We all have been told not to play too much videogames, something that in the 21st century has expanded into not spending too much time on the computer or to detach ourselves from the phone. We're given a bland and vague reason, saying it hurts our eyesight, but not everybody is aware of the real truth as to WHY such damage is made.
The real truth is as follows: throughout our existence, our body adapts to our lifestyle, meaning that over the years we become slightly different than those with a different way of life. Eyes, however, are in constant adaptation, and what takes decades for other parts of our body, our brain works tirelessly to adapt our eyes to our lifestyle in a matter of hours or days. If we have a lifestyle of being too concentrated on a small range of vision, myopia starts appearing. Therefore, we must learn to take breaks not to rest our eyes, but to train some long range and peripheral vision to avoid the strike of myopia or at least make it as light as we can.
Of course, in modern society, getting rid of everything that has us focused on a small range of vision would be catastrophic, not to mention nearly impossible. However, over here, we have a saying: if you cannot defeat your enemy, ally with them. This is why Sony has embraced the VR, allying with its enemies, or also called detractors, to keep their business alive and ever expanding.
As you may know, VR focuses on glasses that project images. These images are projected long enough so as to not cause the strain of staring at a screen, which means health benefits for all of us. Not only that, but due to the 360º environment, we also move our eyes to all sides instead of having them still at a single point before us. This means that VR is actually helping us to overcome myopia, while actually letting us enjoy games without having to worry about our eyesight being damaged (though we will still have to deal with skeptical parents).
Due to this, Sony has totally nailed it. Without having the health issues against them, more people will embrace videogames played through VR, and being one of the first to hit the market will give them an incredible edge over latecomers. Once scientific studies get published confirming these benefits to our eyesight, nobody will question again if the VR is here to stay, because it's here to overhaul the videogame market.
