It happened one day...You are playing a newer game, and you absolutely love it. Then IT appears, you know that one enemy, that one thing that jumps out at you and scares the living daylights out of you. Or sometimes, they slowly appear in the scenery behind the level. You can't reach them; they can't hurt you. But it's still creepy as all get out. I'm going to be listing some of the nightmarish entities that appear when you least expect it.  Enjoy...........

Now, honestly, I cannot list too many experiences as most of the games that i play are not inherently scary. But there is...the unexpected....

Probably the first time the game got a bit scarier than I was used to was in Pac Man world 2. I had already played Pac Man world 3 which featured about the creepiest ghosts you will ever see in a Pac Man game. That did not make me feel any fear. What did scare me a little was Pac Man World 2's Ghost Island. Now, I know what you are probably thinking (if you know the game) "Oh please, that was nothing!" But you have to understand, the most intense thing that I ever played was probably centipede for the ps. So Ghost Island's a couple levels up for me. I mean after going through the pond, the forest, the mountains, the volcano, and the sea, let's just throw in the creepy graveyard, where skeletons are walking everywhere, everything's dark, you hear eerie moans, hooting owls, and howling wolves. Overall it's not all that creepy, but for someone who wasn't used to it (though i should be I mean, the games about ghosts!) it was scary the first couple times.

Now that I think about it though, I do remember a couple times before this where something totally unexpected hit me. I was playing animaniacs, a fun cartoony game. I remember getting so scared on this game because of the vampire that kept jumping out at me that I practically ripped out the cartridge of the snes without shutting it off! Seems silly now...

One of my more recent scares involves metroid. Which one? Well, several of them actually. The first metroid game that I ever played was Zero Mission. (Boss game) Not knowing what to expect with this game, as I have heard little about metroid and never even saw it before. I flipped out on the first boss when whatever alien creature it was blocked off the escape tunnel with its long legs. Its screeches and biting attempts really threw me for a loop! I had never played anything like this before. It was completely different that hopping through the generally happy worlds of super mario galaxy! Metroid held many more suprises for me, like the first time I encountered a metroid. Man, those energy suckers just wouldn't leave me alone and would not die. How about the encounters with the fully powered Samus-X where it's running in the tunnel just below you! Scary! The scariest thing of this game? Nightmare! Even his name is scary! I eventually became a tougher gamer and encountered the ghostly chozo/phazon abominations in metroid prime. Not to mention all the jumpscares you can get out of Metroid other M. (Yeah, I know everyone hates that game. Personally, I thought it was awesome.) That room where you enter that has all the recreations of the space pirates was awesome! I'm like okay "they're dead, they're not going to attack. They're dead. All good. All cool." Finally, I convince myself that everything was okay, when this jerk of a space pirate jumps out at me. Now that, friends of Vizzed, is a jumpscare. You expect it; it doesn't happen. Convince yourself it's okay and boom!

I will say though, of all my jumpscares, creepy things and whatnot, nothing compares to the abomination that hides in Legend of Zelda Wind Waker. I don't even know what they are called, but they are horrifying. Just looking at them, not too bad right? Well just wait till you make a wrong step and get too close, they will jump out of their "sleep", scream this horrible sounding scream and grab hold of you and suck the life right out of you! What's worse than that is being stuck in a small room with these zombie freaks! You just cannot seem to get away from them!

Well, that's about all the scariness that I can think of that you might not expect. What are some of your dreaded video game moments?

I would have to say my most dreaded video game moments were either as a kid playing Resident Evil / Silent Hill, and Dead Space or The Evil Within as far as more modern titles go.

I was always really terrified of games like Resident Evil or Silent Hill as a kid, especially considering the fact I was so young when I first started playing them. I remember when me and my friend were playing the original RE for the first time ( since neither of us played it before playing it together ) when the dogs jumped through the windows in the one hall way, we both nearly crapped our pants lol. And in RE2, there's a certain door that when you open it, during the animation of you opening the door, instead of just going through, a handful of zombies appear and start to walk through the door, getting extremely close before it allows you to take control again. This literally made him throw the controller to the ground with out even pausing the game, and we both went running out of the room ha ha ha. We were only around 9 or 10 at the time, so looking back it's pretty funny we got as scared as we did

I think any one would agree with me the monsters in Silent Hill, at least the original few titles, were absolutely horrifying. I remember in one of the games, during a "dream" sequence ( or some thing like that ), you had to navigate through a pitch black tunnel-like area. Upon coming to the end, you found a little thing that looked like a baby, and then a whole horde of them appeared, all holding either knives or syringes ( can't remember which it was for sure ) and they all jumped on you stabbing you repeatedly with them lol. Scared the crap out of me when I was younger because of how creepy / evil those baby things looked XD

Dead Space probably has the most jump scares I've ever seen in a single game, and they some how manage to always come up when I was least expecting it. It doesn't help that the enemies in the game can run twice as fast as you ( and they run FAST ), so if one shows up with out you noticing, you can literally turn around to see a huge monster merely feet away sprinting at you like lightning lol. The game literally had me on the edge of my seat at all times, because I knew there was going to be some thing that would "jump scare" me at any given moment, and half of the times it happened, the enemy would appear behind you, or even one both in front and back.

As for The Evil Within, the game was amazing when it came to making you feel helpless. There were probably more than a dozen scenarios where what ever monster was chasing you or locked in the room with you was completely invulnerable to damage, so managing to out run them or sneak by undetected was your only means on survival. I think the most notable creature of the game was the spider-like lady with 4 or 6 arms and long black hair that covered her face. She would always appear out of a pool of blood, so when you found one, you knew she would appear, just not when she would appear lol. Her body was all elongated, and her hands / fingers more resembled claws than actual hands. She would crawl across the ground using all of her arms / legs to move, and it was terrifying, especially the way she would shriek and moan while coming at you. She was also invulnerable ( not really, but the amount of damage to defeat her was border line impossible to pull off ) to damage until her actual boss battle, and if she managed to grab you, it was an instant kill in one of the most brutal animations I've ever seen. Needless to say it doesn't scare me like it did as a kid, but if I was my younger self seeing this, I'd have nightmares for weeks on end ha ha.

So yeah, those are pretty much my most scary experiences in gaming. Hope I'm not leaving any thing out, because I do love a game that can scare me, regardless of how they go about doing so

Oh goodie a thread for me to post in! First I am going to start off with dead space. I love this game however I wouldn't play it myself and would be a scaredy cat. I watched djinn stream the game some years ago it was amazing so I followed up to when he played the second one, and the third game as well. I don't know how to describe but as amazing the game is its really scary I remember the last boss holy cow for that one. The next one would be RE games these are another among of amazing games to play. I remember playing the 4th one I was brave enough to play that one. And I did say I would try and play the other ones I haven't as of yet. The thing with these games is that they know how to jump scare you like you wouldn't expect it. Another one for me would be Parasite Eve I love the game and played it. Not sure how since its really scary, but the in depth of the game is really enjoyable so I think I didn't get scared as much when playing it. But I could be wrong as I progressed like more into the game and new wild enemies to face I got more scared. I said I have to keep on trying even the bosses looked so freakin scary.... cox raised another good one the evil within man that is really scary game to play......I remember watching someone play it one time, and it didn't look so pretty. @.@
