The Steam forum is dying. It's been here for almost two years and it's all but dead right now. There are three options that can be done with it. It can be sold or it can be changes into a new topic myself. But before that, the forum will go through an experimental rebuilding procedure for a while before that happens, and there will be A LOT of changes, here's a list of some of the changes that might come.

A new name.

A new topic. The forum was always just PC game based, but we might add more topics. One topic that will be added is mobile games which should compliment PC games as a topic and other topics might be considered as well.

New subforums. I don't mean new basic aubforums like help, market, and achievements. I mean a complete rebuilding. For instance, instead of just a greenligjt sub forum, there will be a subforum that houses that as well as other indie games and even kickstarter games and campaigns. There will be more fandom based subforums like what happened with the FNAF subforum. It worked, so with the right games, others might work as well, and an Undertale one is planned and maybe a specific MOBA subforum

There will also be a Devices subforum where you can talk about devices ranging from the gaming phones and tablets to the various steam machines, to PC specific controllers, and even virtual reality devices.

There will be more forum games and more contests as well as more ways to share your gaming experience, like achievements and badges, and screenshots more.

This is a place to discuss the things that were already discussed or to offer ideas for other subforums, topics, names, or anything in between, and of course, a good suggestion will award you with some Viz.

There was potential here but there never seemed to be any kind of events related to steam.
I don't think a name change and subforums are going to revive this forum...

Vanelan : We have tried a ton of events and stuff but nothing seemed to work because people weren't coming into the place in the first place. We tried TF2 competitions multiple times, screenshot competitions, badge and achievement competitions. The only thing that ever worked was the first posting competition and the review competition which was before PC games in the VGR was a thing so all reviews had to be posted here.

Yeah, it's hard for any of these rented forums to get any traction long term. They always wind up dying one way or another. No matter the subject matter.

I'm not quite sure that the subforum ideas are going to increase the activity a ton, but who knows. Worth a try I guess. Especially since you invested so much time and Viz on it.

Jordanv78 : One thing in going to do for the subforum is hire people to them, not like mods, but lets say I hire someone for the undertake subforum and they make a couple threads a month. That's so the forum isn't filled up with just threads by me, and with other people making more threads, it's possible that others might end up seeing the threads as well.

This test will only last for a few months though, I it doesn't work ill either sell it or make a new forum topic.

I'm not sure it should replace this, but I think a mafia forum is something a lot of people could get behind.  Mafia games are infrequent here, and having more games would give people a chance to participate in something they love doing more often.  People could pitch ideas to the mods, and the mods could run the games that they and these other people come up with.

If you would like I could work on getting plenty of steam keys to get the game hunters out there more active on the Steam forum.

Dondof: That would be awesome, keys for doing stuff or for competitions, or just to bring people in would help the place out a lot.

zanderlex : The moderators could have a stickied thread asking for ideas for games.  They may then flesh out these ideas, use them or reject them.  They would discuss among themselves which ideas to keep and which not to keep, in the interest of not having too many games going at once.  They might even introduce their own ideas in the thread, to be discussed among them.  One moderator will have the final say about which game gets accepted and which one does not.  An ideal number of games going at once would be 2-3, depending on their size.  The head moderator will put the other moderators in charge of the mafia games, one to make the thread and official posts, and the others to keep tabs on what's going on.  The one who makes the thread will usually be the one receiving PMs from the players of the game, in order to keep things simple.

I like the idea of the Secret Ballot Mafia I'm playing right now on Reddit.  All votes are PM'd instead of public, and any votes during the Day Round are revealed at the beginning of the Night Round.

There's also vanilla mafia, which basically boils down to townsfolk/cop, mafia/Godfather, and maybe a few other roles, such as a doctor and vigilante.

zanderlex : I'm not necessarily wanting this forum to shut down.  I'm not nearly as active as I used to be here, but I still love its concept.  I just put out that idea in case this forum does pass on to a new idea or person.  I do plan on posting here more soon.

suoernerd117: Cool, I hope you can post more. Have you seen some of the new stuff that has already been implemented? There's a couple new things already and I plan on unveiling the next new topic later tonight, and if I have enough time, another one after that, both of which might have some activity at least for a little while.
