Unhorrible title made at the request of a slinky that shall remain anonymous.

Yet another game I netted via PS+, and one that, despite looking forward to it once it hit the PS+ lineup, I wouldn't have paid for it. It sounded cute, but that's it, and I don't buy cute games because they're cute, I buy a game because it looks fun, and if it's cute then it's cute.

And Kung Fu Rabbit is a game that is certainly very cute, but don't let that deceive you: if you want to truly beat this game, you'll need plenty of patience and skill. And if you want to 100% this game by getting all of the carrots and beating all of the bonus levels (especially beating the bonus levels), then you're really going to need patience and skills. This is a game that's challenge is meant for core gamers, so come prepared.

Graphics: 5/10
Average.

The graphics are absolutely nothing special in any way, shape, or form. Still they aren't bad either.

I can't tell if the characters are hand drawn, or if they're just sprites made to look hand drawn, but they are still nice enough and fitting for the game, though that isn't to say they couldn't have been better, as I'm sure they could have. Again, they're nothing special at all, they just get the job done.

The levels look hand drawn as well, and the color usage isn't bad either. Much like the characters, the levels don't look bad, but they don't have anything remarkable about them to speak of either. They're just kind of there, and they do the job. They look nice enough though, and they're closer to the good side of average than the bad.

The rest of the graphics are about the same as the characters and levels: nice, but not "good". They're there and that's about it. The best part is easily how when you die and continue a level, you'll see a rabbit head icon with little "x" eyes to show where you died last time. It's nothing amazing by any means, but it's still cool and serves as a good reminder of what went wrong last time so you know what not to do the next time.

Highlights:
•The art is cute enough
•Dead rabbit heads. Always wanted to list that as a highlight.
•The morbid joke I just made

Sound: 5/10
Average.

The music is definitely what you would expect from a game about a Kung Fu expert(?), a bit stereotypical, but not in an offensive way. It's quality (for what it is) is good, but as with the graphics, it's nothing special at all.

The sound effects aren't bad, but they're also exceptionally simple. The only real complaint I have is that they're very low, or at least some of them are. It is cute to hear the tiny rabbit "hyah!" when you kill an enemy though, and that much brings the score up a tiny bit. However, the Ead's spitting sounds quickly take away that little bonus point.

Highlights:
•"hyah!"

Story: 4/10
Weak.

That, folks, is what we call pity points. This game's story is one solid trope, but that isn't the bad thing. No, the bad thing is that the story is so short and literally does nothing but say why the game exists.

The story, spoiler free and in a nutshell: the evil guy captured the bunnies, and you, the awesome skilled hero, must save them. The end.

There are two reasons (aside from pity) that I gave this a four instead of a lower score. First off, the game has both opening and closing cut scenes which is at least worth something.
Secondly the stories are told via comic strips, which is a nice touch, especially given the graphics. The whole game bears this comic-esque theme, so it works well.

Highlights:
•Story scenes shown in comic strip format

Depth: 5/10
Average.

There are 160 levels I believe, sixty normal and sixty hardcore story levels, and twenty normal and twenty hardcore bonus levels. This offers plenty to do, and the hardcore levels and bonus levels are often very challenging so you'll be playing for a good while if you want to clear it all.

The game does introduce new enemies and obstacles from time to time, but the gameplay is never changed any by them. It's sound enough gameplay, but that doesn't change how simple it is.

Then there are several single use items you can buy as well as permanent ability enhancements, a few of which prove to be useful, especially death from above (I hope I got that name right) which lets you defeat any enemy that can be landed on by, well, landing on them, instead of having to hit their weak spots. This is definitely a power you want to grab.

Highlights:
•140 levels to play
•Nice items and permanent boosts to unlock

Addictiveness: 6/10
Good.

This score may be deceiving, as I never plan to go back and play this again, but it did keep me coming back consistently until I managed to 100% it, minus the time I took off of playing it to recover from the difficulty of the harder levels. That was remedied largely by purchasing death from above, and the rest was just good ol' determination.

So while Kung Fu Rabbit likely won't keep you coming back past 100%, it does keep you feeling like you can beat that level that keeps besting you if you just play it a little more, or unlock that certain ability.

Highlights:
•The challenge can keep a completionist coming back for 100%

Difficulty: 7/10
Hard.

This game's difficulty is definitely high in certain spots, especially in the hardcore and bonus levels. In fact at one point I actually complained that the bonus levels felt like "Kaizo" levels. When literally both walls, the ceiling, and the floor are all made up of enemies spewing projectiles at you, and you die with one hit, the game has become very difficult indeed.

The basic levels can be a challenge at times, but nothing insurmountable, but in order to truly beat this game you must complete the hardcore levels as well, and as I said, those can be a real pain. Hardcore definitely means hardcore here. However, the difficulty, while high, and seemingly unfair at times, is not so bad that it reaches ridiculous levels. It's always doable with just a little more practice.

Highlights:
•A real challenge for even a hardcore gamer
•Plenty of enemies and replays guarantees lots of little rabbit "hyahs!". Seriously, I love that sound.

Overall: 5/10
Average.

And that score about sums this game up. It's nothing special in any way really, but I'm still glad that I played it and that I took the time to 100% it despite the challenge and frustration it sometimes caused.

Buy or no?
Nah, really I'd say pass on Kung Fu Rabbit unless you:
A. Are a puzzle platformer junkie, or
B. Find it on sale for $2 or less

Though I could understand as much as $5, but that's a real stretch. $2 or less is about right honestly. It's a solidly built game, but it's nothing that will really stand out for any reason, and it feels very, very....mobile. It's a decent gaming experience but no more than that. Decent.

Eirinn : Never heard of this game. It looks pretty good to play sadly I won't really play it since I don't have that console. Maybe I'll go onto youtube to see how the gameplay is. As usual wonderful review.

Eniitan : I think it's on Steam and probably mobile phones too. Still, I'm not sure I'd recommend trying it unless you just really want a puzzle platformer. It's interesting enough, but not exactly what I'd call good. Just okay.
