minutes of constant deaths...

NovemberJoy : then the only possible thing to do is redo the video shot because i never heard of it being blurry when editing, well without constant changes it won't. what did you record it with anyway? was it Viz recorder or another program?

There are some systems that record at strange resolutions for some unknown reason.
The solution seems to be to use an external recorder.

OBS is free and fairly easy to set up.
