So I wasn't originally planning on sharing this considering it's kind of personal but... Here goes.

Basically if you've known me for a while since back before I hit 1000 posts and I was still a trusted member, you probably know that there's been a lot of negative stuff going on in my family, my dad died last summer and my grandma died from stomach and lung cancer the year before that. My grandma's sister is currently basically waiting to die from lung cancer as well.

A few weeks ago my mom was at a doctors check up arranged by an old neighbour of ours who's a doctor and they found a tumor in her lungs, that's about 6mm it appears likely it's something that's been passed on through our family. Whether it'll just affect women or our whole family including me and my brothers is too early to say.

I've been mostly secretly carrying this for a while and trying to come to terms with the worst possibility. They didn't know what kind of tumor it was or where exactly it was located but they know it was near her lungs so they scheduled a later check up to find out more about it. A few days ago we finally found out the details apparently it's 8mm now whether that's them not being able to measure it exactly at first or it having grown we're not sure. It turns out that it is situated too close to her heart basically meaning that it's inoperable and there's not much else to do but monitor the situation. It's a downright crap situation but at the same time I'm glad we found this out early in stead of later on with her maybe falling sick out of nowhere.

So what this means is that my mom depending on how fast the tumor grows and if other tumors start appearing might not live for much longer, she basically runs the risk of falling very ill at any time and more or less become bed ridden and the way I understand it, it's very unlikely she'll live more than a couple of years at most at this point and that's if we're lucky.

This is a scary thought to me, not only because she's my mom but during basically all my time growing up she's the only family I've ever had that I've been close with and I've always lived with her alone, my dad and I have never gotten along due to various reasons so we were never really close, and while I have two older brothers I don't really see them too much and they're both living very busy lives and facing challenges of their own at the moment.

She's been calling around and essentially helping prepare so I won't be left defenseless when she becomes too sick to work. She will leave some money behind her if she passes thanks to our socialist government that should at least make it so I can survive and finish my studies. Through that and through some other aids from the government perhaps getting a part time job. At least economically I should be able to manage, But any time now it might fall to me alone to have to completely manage my own life, and I suppose this might sound kind of whine-y or silly to some but it's kind of scary thought knowing I'll probably soon be completely on my own and have next to no one to depend on and to come to for advice when I'm only 16 and I feel like I may still be lacking some life skills to be able to live independently.

I was hesitant to share this at first because I don't like divulging or talking about my personal life in general too much and I don't really want a bunch of people feeling sorry for me, but it's something that's been weighing on my mind. I'm hoping to spend some time with my mom while she's still relatively well and we're able to go on with life as normal, and carrying on doing well in school. I also want to try and prepare for the future if the worst comes to pass sooner rather than later however, letting you all know so I don't end up having to explain this if it causes complications for me later on. If any of you older more experienced members than me have any advice that would also be much appreciated.

Zlinqx : That is a very grim situation, I'm very sorry that you have to deal with that. It's good that you're planning on spending time with her, most people who have to deal with these sort of situations usually suffer from what I like to call "I didn't get a chance to" Syndrome.

I wish for the best, for you and your mother. Although you'll be on your own at a young age, don't be discouraged. You're a pretty smart guy, and there's plenty of people to support you while you're dealing with that.

In the end, your friends will come together to help you out. Of course, there's nothing we can do in a physical sense but at least you won't have next to no one to turn to for advice. A lot of us will make time to be patient with you and help you out, because that's what friends are for.

And in this rather dark and sad hour, your brothers might take a break from their busy lives to spend time with you and her, too. Surely they'll give you advice, and maybe even other kinds of support involving finances or shelter.

I'd have to say that the best advice I could give you, is that if you ever think "maybe I should, maybe I shouldn't", do it. Time is running out, and if you hesitate, at the end of the day you'll just have a pile of "what if's" next to your broken emotions and foggy memories.

I wish you luck. And remember, everyone on Vizzed is willing to lend an ear, a hand, or practically any other appendage. That includes me.

I know we haven't really talked much but I really, really do hope that you and your mother will stay strong through all this.

The only family I have is my mother, and I can't imagine my life without her. I really wish the best for you and her ant I hope that you will make sure to do the best of the time you have together. Two years ago I was diagnosed with cancer and I'm still under treatment. Even though it's not lung cancer I have some experience of what it's like to live with cancer.

Remember that life will always keep moving and there is no time to waste. During everything I've been through I've learned that everyday you're alive and happy is worth more that anything in the entire world. There will always come a new day with new opportunities to seize.

If you'd like to talk sometime about anything you can PM me.

This is...awful news. I'm really sorry that this is happening.

Try to savor every moment you have with your mom. It will be really hard, but try not to blame yourself for what you and her couldn't do. Try to be happy and enjoy the things the two of you can and did do together.

I really hope that there's something that can be done about this. I'll be praying for you, if that's okay. I really hope it won't come down to you living alone. Just know that everybody here is willing to lend an ear, or help in any way they can. Which may not seem like much. But know that we all care about you.

I wasn't allowed to live with my parents when I became 18, so the government provided me a basement suite with two caregivers upstairs until I hit 19. After that, my parents were allowed to help me out so I'm on my own right now and managing it with disability.

Anyway, my point is, I've done it, and you can do it. I believe in you.

I'm truly sorry about your mom though, hope she gets the best case scenario.

Such awful news to hear, man. I understand why you didn't want to share this, but it's better if you let it go off your chest.

My only suggestion is that you savor the moment. My maternal grandma is suffering from dementia, and knowing I'm the youngest grandchildren BY FAR didn't get me the chance to see her much to have fond memories of her, and even less with my maternal grandfather, who died even before I became 5. Make sure to live these months/years to their fullest, neither of you will regret it any bit.

I'm confident you can make it through. Not only are you the type to give up without a fight, you're smart enough to figure out how to deal with everything. And if your brothers were half as close to your mom than you are, they will surely come over to check up.

Best of luck, dude. If there's anything we can help you with, let us know ASAP. You'll never walk alone.

My mother has faced death a number of times, and she's always bounced back somehow. Maybe it's her determination to prepare us for the future. I like to believe she's clinging onto life until we're ready to face the future more fully. I believe she'll be around for a while. But we all leave this Earth at one time or another. Some of us leave sooner than others, while others have a work to do here. I believe that many of us are called to the other side because we have work to do there, too. If your mother leaves you, know that she'll be accomplishing good over on the other side, and you'll get to see her again.

Man....I am so sorry.I mean, I've lost all my grandparents.I never even knew my grandfathers, but I have no idea what losing a parent must be like.

I don't know what else to say except, I hope that everything turns out for the best and I wish you luck

Oh wow man. I'm really sorry to hear that you've had to go through all of this stuff. Honestly words can not express how badly I feel for you and how much respect I have for you trying to power through all of these really trying situations at such a young age.

I respect you even more for sharing it, as I'm sure it's a pretty hard thing to carry around.

Please let me know if there's anything you need at or or if we can help out in any way. The vizzed family is here for you!

I'm so sorry to hear about your family. I've never had anyone close to me with cancer, but if you'd like to talk to somebody I'm always here to listen. You just have to hope for the best. Life can be a b****, but you gotta hang in there and it seems like you're handling this extremely well so keep it up.

Zlinqx : I knowz that cancer doesn't care who it's victim is or what age they are and most hospitals don't have the expertise in operating on it in tricky areas though there are hospitals out there that deal strictly with cancer patients and I feelz that it is worth it to see if there is one in your state and if so getz her an appointment to see one of the doctors there to see if they might be able to help when the normal doctors can't our state of Florida has 2 kinds of cancer hospitals Saint Jude for the children with cancer and a cancer hospital for adults ... the name escapes my mind for the moment but I knowz we have one and I'm sure your state does too

if I was you I'd look up to see what hospitals that deal strictly with cancer are in your state and if you can get to it do the drive because everyone deserves to have the best fighting chance possible

It can be really hard to go through something like this when you're still so young, but I'm sure things will work out, just remember that everything that happens in some way makes you stronger.

My condolences to you and your family, Z. I'll be praying for your mom, as well as for you too. I hope it won't come sooner, than later. Don't lose you're confidence yet!

Make as many great memories as you can, my friend!

Wow so sorry to hear about this. I do not know what your religion is. But I am a Christian and I will pray for you, and your family. I offer you prayers and support if you need to talk i'm only a message away.

Cancer is a very nasty thing and its one thing I hate with a passion. Because I myself have lost several family members to cancer. Lung and Colon Cancer being the main two
