The Legend of Dragoon PS1 Review

Hi guys I'm going to do a review on this PS1 hidden gem game!

Story 9 out of 10: The story begins when you meet the main character called Dart. He is seen heading back home from a five year long journey to pursue a black monster who killed his parents, and destroyed his birth city called Neet. It was a sad thing since in the cut scene his father, mother and him managed to escape. The father went back to go and help anyone else who many seem to be alive. While the mother did the same. Leaving poor little dart on his own. So on the way back he is attacked by some sort of looking dragon being controlled by some people called Sandora a rebel in a civil war. Dart is saved by a mysterious female named Rose although soon they part ways. When he arrives at his hometown which is called Seles he discovers that it has been destroyed by Sandora. That a young lady who's name is Shana is also another main character and Dart’s childhood friend has been kidnapped taken away. Enraged of what has happened to Seles Dart sets out to rescue her on his own.

Graphics 7 out of 10: The graphics actually really reminds me of one game Final Fantasy 7, as soon as I saw I felt this was another final fantasy 7 game in a way, but very much different. I found it really uncanny how I got that at the first sight while playing the game. It also has some graphics from ff8 as well. How? If you have played those two games you would know instantly from seeing the differences.

Sound 7 out of 10: Here is a funny thing. People talk in this game like really, the main characters and most people. But, it won't always happen the talking will only come if an important drama cut scene was to happen. Also you get to hear in wild battle of how they attack too. I was shocked since I was pretty much sure that the game wasn't going to have people talking in it. Now for the soundtracks the game has a really, really amazing soundtracks if I was to compare it with the greats? It would me among the popular FF games such as FF7, FF8 and FF9. In the game which I find pretty rare it has 2 battle system music which was weird at first to hear. Since I am used to 1 battle music from an RPG game so that’s a slight twist there.

Addictiveness 9 out of 10: Its really addicting, it is. When I first played the game I couldn't stop to the point I didn't want to let go of the game when it came to bedtime. I loved how the story plot already drew me in as for the battles as well. I was like this game is just like FF7 if anything I would be playing this most of the time, and maybe repeat it as well. When I play The Legend of dragoon I have a lot, a lot of fun and I find it really enjoyable to play. Its not often I get addicted to something as that.

Difficulty 6 out of 10: The game starts off pretty easy in the beginning, and then gets harder as you push on further into the story mode. Boy, like the 3rd boss I think of the game was annoying. I almost got killed Dart was on 5hp I think so I got lucky. If you have played Final fantasy games then you would know what to expect from this games diffecuklty, that’s the best way I can explain it.

Depth 8 out of 10: The Legend of Dragoon has a different kind of gameplay that I have never experienced with other RPG games, and here is why. When you go and use the attack option from the battle menu. There will be blue squares which will appear on the screen one in the center, and one on the outer edge. The outer square will begin to shrink, and when it overlaps the inner part of the square you will need to press the x button quickly. With this battle system if you want an easier note its about the timing of the attack. Its all about the timing. If you get the timing right you will end up doing more serious damage to the enemy. For the main characters you will receive more upgraded attacks over the course of the game when you have leveled up enough. Since the old ones may not be able to do more of the damage. Not unless you level up that attack more for it to be powerful to deal attacks on foes.

However. The longer attacks you will get, will allow enemies have the opportunity to counter attack back on you. How will you know when this happens? It will show red, and when they do you will need to press the circle button at the right time to block any of their attacks. Its quite a little confusing to explain something that is a bit complex. If you was to play the game yourself you will see what I am trying to explain. The more you play the more you get used to the battle system.

Overall 9.3: I think its a real gem. Its really sad not a lot of people knew about this game. At the time the FF games on the PS1 got more attention so this game became like a hidden gem not to be known by a lot of people, but by some. The Legend Of Dragoon wasn't popular as FF PS1 games in its days. It is really worth playing I tell you, and the game wouldn't be a waste of your time.

Thank you for taking the time to read my review I hoped you enjoyed it and maybe caught a sudden interest for you to go and try out the game. I will be back with another review really soon. ^-^

This was an excellent review. I absolutely adored this game, but sadly never managed to finish it. I got to the last disc, and things started happening in life which pulled me away from it so long it just feels like I'd forget too much to try and go back to do so.

Anyways, you explained the battle system well, so don't worry about that too much. The combat is really one of the biggest things that made this game as unique as it was. God I remember struggling so much with the timing on my PSP when I first got the game lol ( from being so used to just mashing X on just about any other RPG in existence ). That, and the whole "Dragoon" aspect to it, but I won't spoil that for any one who hasn't actually played it

Glad to see some one took the time to give this game the praise and lime light it deserves. Great work
