This remake.
It took what elements were good from the original Pokémon Red game on the Game Boy and made it better. I myself wasn't interested at Pokémon because of it's graphics. I saw this and it changed my mind.
Graphics: 8 The graphics are remade in 16-bit instead of 8-bit and in color. They look nice along with improved animations compared to the original Game Boy version. The Pokémon are in color and look better than the original version.
Sound: 8 The music in this version is improved and higher quality compared to the original, more pix-elated music. The sound effects are improved as well, with the Pokémon making higher quality sounds when fighting or interacted with.
Addictiveness: 6 Don't get me wrong, this game is fun, but compared to modern games these days, it looks more like indie game quality, with more Pokémon games out and Pokémon Go in the app store.
Story: 8 The story is that you are a 10 year old person who goes on an adventure starting with Professor Oak and choosing which one of the 3 Pokémon you start with, Charmander, Squirtle, or Bulbasaur. These Pokémon will stay with you on your quest to find all of the Pokémon and beat leaders of Pokémon Gyms "gotta catch 'em all".
Depth: 7 The game had a lot to do, with beating Gym Leaders, or doing side quests. It's a big Role-Playing Game that will have you on for hours trying to figure out which Pokémon are where on the map.
Difficulty: 8 The game can be hard and open-ended at time to the point where you don't know which Pokémon to use where. The Gym leaders can be tough to beat as well. You can play with other players using the Game Boy Advance link cable (or netplay if you are on vizzed) and chances are, they will beat you.
OVERALL: 9 It is a nice and solid remake of a good game on the Game Boy, but with updated graphics and new hardware being used for other effects. It is a good game that you will enjoy and still find today, although it is expensive, at around $30 used actually. So I would prefer that you stick to the online version for now if you do not already have it. If you do, then it's good.
