Considering the date, I though it would be appropriate to create a thread dedicated to the American Revolution. On July 4th, 1776 America declared it's independence from Great Britain, which was a result of the increasing skirmishes and tension between them.

Due to things such as the famous "taxation without representation," skirmishes between British troops and Colonial Militiamen, and other tensions caused by the Crown's rule led America to seek it's freedom from their reign. It was in the years leading up to the conflict that our founding fathers gave birth to the principles of having a right to life, liberty, trial by jury, and the freedom to pursue happiness. Not many realize this, but the war was actually in full swing before the Declaration of Independence was created and signed, since it took some time for the majority of colonists to favor the idea of independence. We were also given the Statue of Liberty by France as a gift for gaining said independence, as well as aided by them in the war, helping America secure it's victory.

So what are your thoughts on the American Revolution? What do you think life would be like if America had ended up losing the war? How much do you know about the battles that took place through out the war itself?

I think it was a very important and pivotal point in establishing America as. . . a nation like no other. Many other revolutions across the world only established another dictator in their place, but America installed a Constitution and gave people freedoms. Based upon the idea that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights.

I believe that sticking up for ourselves and not taking trash from King George was important for one reason: Our successful revolution stated that you COULD be different, and do things the right way and still succeed. That you don't have to be meek all of the time and put up with abusive authority, you can rebel. You can stand up for what's right, you can lone wolf it as long as you need too till other's come to your side, as France and the other colonies did. But always stand for what's right no matter the odds. Some people view America as a backwards country because of our love for money and unwillingness to just accept anyone into our arms. But being tough and hard has kept us safer and given us a position of reigning power over the globe as perhaps the strongest superpower. . . eventually.

That didn't happen for a very, very long time though. Particularly after World War II, we were pretty much Isolationist beforehand.

There is a strong feeling of defiance and moral accountability at America's core. We believed in Freedom. Freedom from religions persecution and hatred for carrying religious ideas, though the later is going down the drain right now.

I am glad that it happened the way that it did. It sent a strong message in world history and I believe that it happened because we stood for something. We didn't idly wait around. We didn't just submit to unfit authority, we demolished it. If King George wanted to keep America as part of his territory, he shouldn't have used us as his great money farm.

Now if only we could save this country from ourselves. . .

Dark knight of the blackened sun. I am Sword Legion, one of many. My mask is thick, and my armor is strong. All the more necessary in a world such as this. . .

Mynamescox44 : I won't go too deeply into the history but there is enough fascinating literature to show that we weren't aided by the French in the American Revolutionary War. They simply won it for us. They applied enough pressure in enough other places around the globe, plus they interdicted wartime shipping and troop supplies in the Atlantic, plus they provided enough troops to support us, they can legitimately claim responsibility and ownership of the total victory of that rebellion.

I'm an American, so I firmly believe Americans are like George Washington, in that we'll cross a frozen river at night on Christmas to kill you in your sleep. The revolution certainly set the tone for the next 250 years of awesome that is the United States.

I think all people, deep down, are either proud they're American or wish they were. That's our culture. We bring you Levi jeans, Coca-Cola, Hollywood movies, music, culture, war, and we're going to continue stomping *** for centuries to come.

I think had the colonials lost the war, they would have found other ways to separate. An ocean is too much to keep people united through the mercantile system. Again, it's too much to talk about but we would have found another way or waged another war.
