Parents always deny that they have a favorite child or that they like one of their children more than another. I've always found that hard to believe due to some events that happened near my birth (although I don't remember it, my parents bring it up a lot) and some events that happened when my brother was a baby. You can basically see it from everyday interaction and how they talk to you and your siblings. How about you? If you have siblings, do your parents tend to shower their affection to you or one of your siblings, or do they do a good job of spreading it evenly? (I apologize if this thread has already been made, and if it has please close it.)

My father seems to like my brother more, whereas I'm not sure I can say who my mother likes more. I actually believe having favorite children may not always be wrong. A child that is more selfless is more deserving of reward than one that is less so. That doesn't mean "playing" favorite, which is wrong. That is differentiated from the other by its unfair bias. It means giving to the one that gives.

Not really, at least not that I know of. I say that because I'm the only child, so it's hard to say whether if I had siblings there would be any favoritism. At the moment, I'm the one receiving all the attention (because who else are they gonna give it too... the cat?), but sometimes I wonder if my parents would show favoritism if I had siblings :p. I'm not exactly the best at doing chores << , but I am good at school B-)

I'm the favorite.

When my parents compare her to me (which they also did years ago) I point out that she's her own person, and she has the right to do things her own way. This includes achievements, and mistakes. If it's done within earshot, I try not to let it continue because I don't agree with it, and it hurts instead of helps.

My mom? No.
My dad? Most likely. I don't know nor do I care.

It's pretty obvious that my dad likes my brother better than me. Heck, he likes my 2 step-brothers more than me. My brother still sees my dad every other weekend. I haven't spoken to or seen my dad in 2 months ever since "that" incident happened.

I'm glad my mom doesn't show favoritism. I don't know what else to say about my mom, heh.

I get the impression that my mother prefers my brother and sister to me. We have a past of.... strong disagreement, I guess you could say. My dad doesn't have a favorite. That also has it's side effects like my little brother being able to do whatever he wants without any responsibility for his actions. Even when my dad gets coarse and using threats of being grounded, nothing really ever develops and nothing changes.

As a parent I can see why kids feel this way. I've got 3 kids and they are all different. I find certain ones easier to spend lots of time with compared to the others. It's not that I am intentionally favoring one over another but I get along better with certain ones. I'm also being vague on purpose

I imagine there are some parents who do it intentionally though. I can only guess at the reasons but I imagine it is true. I've seen it in my own life where it appears that my parents favor one kid over another. My siblings have made use of financial help from my parents a LOT more than I have had to. Does my lack of need deny me access to funds that I could also use just because I'm more responsible than my siblings? I would love a bit of extra money to spend on my family but instead that money goes to the siblings who are divorced or separated and can't meet all their obligations. That's not my fault but they get more time and money dedicated to them than I do.

Growing up I know that my parents did not have one favorite. The only thing that was hard to get used to in the start was when we found out that my little brother is autism and after that he got all the attention, but  its kind a ok since. So still we got all a like attention when growing up.

Oh, can I relate. My older brother was a god; everyone loved him dearly. He had awesome grades, male and female admirers, etc etc. I was a loser. Almost no one gave me respect, and my twin brother got the same treatment because we were associated (and twins). We can't even relate because Mohammed never got himself fired. It always happens to me though, and people are naturally afraid of my presence. My mom hated me as well, and favored my older brother immensely. His name is Mohammed. Even now, me and my brother are still greatly despised. Once, we both applied for a faraway job. We met this guy named Cameron, he hated us immediately. Our posture, our presence.... Mohammed almost got the job just standing still. It was quite embarrassing. My mom complained about us both, saying it was our fault. My brother cried. Mohammed was something, I was nothing.

Yep, mine do. And that favorite has never been me. My littlest brother is very, very clearly the favorite. He's showered in affection constantly, and always gets what he asks for. While I never got anything (and gave up on even bothering long ago), am constantly on a tight leash and treated like I am incapable of anything, and am a huge liar and a jerk for no reason. But as least earned the title of unfavorite when my sister got a job. I just hate, but at least am kind of glad, they make it so obvious who the favorite is.

My parents have never showed favoritism because my mom and dad both believe it's wrong.  It's very unfair to show bias towards a certain child. I also believe that favoritism is wrong. Me, my brother, and my sister were all treated equally. However, I do know someone who shows favoritism.

It actually depends at times if they do or don't. I can't say for mine. But there are parents out there who do for their children and kind of shun the other child that they have because one is always better than the other. When that happens the child as you know will kind of grown hate for his/her family. So its very important for parents to love all of their children as a whole. And not just one of their child which is the best. Who knows the other children can do better.

Nah, my parents really didn't show much favoritism when I was younger, of course me and my brother are 7 years apart, me being older, we were treated the same for the most part. The only thing is, my brother can be mouthy and was getting yelled at more then I was lol. Which that was his own fault. To this day he is still quite mouthy and he's an adult. Me and him don't get along all the time though, which I guess is typical with brothers.

I wouldn't say they ever had a "favorite," but they were quite a bit more lenient on me probably because I was the youngest one. Or maybe it's my older sisters are twins and always teamed up against me so they felt bad lol. Either way, they were extremely fair with everything, it was just I could get away with a lot more than my sisters could.

Though like geeo said, I strongly believe I'm the easiest one to get along with as well, so that probably helped too.

Oh yeah, My parents have a favourite child and it sure as hell isn't me. Which is sad seeing as I'm an only child.

I got single parent, my Mom , no she has never sided anyone, because am 'unique'.
