Picking the correct "Friend" in the game proved to be quite strategic. They vary in strength, range, and lag between projectiles. I found a few particularly useful for particular bosses. Speaking of which, the last phase of the last boss took a ridiculous amount of damage! I beat him with no lives left and consequently just avoided a heart attack.

As far as I know, the only benefit is "allow" you to collect other of these same items to get more 10k bonuses.

TRB_MetroidTeam : The power up that makes you smaller also gives you two different projectiles that shoot at the same time. One shoots strait and the other is a homing projectile. This is pretty useful in many situations but I prefer the playing cards with the wider range.

The game does benefit those who are willing to change weapons all the time, 10K per weapon change. I tried this a few runs but I did a lot worse when not choosing my weapon of choice. There are many more of the small Zonk power ups so that would be the way to go, for points, until mastering all of the weapon types.

I had not the intention of really compete, I only submitted the score of my first try, just for participate (and yet I got third place lol). But it's interesting to know there is a strategy applicable in this game, maybe I will play it in another occasion to fully enjoy it.
